A Pilot Study on the Muscle Activities in Step Input Test as an Indicator of the Vehicle Characteristics

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze 'response time', 'peak response time' and 'overshoot value' for each muscle by applying the EMG signal to the vehicle response in ISO 7401 and to quantify the response of the driver according to vehicle characteristics by comparing vehicle characteristics and muscle responses of the driver. Background: The Open-loop test defined in international standards ISO 7401 is the only method for evaluating the performance of the vehicle. However, this test was focused only on mechanical responses, not driver's ones. Method: One skilled male driver(22 yrs. experience) was participated in this experiment to measure muscle activities of the driver in transient state. Then the seven muscle signals were applied to calculate 'response time', 'peak response time', and 'overshoot value'. Results: In the analyses of the EMG data, the effects of vehicle type and muscle were statistically significant on the 'response time' and 'peak response time'. Also, the effects of vehicle type, muscle, and lateral acceleration level were statistically significant on the 'overshoot value' in this study. According to the analyses of the vehicle motion data, vehicle motion variable(LatAcc, Roll, YawVel) was statistically significant on the 'response time' and vehicle type, vehicle motion variable, and lateral acceleration level were statistically significant on the 'peak response time', respectively. Conclusion: In the analyses of the 'response time' and 'overshoot value', the data of muscle activities(EMGs) was better index that could evaluate the vehicle characteristic and performance than the data of vehicle motion. In case of peak response time, both EMG and vehicle motion data were good index. Application: The EMGs data from a driver might be applicable as index for evaluation of various vehicle performances based on this study.

  • This paper deals with the controller design problem having input filter. To reduce the excessive overshoot in the set-point response, a design method with filtered input is proposed here and we show that it can be reduce the overshoot to the specified value based on simple formula. Analytic results and computer simulation show that the contorller design method suggested in this paper is superior to the conventional solution of reducing large overshoot.

  • In this paper, proposed a method to improve of control characteristics for power facility using the adaptive sizing of fuzzy inference method. In the use of the controller based the fuzzy logic, a basic mamdani fuzzy controller is applied. However, when the maximum value and the minimum value have to taken, the fuzzy controller can not take a normal value because of formalized grouping form. In this paper, we combine the conventional methods with single valued sets to compensate for the disadvantage caused by the mamdani method control. Simulation results show that the proposed method has better overshoot and steady state arrival time than the conventional control method.

Two Modified Z-Source Inverter Topologies - Solutions to Start-Up Dc-Link Voltage Overshoot and Source Current Ripple

  • This paper proposes two modified Z-source inverter topologies, namely an embedded L-Z-source inverter (EL-ZSI) and a coupled inductor L-Z source inverter (CL-ZSI). The proposed topologies offer a high voltage gain with a reduced passive component count and reduction in source current ripple when compared to conventional ZSI topologies. Additionally, they prevent overshoot in the dc-link voltage by suppressing heavy inrush currents. This feature reduces the transition time to reach the peak value of the dc-link voltage, and reduces the risk of component failure and overrating due to the inrush current. EL-ZSI and CL-ZSI possess all of the inherent advantages of the conventional L-ZSI topology while eliminating its drawbacks. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed topologies, MATLAB/Simulink models and scaled down laboratory prototypes were constructed. Experiments were performed at a low shoot through duty ratio of 0.1 and a modulation index as high as 0.9 to obtain a peak dc-link voltage of 53 V. This paper demonstrates the superiority of the proposed topologies over conventional ZSI topologies through a detailed comparative analysis. Moreover, experimental results verify that the proposed topologies would be advantageous for renewable energy source applications since they provide voltage gain enhancement, inrush current, dc-link voltage overshoot suppression and a reduction of the peak to peak source current ripple.

속도 오버슈트 발생 시 제한 속도를 초과하지 않는 실속형 블레이드 풍력터빈의 속도제어기 설계 (Design of Speed Controller for Stall Blade Wind Turbine Complying with the Speed Limit During Speed Overshoot)

  • Blade efficiency decreases when the rotor speed is kept constant even though the wind speed is higher than the rated value. Therefore, a speed controller is used to regulate the rotor speed in the high-wind-speed region. In stall-blade wind turbine, the role of the speed controller is important because precise aerodynamic regulation is unavailable. In this study, an effective parameter design method of a PI speed controller is proposed to limit the speed overshoot of a type 4 wind turbine with stall blades even though wind gust occurs. The proposed method considers the efficiency characteristics of the stall blade and the mechanical inertia of the wind turbine rotor. It determines the bandwidth of the speed controller to comply with the speed limit during generator speed overshoot for the worst case of wind gust. The proposed method is verified through intensive simulations with a MATLAB/SIMULINK model and experimental results obtained using a 3 kW MG set of wind turbine simulator.

