Improvement of Ground Handling Service Quality through Overseas Cases (해외 사례를 통한 지상조업 품질 개선방안 연구)

  • There is concern about the increased risk of accidents from manual investments due to ground handling service operators, aging equipment and manpower shortages. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the quality of ground treatment services and safety management at the airport. Therefore, this study analyzed the domestic and overseas ground operation status and the license handling procedure of aircraft handling business. In addition, a case study on the evaluation system of international organizations examined the applicability of the certification body to the Korean situation. It is practical in that it provides policy implications for improving the quality of groundwork not covered in previous studies. This is expected to improve the constitution, improve quality, improve airport operations, and operate safely.

Sources of Infection Among Confirmed Cases of COVID-19 in Jeju Province, Korea

  • Objectives: Jeju Province in Korea reported 627 coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases between January 20, 2020, and March 31, 2021. This study analyzed the sources of infection among confirmed cases in Jeju Province, a self-governed island. Methods: The sources of infection were broadly categorized as follows: (1) infections from overseas (confirmed patients who reported travel overseas or contact with overseas travelers); (2) infections from outside Jeju Province (confirmed patients who had visited other provinces or had contact with individuals who had traveled to other provinces in Korea); and (3) unknown sources of infection (confirmed patients who were infected following contact with an infected person whose source of infection was unknown). The chi-square test was used to analyze the differences in the distributions of related variables for each source of infection. Results: Of the 627 confirmed cases, 38 (6.1%) were infections from overseas sources, 199 (31.7%) were from outside of Jeju Province, and 390 (62.2%) were from unknown sources. Jeju Province had no cases with an unknown source of infection during the first and second waves of the nationwide outbreak. Conclusions: Infections from overseas sources could be blocked from spreading to local communities in Jeju Province by conducting screening at the airport, along with the preemptive suspension of visa-free entry. In addition, considering the scale of the nationwide outbreak, measures must be established to delay outbreaks from unknown sources of infection caused by sources outside Jeju Province.

Variation of Friction Coefficient of Airport Runway Surface by Rubber Deposits (고무 퇴적물에 의한 공항 활주로 표면 마찰계수 변화)

  • In this paper, overseas criteria and research results were reviewed to develop a rational criterion proper to domestic airport runways on measurement of friction coefficient and removal of rubber deposit. The friction coefficients of the runways of the Incheon International Airport were measured by the ASFT(Airport Surface Friction Tester) from August 2007 to July 2009 and the data at intensively landed points were analyzed. Variation of the friction coefficient due to accumulation and removal of tire rubber was analyzed and seasonal influence on the variation were investigated by pavement types. The friction coefficient steadily decreased over a long term despite periodical removal of the rubber deposits. The variation of the friction coefficient in summer was larger than other seasons and asphalt pavement was more sensitive to the seasonal influence than concrete pavement. The friction coefficient of the asphalt pavement with macro texture was even larger than that of early age concrete pavement with micro texture. The variation of the friction coefficient of the asphalt pavement due to the deposit and removal of the tire rubber was also larger than that of the concrete pavement.

  • According to the statistics of the Ministry of Land Transport and Transportation in 2018, the average annual average number of air traffic users for has increased by 5.07% for domestic flights and 8.84% for international flights. Korea is facing a steady rise in demand from foreign tourists due to the Korean Wave. At the same time, a new lifestyle that values the quality of life of individuals is taking root, along with the emergence of LCC, and Korean tourists' overseas tours are also increasing, so improvement and expansion of domestic airport passenger terminals is urgently needed. it is important to develop a structured airport infrastructure by making efficient and accurate forecasts of aviation demand. in this study, based on the Big Data, long-term domestic and international demand forecasts for urban airports were conducted.. Domestic flights will see a decrease in the number of airport passengers after 2028, and international flights will continue to increase. It is imperative to improve and expand passenger terminals at domestic airports.

  • Ever since the permission of overseas travel by the Chinese government in 1983, the Chinese outbound travel market has been growing at an expanding rate. The Republic of Korea has been able to reap great benefits from this growth, and this has been noticeable especially in the aviation market. Chinese passengers count for 23.9% of the total passengers at Incheon International Airport (IIA), and it is no doubt Chinese passengers will remain important customers for IIA. Given the fact that China has such a huge territory and possesses a population of more than 1.3 billion, there rises the need to divide China into smaller regions. By doing so, the different thoughts Chinese passengers have, and the actions they show in terms of travel and airport service consumption according to differing regions can be figured out. With knowledge of the differences, IIA can provide different services to fit Chinese passengers from differing regions, hence increasing the total consumer value and satisfaction rate of IIA. This study has divided China into 5 different regions according to official regional recognition of China, and difference of economical, social factors, etc... With the results obtained from this study, different strategies can be implemented for the 5 regions.

