A 4㎾ RS840 CO2 laser with a powder auto-feeding apparatus has been used to deposit multiple overlapping tracks of Ni-base superalloy on to low carbon steel. It was found that the surface roughness(turbulence) of an overlapped cladding layer decreased with the increase of the overlapping ratio in an oscillating manner. When the overlapping ratio had values of 0.62, the surface turbulence was lowest. Overlapping ratio offer significant potential for improvement of materials surface properties such as corrosion performance and wear resistance. This paper reports that the overlapping ratio shows best corrosion resistance. The tensile residual stresses generated at the higher overlapping ratio( > 0.45) and the element concentration of Fe increased in the surface layer at the lower overlapping ratio( < 0.45) may lead to worse corrosion resistance.
This paper proposes a reconstruction scheme for overlapping characters in Thai printed document. Overlapping characters are characters that overlap with surrounding characters. The problem of overlapping characters is still an unsolved problem In commercially available software of Thai character recognition systems. The algorithm of reconstruction scheme is based on structural analysis of overlapping Thai printed characters. It consists of 2 steps: overlapping point determination and reconstruction of segmented characters. The overlapping point is defined as the intersection point between characters and can be determined by using templates. Then, an overlapping character is separated into segments at the intersection point. The structure of each segment may be an incomplete character and is not identical to the original one. Therefore, the reconstruction process is employed to add the incomplete part of these segments. The proposed scheme has been implemented and tested with 70 patterns of conventionally found in overlapping printed Thai characters with different typefaces and type sizes. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme can segment and reconstruct overlapping characters correctly. The proposed scheme can improve the recognition rate of commercially available software, ThaiOCR1.5 and ArnThai1.0, more than 60 percents
Compared to traditional fashion design, modern fashion design is used as a means that creates original and multiple types of beauty beyond fixed and standardized concept and form. Overlapping technique is the most suitable means to shed classical, authoritative and conservative form and it enables diverse borrowing and quotation for creation. This study aimed to analyze overlapping techniques that are expressed in art, architecture and fashion to find out its characteristics in the field of fashion. The result of this study is as follows. Based on theories of visual perception and advance research, types of overlapping technique were classified as pile, repetition, penetration and transparency. When comparing overlapping techniques in modern fashion with those of painting and architecture, fashion was distinctive in that it had movement and communicativeness through overlapping of fashion and the human body. Therefore, the overlapping technique has wide application and adaptation and can cause specialty, movability, communicativeness and collectivity, which can arouse psychological inspiration.
Mobile phones use the embedded memory in LDI (LCD Driver IC). In memory accessing mode, data overlapping phenomenon can occur. These days, various contents such as DMB, Camera, Game are merged to phone. Accordingly, with more data transmission, there would be more data overlapping phenomenon in memory accessing mode. Human eyes perceive this data overlapping phenomenon as simply horizontal line noise. The cause of the data overlapping phenomenon was analysed in this paper. The data overlapping phenomenon can be changed by the speed of data transmission between the host and LDI. The optimum memory accessing position can be defined. This paper proposes a new algorithm for avoiding data overlapping.

Cells in a culture process transform with time and produce many overlapping cells in their vicinity. We are interested in a separation algorithm for images of overlapping cells taken using a fluorescence optical microscope system during a cell culture process. In this study, all cells are assumed to have an ellipse-like shape. For an ellipse fitting-based method, an improved least squares method is used by decomposing the design matrix into quadratic and linear parts for the separation of overlapping cells. Through various experiments, the improved least squares method (numerically stable direct least squares fitting [NSDLSF]) is compared with the conventional least squares method (direct least squares fitting [DLSF]). The results reveal that NSDLSF has a successful separation ratio with an average accuracy of 95% for two overlapping cells, an average accuracy of 91% for three overlapping cells, and about 82% accuracy for four overlapping cells.

Many real networks exhibit overlapping community structures. Recent studies have been performed that analyze the impact of overlapping community structure on information propagation, but few of them concerned with individual behaviors. From this point of view, we propose a Markov process model to evaluate the performance of information propagation in social networks with overlapping community structures. In addition, many individual social behaviors are combined in the model. For example, individuals may exhibit selfish behaviors, such as individual and social selfishness, and people may discard the information after they have used it. The accuracy of the model is verified by simulation. Furthermore, the numerical results show that both overlapping community structure of the network and individual behaviors have a significant impact on the outbreak size and propagation speed of the information. Additionally, the overlapping community structure of the social network can reduce the impact of selfishness on information propagation.
In this paper, we propose a non-overlapping volume decomposition method that decomposes a solid model into non-overlapped volumes. The non-overlapping volume decomposition finds non-overlapped volumes from maximum volumes. After introducing the concept of the non-overlapping volume decomposition, we discuss technical issues and solutions for them. The non-overlapping volume decomposition is verified by the experiments with a prototype system. From the experiments, it was found that the non-overlapping volume decomposition shows better result than maximum volume decomposition from the view point of design feature recognition.

This paper presents design criteria of an overlapping decentralized controller by investigating the controllability and closed loop stability of the expanded system. To determine the criteria we classify the overlapping decentralized controller into an overlapping expanded controller and a contractible controller. It is shown that conditions of system expansion to design these controllers are differently used. The overlapping expanded controller needs the aggregation conditions due to the importance of a structure of the expanded system. The contractible controller which intends to use in the original space needs the restriction because of stability of the original system.
Previous studies have reported on the overlapping of $F_1$ and $F_2$ distribution for the vowels /o/ and /u/ produced by young Korean speakers of the Seoul dialect. It has been suggested that the overlapping of /o/ and /u/ occurs due to sound change. However, few studies have examined whether speech rate influences the overlapping of /o/ and /u/. On the other hand, previous studies have reported that the overlapping of /o/ and /u/ in syllable produced by male speakers is smaller than by female speakers. Few reports have investigated on the overlapping of the two vowels in read speech produced by male speakers. In the current study, we examined whether speech rates affect overlapping of /o/ and /u/ in read speech by male and female speakers. Read speech produced by twelve young adult native speakers of Seoul dialect were recorded in three speech rates. For female speakers, discriminant analysis showed that the discriminant rate became lower as the speech rate increases from slow to fast. Thus, this indicates that speech rate is one of the factors affecting the overlapping of /o/ and /u/. For male speakers, on the other hand, the discriminant rate was not correlated with speech rate, but the overlapping was larger than that of female speakers in read speech. Moreover, read speech by male speakers was less clear than by female speakers. This indicates that the overlapping may be related to unclear speech by sociolinguistic reasons for male speakers.
