  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of supplement of Zeolite mineral whose C.E.C. is high, on the nutrients content in the compost and changes of compost status during its stacking period in 1982. The results obtained were summarized as follows : 1. By the supplement of Zeolite, the decomposing temperature in the compost was tended to be continued higher rather than that of nonsupplemented plot. 2. The contents of $NH_4-N$, $P_2O_5$, and $SiO_2$ in the compost were conspicuously increased by the supplement of Zeolite, poultry manure and urea etc, during the stacking period. It was considered that the supplement of Zeolite was much effective on the prevention of the waste of nutrients in the compost because the nutrients content was shown much high along with the progress of decomposition. 3. It was accepted to be the effect of Zeolite on shortening the period of compost decomposition and the prevention of the waste of nutrients content because the C/N ratio of the compost plots to supplement with the mixture of poultry manure, urea and Zeolite were 21.7 - 25.0 at 30 days after stacking but its of non-Zeolite treated plots were 21.3 - 24.8 at 60 days after stacking. 4. The C/N ratio in the compost and decrease rate of compost volume at 90 days after stacking was found to be significantly negative correlation.

  • The purposes of this study are investigation of species of attached algae and the relation between attached algae and odor in tap water, Oscillatoria sp. and Mougeotia sp. were colonized at sedimentation basin in water treatment plant. Resulting from analysis, 3.7ppt of geosmin and dimethyl-disulfide with trace were detected in sample of Oscillatoria sp. only, 22 compounds were found in each of sample that had been incubated in room temperature for 5 days, 17 compounds were generated by algal decay. Decayed products were sulfur compounds of 10 species such as dimethyl-sulfide and phenol, p-cresol, indole and scatole. So, it is assumed that attached algae which tolerant to chlorine was the origin of odor in tap water. They usually formed big colonies. Colonies on the bottom were decayed because of anaerobic state. While decaying they were detached from colonies and so, odorous compounds are originated from this decayed algae.

  • The study ooramed has the meanngs as a goal, to examine a character and changes of function a "Maru" in the literatures historically. Methodically the literatures in the temporal oonsequences were selected, and the "Maru", whidl oomes into it, was interpreted in its historical oonnections. By the investigation I oould oome to the following results. First of all, those terms "Maru" and "Daechll1Q" were cfifferently used after the sizes and p1ares of the spaces concerned. I.e, the "Maru" in the center of the house is called "Daed1ung", With the Maru does not concern actually its p1are, Secondly, the functions of the spare "Maru" are characterized as follows. ·Space for the important ceremonies ·Spare for the passage and the switching of two or several spaces. ·Determination of the hierardly of spares in the whole house. ·Spare for the receipt. ·Spare for sleeping and for living. ·Spare for work, storage etc. Thirdly, the meanings of the "Maru" were dlanged as follows in the time. ·The term "Man! was used from the past to today without interrujjion. Arot.l1d 1930 the tenns "Yangsil" and "Geosil" for the tenn "Maru" were emerged. ·The different dlaraderistics for the space "Maru" are found in the cortemporary literatures only rare. This thing explains itself by the fad that the "Maru" becomes the inner-spare after 1900 by the restructuring of the dwelling spares.hing explains itself by the fad that the "Maru" becomes the inner-spare after 1900 by the restructuring of the dwelling spares.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the fermentation characteristics of cheonggukjang prepared with soybean germinated under light condition. The moisture content and pH of cheonggukjang made with soybean germinated under light condition (CGL) were higher than that of cheonggukjang made with non-germinated soybean (CNG). The color of CGL was darker than that of CNG and cheonggukjang made with soybean germinated under dark condition (CGD). The number of live bacteria in the CGL ($10.7{\pm}0.3\;\log\;CFU/g$) and CGD ($10.7{\pm}0.4\;\log\;CFU/g$) was higher than that of CNG ($9.7{\pm}0.4\;\log\;CFU/g$). The levels of isoflavone in CGL, CGD and CNG were 2,038.0, 1,993.6 and 1,747.0 ug/g, respectively. There were no significant differences in the appearance, aroma, taste and overall acceptability of the cheonggukjang made with different germination conditions. Therefore, it was expected that the cheonggukjang prepared with soybean germinated under light condition could be practically used as a new fermented food.

  • This study was conducted to develop HTHP ginseng (high temperature and high pressure ginseng) with improved antioxidative activity and phenolic acid composition by high temperature and high pressure process. The HTHP ginseng extract was analyzed for the total phenol content, DPPH radical scavenging activity and phenolic acid composition. The total phenol content was increased in HTHP ginseng (14.76 mg/g) compared to raw ginseng (3.59 mg/g) and red ginseng (3.93 mg/g). DPPH radical scavenging activities of HTHP ginseng, raw ginseng and red ginseng extracts were 4.8~78.4%, 1~47.4% and 1.8~56.5% at $1{\sim}100mg/m{\ell}$ concentration. Also ABTS radical scavenging activities of HTHP ginseng, raw ginseng and red ginseng extracts were 8.9~99.8%, 3.4~96% and 1.2~96.5% at $1{\sim}100mg/m{\ell}$ concentration. In HPLC analysis, amounts of measured phenolic acid of HTHP ginseng greatly increased than raw ginseng and red ginseng, but salicylic acid was not detected in HTHP ginseng. In addition, DPPH radical scavenging activity of phenolic acid from HTHP ginseng was increased. Consequently, we believe high temperature and high pressure process is better method than existing method to increase the bioactivity of ginseng.