  • Enterprise Risk Management(ERM) is aiming at the establishment of the risk management process to prevent and cope with risks in advance and is composed of Risk Identification, Risk Assessment, Risk Response and Monitoring. It is feedback through the Risk Re-identification. This study has analysed a sample of the risk management system of an airport operating corporation, for this purpose, relevant documents and examples of overseas airports have been reviewed. It has found that corporations establishing ERM have been performing identical procedures such as the process of Identification, Assessment, Effective Reporting, Communication and monitoring and so on. The A corporation has established the process for risk management and crisis management and organized for its organization and system. The risk management has the same process such as above. In this process, when the symptoms of critical crisis have been recognized, it has been transformed into crisis management system, through which, corporate-wide response has been conducted in the process of crisis status analysis, response and follow-up management. This study expects to contribute to systematic foundation for future business continuity on the basis of risks and response procedures acknowledged by this study.

  • The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the relationship between the results of the analysis of the overseas railroad station buildings, which was conducted using the factors of environmental cognition for the purpose of designing an interior environment for the Incheon International Airport Railroad station that will be newly constructed, and the plan that could be applied to the design of interior environment for the airport railroad station. The station with a complex interior space layout and relatively larger space tends to be difficult to predict or forecast passenger's needs or recognition element in approaching stage of intoner environment design since the human's biological memory system is greatly affected by such factors. Cognitive approach at empirical standpoint would possibly create the design, of which elements will Implement the functions of their own as such approach enables necessary information to be structured in a systematical way and manner In implementing interior environment design for such stations to be built for the first time in Korea, behavioral approach based on systematic theory proved to be very crucial. Under such a background, the study was aimed at extracting the assessment elements for interior environment design, then setting the frame of cognitive approach to eventually propose the guideline in approaching to interior environment design.

Regional Structure of International Physical Distribution through Clearance Depot (통관거점을 이용한 국제물류의 지역구조)

  • This study is to clarify regional structure and connection of international physical distribution through clearance depot of Cheongju customs of inland location. The trade of clearance depot of Cheongju customs industrial characteristics reflects of territorial hinterland. As origins and destinations of freight as exports and imports region, territories of Cheongju customs trade mainly with Japan, China, and USA. Origin and destination of freight of Cheongju customs territory are hinterland and foreland of Incheon International Airport and Busan port. In case of export, foreland of Busan port is board, and in case of import, the hinterlands of Incheon International Airport and Busan port are similar. Clearance depot of inland-located Cheongju is construct by the advantages of rapidness and inexpensive cost. And the kind of freight and system of physical distribution of each enterprise show different characteristics. For each export and import freight, each shipper corporation has its own physical distribution system, and structure of international distribution is classified into export pattern of bonded industry and bonded warehouse. Again the patterns of bonded warehouse are distinguished free on board price system with division of labor in base of production in overseas, free on board price system, and cost-insurance-freight with division of labor in base of production in overseas. These Phenomena are caused by transaction between headquarter and its overseas corporation, initiative freight handling of export corporation, choice of inexpensive cost, and international convention.

A Study on the Approval Process and Criteria for Operation of Ground-Based Augmentation System (GBAS) in Korea (GBAS 국내 운용을 위한 승인 절차 및 기준 연구)

  • Ground-Based Augmentation System (GBAS) is providing precision approach and landing service with aircraft around airport. FAA granted System Design Approval (SDA) of SLS-4000 to Honeywell as the first GBAS category I system on September 2009. Since then, according to their own kind of approval process including System Design Approval, Facility Approval and Operational Approval, USA, Germany, Spain and Australia have approved GBAS category I system which are installed in some airports in order to provide commercial GBAS service. Recently, KARI has also installed GBAS category I system into Gimpo international airport to establish operational technology of GBAS domestically and to validate effectiveness of GBAS system in Korea. This paper introduces overseas trends and activities regarding approval process of GBAS system and presents approval process and criteria appropriate for future commercial operation of GBAS in Korea.