진화프로그래밍을 이용한 퍼지 신경망 지능 제어기 설계에 관한 연구 (A Study on design of Fuzzy neural network Intelligence controller using Evolution Programming)

  • At the on-line control method FLC(Fuzzy Logic Controller) is stronger to the disturbance than a classical controller and its overshoot of the initialized value is excellent. The fuzzy controller can do a proper control, though it doesn't know the mathematical model of the system or the parameter value. But to make the control rule of the fuzzy controller through an expert's experiance has a changes of the control system, the control rule is fixed, it can't adjust to the environment changes of the control system, the controller output value has a minute error and it can't convergence correctly to the desired value[1][2]. There are many ways to eliminate the minute error[3][4][5], but in this paper suggests EP-FNNIC(Fuzzy Neurla Network Intelligence Controller) intelligence controller which combines FLC with NN(Neural Network) and EP(Evolution Programming). The output characteristics of EP-FNNIC controller will be compared and analyzed with FLC. It will be showed that this EP-FN IC controller converge correctly to the desirable value without any error. The convergence speed, overshoot, rising time, error of steady state of controller of these two kinds also will be compared.

둔감탄약 시험의 측정불확도 산출 방안 연구 (A Study on Measurement Uncertainty of Insensitive Munitions Tests)

  • Purpose: This study proposes the main sources of uncertainty and uncertainty analysis of a measurement system of insensitive munitions tests. Methods: We established the mathematical model for calculating measurement uncertainty of insensitive munitions tests, conducted experiments for calculating uncertainties of dynamic sensitivity and overshoot value, and estimated the distributions of uncertainty factors. Results: The measurement uncertainty calculation methods are presented, which include experimental data processing methods for calculating uncertainties of dynamic sensitivity and overshoot value. Conclusion: The measurement of explosion pressure in insensitive munitions tests is an important issue to the reporting test results and classifying reaction types. The more efforts to ensure the reliability of the insensitive munitions tests results are required.

오버슈터 없는 PI 제어기의 Anti-Windup 기법 (Anti-Windup Strategy of PI Controller without Overshoot)

  • Most realistic control systems contain nonlinearities of some form. One nonlinearity commonly found in control systems is a saturating element. If integral control is applied to such a system to eliminate steady state error, an undesired side effect known as integrator windup may occur when lage setpoint changes are made. This effect leads to a characteristic step response with a large overshoot and a very high settling time. To avoid this situation, many different anti-windup strategies have been suggested. But existing strategies remain over shoot and high settling time. This paper proposes a new anti-windup strategy for PI speed controllers. When the speed control system is changed P controller to PI controller. Integrator has an appropriate initial value. This value results over shoot and high settling time. The SIMULINK/MATLAB-based comparative simulation results and experiment results of speed controller have shown its superior control performance to that of a proposed anti-windup speed controller.

Steady-State Integral Proportional Integral Controller for PI Motor Speed Controllers

  • The output of the controller is said to exceed the input limits of the plant being controlled when a control system operates in a non-linear region. This process is called the windup phenomenon. The windup phenomenon is not preferable in the control system because it leads to performance degradation, such as overshoot and system instability. Many anti-windup strategies involve switching, where the integral component differently operates between the linear and the non-linear states. The range of state for the non-overshoot performance is better illustrated by the boundary integral error plane than the proportional-integral (PI) plane in windup inspection. This study proposes a PI controller with a separate closed-loop integral controller and reference value set with respect to the input command and external torque. The PI controller is compared with existing conventional proportional integral, conditional integration, tracking back calculation, and integral state prediction schemes by using ScicosLab simulations. The controller is also experimentally verified on a direct current motor under no-load and loading conditions. The proposed controller shows a promising potential with its ability to eliminate overshoot with short settling time using the decoupling mode in both conditions.

  • 퍼지 제어기(FLC)는 고전적인 제어기 보다 외란에 강하고 초기치에 대한 과도응답도 우수할 뿐만 아니라 시스템의 수학적 모델과 파라메터 값을 알지 못하더라도 적절한 제어가 가능하다. 그러나 퍼지 제어기의 제어 규칙 생성은 전문가의 경험과 일단 결정된 제어 규칙은 고정됨으로 인해 제어 시스템의 환경변화에 적응할 수 없는 한계성이 있다. 또한 제어기의 출력값은 미세한 오차를 가지곤 있어 정확한 목표 값에 수렴할 수 없다. 이러한 미세한 오차를 없애기 위하여 여러 가지 방법이 연구되고 있는데, 본 논문에서는 FLC에 NN(Neural Network)과 GA(Genetic Algorithm)를 결합한 GA-FNNIC(유전알고리즘-퍼지 신경망 지능 제어기 : Genetic Algorithm - Fuzzy Neural network Intelligence Controller)를 제안한다. 제안된 GA-FNNIC와 FLC 제어기 간의 출력 특성, 수렴속도, 과도특성과 상승시간에 대해 비교 분석하고, 최종적으로 본 GA-FNNIC가 오차없이 목표치에 정확하게 수렴하는 것을 보인다.
