Objective: To investigate airway volumes using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) by skeletal patterns, sex, and cervical vertebral maturation (CVM) stages in Korean adolescents. Methods: The sample consisted of pretreatment CBCT and cephalograms of 95 adolescents (aged 12-19) obtained out of 1,611 patients examined for orthodontic treatment from 2018 to 2020 in Kyungpook National University Dental Hospital. The samples were classified into two sex groups; three skeletal pattern groups, four chronological age groups and four CVM stages. Nasopharyngeal volumes (NPV), oropharyngeal volumes (OPV), total pharyngeal airway volume (TAV) and minimum cross-sectional area (MCA) measurements were taken from the CBCT. Multiple linear regression analyses to find out which one of the independent variables are good predictors for airway variables. Significant factors were analyzed by two-way multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) then multiple comparisons were analyzed using a t-test, and Fisher least significant difference. Results: Age, sex, CVM, and Sella-Nasion-B point have significant influence on airway variable. Males and females showed similar patterns of change in chronological age groups 1-3; however, males had larger NPV, OPV, and MCA at CVM in group 4. According to CVM stages, males had larger OPV, TAV, and MCA at CVM stage 6 (p-value: 0.019, 0.021, 0.015, respectively) and no sex differences at CVM stages 3, 4, and 5. Conclusions: Skeletal patterns have an effect on airway volume. Sex differences were found in CVM 6.

Objectives: This study was to examine the factors affecting Stress among adolescents in an area. Methods: Data collection was conducted by self-report survey. Survey participants were 1,255 from 11 middle and 7 high school students in a county of the Chungcheongnam-do, who were selected by the cluster sampling from May 2011. The Structural Equation Modeling was employed to investigate the research Model. Results: Tobacco errands variable was found to have a negative casual effect on self-efficacy factor and male dummy variable had a significant positive casual effect on self-efficacy. Self-efficacy had a significant negative casual effect on stress, smoke dummy variable had a statistically significant negative effect on stress and friends who smoke variable were found to have a positive casual effect on stress. Conclusions: In results, it was confirmd that the adolescents experienced more study related stress than other kinds of stress. Second, it was found out that every kind of stress are relevant to emotional problems and the behaviroral problems.
The purpose of this study was to find out whether home environmental variables had a greater effect on adolescents' violence against parents. The results of self-reporting questionnaires are as follows ; The victims of violence are mainly mothers. The socio-economic status didn't influence on the degree of violence against parents. The adolescents of the extreme family type used more serious violent behavior. The higher the degree of observed and experienced violence is, the higher the degree of violence against parents. Also, the higher the degree of home education is, the lower the degree of violence against parents. Of all variables, the observed violence and structure-environmental variables account for 37.6% of adolescents' violence against parents. The results of in-depth interview showed that birth-order didn't affect violence against parents. The victims of violence were mainly stepmothers and stepfathers. These parents' educational attitudes were disagreement in parents, seriously inflicted corporal punishment and were indifferent to adolescent. Also, interviewed adolescents were observed and experienced violence in home and used violence against others.
The study set out to identify the number of types of parental attitude profiles and their characteristics, as perceived by adolescents. The study also examined whether predictor variables (parent life satisfaction and self-esteem) influence parenting attitude profiles and whether these profiles, in turn, influence adolescent academic engagement and academic helplessness. The sample consisted of data on 2,590 adolescents and their parents from the 2018 Korean Children and Youths Panel Survey (KCYPS). The adolescents were in the first grade of middle school. Using Mplus, the author applied latent profile analysis to identify the parenting attitude profiles and predictor and outcome variables associated with these profiles. Three profiles were identified based on major features: (1) coercion-inconsistency (8.3%), (2) general (47.3%), and (3) warmth-autonomy support (44.4%). Parent life satisfaction and self-esteem predicted the classification of the profiles. Also, the parental profiles identified the level of adolescent academic engagement and academic helplessness. The findings have important implications for family policies and practices given the significance of parent psychological status, particularly life satisfaction and self-esteem, on their adolescent children's academic engagement and academic helplessness.