  • To investigate the possible mechanism of ${\alpha}-spinasterol$ as a candidate of anti-cancer drug, I examined the effects of ${\alpha}-spinasterol$ on the apoptosis of U937 cells MTT assay, flow cytometric analysis, SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, Western blot analysis, and RT-PCR were performed. ${\alpha}-spinasterol$ treatment reduced the cell viablilty of U937 cells in a dose-dependent manner, which was associated with the induction of apoptotic cell death. ${\alpha}-spinasterol$ treatment also reduced the levels of Bcl-xL anti-apoptotic protein expression and increased the levels of caspase-3, p53, pro-apoptotic protein, in U937 cells. After treatment the level of Bcl-xL, anti-apoptotic gene expression was decreased and the level of ICE pro-apoptotic gene expression was increased. These findings suggest that ${\alpha}-spinasterol$ induced the apoptotic cell death via regulation of several growth regulatory gene products. The abbreviations used are: FBS, fetal bovine serum; PBS, phosphate buffered saline; PI, propidium iodide; OD, optical density; DiOC6, 3,3-dihexyloxa carbcyanine iodide; MTT, 3 [4-5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl] -2-diphenyltetrazolium bromide.

  • This paper was written for the purpose of seeking a radical answer to the reason why we feel an actuality while watching a digital animated film. In the world of digital animation, there exist surrealistic subjects and the objects, which have come been brought into life, play their own role there. Furthermore, objects, which do not exist anywhere in the real world, appear and are closely connected with each other by means of a time discourse. Their world seems to be identical to our world or not. This study defined an actuality of a digital animation world as an actuality of Imaginary reality, an actuality of existent object, an actuality of anonymous object and an actuality time discourse, and examined such actuality. A frame of concept for examining the actuality was borrowed from philosophical statements of phenomenology that understands the nature of an actuality through 'zu den Sachen selbst'. Philosophical statements cited for searching an actuality specifically were those already explained by E. Husserl, M. Heidegger, J.-P. Sartre, G. Bachelard, M. Merleau-Ponty, and P. Ricoeur, Methodologically, this study attempted to understand our existence and recognition of the world in a phenomenological point of view, apply this principle to the world of a digital animation, and subsequently discuss it with the provision of examples. The purpose for this study is to reconsider the fundamental moaning of a digital animated film and evaluate its value.

  • Biological nitrogen fixation is an important process for academic and industrial aspects. This review will briefly compare industrial and biological nitrogen fixation and cover the characteristics of biological nitrogen fixation studied in Azotobacter vinelandii. Various organisms can carry out biological nitrogen fixation and recently the researches on the reaction mechanism were concentrated on the free-living microorganism, A. vinelandii. Nitrogen fixation, which transforms atmospheric $N_2$ into ammonia, is chemically a reduction reaction requiring electron donation. Nitrogenase, the biological nitrgen fixer, accepts electrons from biological electron donors, and transfers them to the active site, FeMo-cofactor, through $Fe_4S_4$ cluster in Fe protein and P-cluster in MoFe protein. The electron transport and the proton transport are very important processes in the nitrogenase catalysis to understand its reaction mechanism, and the interactions between FeMo-cofactor and nitrogen molecule are at the center of biological nitrogen fixation mechanism. Spectroscopic studies including protein X-ray crystallography, EPR and $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$, biochemical approaches including substrate and inhibitor interactions as well as site-directed mutation study, and chemical approach to synthesize the FeMo-cofactor model compounds were used for biological nitrogen fixation study. Recent research results from these area were presented, and finally, a new nitrogenase reaction mechanism will be proposed based on the various research results.

  • We evaluated the change of quadriceps angle (QA) after tibial tuberosity transposition. Twenty-nine animals and 37 limbs of the total 62 case possibilities qualified for this study. The preoperative QA was $24.02{\pm}4.02$ in grade 2, $26.08{\pm}5.66$ in grade 3 and $30.25{\pm}7.41$ in grade 4. The postoperative QA was $21.25{\pm}3.24$ in grade 2, $19.16{\pm}3.92$ in grade 3 and $19.72{\pm}7.30$ in grade 4. The postoperative QA for all grades significantly decreased when compared with the preoperative QA (P < 0.05). However, the postoperative QA values were not within the normal range, although the dogs' prognosis remained good during the 4-month follow-up period. These results suggest that postoperative QA outside of the normal range may be allowed clinically.

  • This study was conducted to select the coagulant for konjac processing and to identify the antibacterial activity on foodborn pathogens by concentration of $Ca(OH)_2$. In rheological properties such as hardness, gumminess and chewiness, konjac jelly were increased by progressing coagulation regardless of coagulant. In mineral contents, the Ca content of konjac jelly made with $Ca(OH)_2$ was significantly higher than that of NaOH. On the contrary, the Na content of konjac jelly made with NaOH coagulant was significantly higher than that of $Ca(OH)_2$. There were no significant differences in the Mg and P contents according to coagulant. In sensory evaluation, there were no significant differences in the color, flavor, taste, texture and overall quality according to coagulant. The antimicrobial activities of Staphylococcus aureus, E. coli, Salmonella typhimurium were inhibited in proportion to the concentration of $Ca(OH)_2$. According to the manufacturing process of konjac jelly, the change in microorganism was not found after molding.
