Suggestion of Test Apparatus for Reliability Evaluation of a Rotary Compressor with a Short-Cycle (로터리 압축기용 Short-Cycle 신뢰성 시험장치 제안)

  • In this paper, a test apparatus for reliability evaluation of a rotary compressor has been suggested with a short-cycle concept. $CO_2$ refrigerant is adopted for this cycle to avoid phase change during cycle operation. Evaporator is not necessary in short-cycle. Utilizing a short-cycle, the test apparatus was built on the purpose of evaluating the reliability of each rotary compressor on the conveyer belt of the factory. The primary validation of the test apparatus is discussed by analyzing the experimental heat balance data. Additional validation was performed through the overload continuous operation test where the wear rate of the $CO_2$ short-cycle was found to similar to that of the R22 normal-cycle. The reliability evaluation test apparatus with a short-cycle in present investigation was found simple and efficient in the view of reducing sample numbers, costs, and test time in analyzing the reliability of rotary compressors.

Hospital Workers' Experience with Hospital Evaluation Program: A Focus Group Study (의료기관 평가에 관한 병원 종사자들의 경험: 포커스 그룹 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of the study was to understand and describe the hospital workers' experience related to the hospital evaluation program implemented in Korea between 2004 and 2009. Methods: During 2010, data were collected using focus group interviews. Four focus group interviews were held with a total of 28 hospital workers participating. All interviews were recorded and transcribed as they were spoken, and data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Results: Nine themes emerged from the analysis: 1) Positive change in the necessity of the evaluation; 2) Improvement in the hospital system, facilities, and human resources; 3) Unity through cooperation among departments; 4) Nursing work overload; 5) Lack of physicians' awareness and responsibilities; 6) Unfair and unrealistic evaluation items; 7) Lack of credibility of the outcome; 8) Shifting responsibility for negative outcomes to the workers; 9) Lack of pragmatic utility. Conclusion: The results of the study demonstrate that the hospital evaluation program played a key role in improving some work environments and communication among departments. At the same time, they show various negative themes resulting from the context of very authoritarian hospital systems and a connection-oriented society in Korea.

TAILWIND: Mobility information based Routing for Delay Tolerant Network (이동 방향 정보를 이용한 DTN 라우팅: TAILWIND)

  • In base station based networks, traffic overload at the base station is inevitable. Peer-to-peer DTN which disperses the traffic overhead to each node can relieve the traffic overload at the base station. To increase the message delivery ratio and reduce the message overhead, we present novel routing using mobility information which can be obtained from each node, unlike the existing flooding based routings. In the proposed routing scheme, the routing decision metric, which is defined based on the node mobility information, is computed by using the expected distance between each node to the destination. The message is copied to other nodes that have lower expected distance to the destination than the value for the node willing to copy the message. We conducted simulations by using both a random mobility model and a real mobility trace to compare the performance of the proposed routing scheme to the existing routing scheme that does not utilize the mobility information. The performance evaluation showed the proposed routing successfully delivers messages with 10% to 30% less copies compared to previously proposed routing schemes.

  • Treatment for heart failure is directed to reduce atrial volume overload by diuretic agents, to lessen ventricular pressure overload by vasodilatory agents and to increase myocardial performance through inotropic agents. Of those cardiac therapeutics, diuretic agents are the most important to control heart failure in dogs, although long-term use often causes detrimental side-effects such as acute renal failure and electrolyte abnormalities. Thus, this study was designed to find a new diuretic agent from medicinal herbs which has better diuretic effect and less unfavorable complications in dogs. In a preliminary study performed with 5 normal healthy dogs, the extract from Akebia quinata Decaisne showed mild to moderate diuretic effect (0.3-0.5 potency of furosemide 2 mg/kg) and minimal changes in serum chemistry and electrolyte. Although the study population was not large enough and study period was not sufficient enough, this study found a good alternative diuretic agent which can replace or reduce the use of furosemide in dogs with heart failure.

A Study on Working conditions and Characteristics of Dental Technicians (치과기공사의 근무 환경 및 업무특성 평가에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to improve the working conditions of dental technicians, through survey for working conditions related to perform one's duty, the extent of personal exposure to substances hazardous and complaint rate and factor of job stress and subjective symptom on musculoskeletal disorders. Methods: Using four types of structured questionnaires: social and demographic factor; the actual conditions of working space; working conditions; and characteristics of dental technicians, respondents filled in the questionnaires and the results were analyzed statistically. Results: The evaluation of comfort in working place found that satisfaction level on indoor noise was the lowest with 2.6 on a five-point scale and privacy space followed 2.8 point. In reasons for dissatisfaction with job, over workload ranked the highest by 25.4% and role overload had the highest by 39.5% in job stress factors. Based on the results, we could draw conclusion that dental technicians were unsatisfied with role overload and heavy workload a day. In reasons for musculoskeletal symptom prevalence, long-patient work was the highest by 24.1%. It was thought to cause dental technicians need deep procession and long-patient work due to the nature of their job. Conclusion: In conclusion, noise reduction and privacy space are required to improve job efficiency of dental technicians. In addition; we need to think of ways to increase the job satisfaction with adequate rest while deep procession and long-patient working.

Evaluation of Paradoxical Septal Motion Following Cardiac Surgery with Gated Cardiac Blood Pool Scan (방사성동위원소 심혈관촬영술을 이용한 개심술 전후의 역행성 심실중격운동에 관한 연구)

  • The development of paradoxical interventricular septal motion is a common consequence of cardiopulmonary bypass operation. The reason for this postoperative abnormal septal motion is not clear. 41 patients were studied preoperatively and postoperatively with radionuclide blood pool scan to evaluate the frequency of development of paradoxical septal motion with right ventricular volume overload before surgery and the frequency of development of paradoxical septal motion after cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass, and to evaluate the change of EF related to the development of paradoxical septal motion after cardiac surgery. The results were as follows; 1) 7 of 41 patients with right ventricular volume overload(that is 17%) showed paradoxical septal motion before surgery. But 13 of 34 patients(that is 42%) had paradoxical septal motion after cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass. So open heart surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass related the development of paradoxical septal motion after surgery. 2) EF significantly decreased in patients who developed paradoxical septal motion after surgery, whereas the EF did not change in the patients who retained normal interventricular septal motion after surgery. So paradoxical septal motion usually reflected some diminution of left ventricular function, immediately after cardiac surgery.

A Design of Mobile Web Server Framework for SOAP Transaction and Performance Enhancement in Web2.0 (웹2.0에서 SOAP 처리와 성능 향상을 위한 모바일 웹 서버 프레임워크의 설계)

  • Existing web server lowers the whole capacity of system because of the problem on the processing load of server by closing connection increasing code handshake operation, and remarkable decrease of server capacity if it is the state of overload. Also, there occurs disadvantages of increasing connection tine about client's request and response time because handling of client's multi-requests is not smooth because of thread block and it requests a lot of time and resources for revitalization of thread. Therefore, this paper proposes the extended web server which provides the technique for delay handling and improves the overload of server for better system capacity, communication support, and the unification which is the advantage of web service. And it evaluates the existing system(implemented at Tomcat 5.5) and the proposed mobile web server architecture. The extended server architecture provides excellent exchange condition for system capacity and evaluates improved web server architecture which combines multi-thread with thread pool. The proposed web service architecture in this paper got the better result of improved capacity benefit than the evaluation result of original Tomcat 5.5.

A Study on the Data Analysis of Fire Simulation in Underground Utility Tunnel for Digital Twin Application (디지털트윈 적용을 위한 지하공동구 화재 시뮬레이션의 데이터 분석 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to find a solution to the massive data construction that occurs when fire simulation data is linked to augmented reality and the resulting data overload problem. Method: An experiment was conducted to set the interval between appropriate input data to improve the reliability and computational complexity of Linear Interpolation, a data estimation technology. In addition, a validity verification was conducted to confirm whether Linear Interpolation well reflected the dynamic changes of fire. Result: As a result of application to the underground common area, which is the study target building, it showed high satisfaction in improving the reliability of Interpolation and the operation processing speed of simulation when data was input at intervals of 10 m. In addition, it was verified through evaluation using MAE and R-Squared that the estimation method of fire simulation data using the Interpolation technique had high explanatory power and reliability. Conclusion: This study solved the data overload problem caused by applying digital twin technology to fire simulation through Interpolation techniques, and confirmed that fire information prediction and visualization were of great help in real-time fire prevention.

Removal of Intersected Region for Efficient Transmission of Spatial Objects (공간 객체의 효율적 전송을 위한 교차영역의 제거)

  • Spatial database systems in client-server environment have network overload due to the large amount of spatial data transmission. Users use the window query that loads partial region of a whole map for quick response time in the environment. A series of window query such as screen movement, enlargement or shrinkage requires data in similar region and this increases network overload by re-transmitting the same data in intersected region with the earlier transmitted region. Removing the transmitted data from query results can solve this problem. In this paper, we design and implement a spatial object manager in order to remove the intersected region occurred by a series of window query. The spatial object manager manages the object identifiers of transmitted objects and removes transmitted objects from spatial objects of the query result by using the removal technique of the intersected region for the transmission and comparison. We utilize GEOMania Millennium server, an open client-server spatial database system, as spatial object manager in this paper. The result of the performance evaluation shows that the spatial object manager removes the transmission of the data redundancy, reduces network overload and improves the overall system performance.

  • Web-based distance teacher training should focus on increasing self-directed problem solving skills of trainers by problem-based instruction(PBL). Performance assessment evaluates achievement of learning goals through the practical performance learning to solve problems in the real situation. This study proposes a web-based performance assessment model for the distance teacher training. It reflects fairness and objectiveness issues of performance assessment which elementary teachers are concerned about through the survey on distance teacher training, and relieves instructors from overload of managing and scoring performance tests. The proposed model provides problem-based learning situations, interactions between individuals and groups, and web-based cooperative evaluation and the peer evaluation.