The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of social withdrawal, depression, aggression, negative parenting attitude as parental factors, friendship as school factors, academic helplessness and smartphone dependence, persistence, etc. on adolescent delinquency experiences as perceived personal factors. was carried out to understand. For this study, first year middle school students in the first year of the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey (KCPYS 2018) were analyzed. As a result of the study, it was found that depression, aggression, social withdrawal as individual factors of adolescents, negative parenting attitude as parent factors, academic helplessness, negative friendships, smartphone dependence, persistence, etc. as school factors influence delinquent behavior of adolescents. In addition, it was found that smartphone dependence and persistence play a partial mediating role in the process of personal factors, parental factors, and school factors affecting adolescents' delinquency experiences. Based on these results, first, we need to break stereotypes about adolescents and understand the accurate understanding of adolescents' delinquent behaviors and what expectations they have. Second, practical education is required for parents and grandparents for consistent parenting attitudes and effective parenting. Third, a positive self-awareness and correct human relationship formation program should be operated in order to improve the friendship among adolescents. Finally, correct smartphone usage and counseling interventions and prevention programs to alleviate impulsivity are needed.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to understand a variety of intervention studies to prevent smoking by adolescents in U.S. and find out implications for Korea. Methods: This study reviewed articles found in the internet and analysed the data of US DHHS and CDC. Results: The School Health Policies and Programs Study (SHPPS) is a national survey periodically conducted to assess school health policies and programs of U.S. The main components of SHPPS are health education and physical education, health services, mental health and social services, school policies, and school environments. The CDC guidelines for school health programs to prevent tobacco use and addiction are composed of policy, instruction, curriculum, training, family involvement, tobacco-use cessation efforts, and evaluation. School-based interventions to prevent smoking can be classified into the categories of information-giving curricula, social competence curricula, social influence approaches, combined methods draw on social competence and social influence approaches and multi-modal programmes and Youth Empowerment study. The key programs for adolescent smoking prevention are ALERT Project, HSPP, TNT Project, MPP, NC YES. Conclusions: As smoking is often the first step of unhealthy behaviour such as alcohol drinking, illegal drugs, and violence, smoking prevention programmes for adolescents in U.S. have been comprehensive school-based health programs. In smoking prevention programs for adolescents, CDC plays a critical role by supporting survey, research, policy, and funds. The effectiveness of the programs was high when it was based on school and involved parents, community, and mass media. As the effect of each programme is not expected to last for a long time, consistent repetition of these interventions is essential. Current smoking prevention programs for adolescents are exploring the empowerment approach focused on the active involvement of participants rather than traditional approaches using order and discipline.
Objectives: This study examined ways to promote desirable eating habits by choosing foods with low sugar contents and provide nutrition education in adolescents. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional survey. The sugar reduction perception and knowledge, sugary food preference, and intake frequency of 487 male and female high school students in Incheon were analyzed comparatively. Results: Approximately 94.9% and 94.5% of the subjects were unaware of the promotion of a sugar reduction policy and the sugar reduction in the basic guidelines for school meals, respectively. Approximately 95% of them had not received any sugar reduction nutrition education, and 90% were not interested in sugar reduction. The perception for sugar reduction was significantly higher in girls (3.43 out of 5 points) than in boys (3.16 out of 5 points) (P < 0.001). Knowledge about sugar was 3.65 out of 6 points in girls and 3.04 points in boys (P < 0.001). The preference and intake frequency for fruits of the total students were 4.24 out of 5 points and 2.56, respectively. For beverages, the preference was significantly higher in boys (3.97 points) than in girls (3.70 points) (P < 0.001), and the intake frequency was significantly higher in boys (2.26 points) than in girls (2.08 points) (P < 0.001). The preference for snacks was significantly higher for girls (4.19 points) than boys (4.02 points) (P < 0.01), and the intake frequency was 2.22 points in boys and 2.17 in girls, showing no significant difference. Sugar reduction perception and knowledge about sugar showed significant negative correlations with the snack intake frequency (r = -0.11, P < 0.05; -0.13, P < 0.05) after adjusting for gender, grade, and body mass index. Conclusions: The high school students' perception of sugar reduction was very low, and there was a significant correlation with sugary food intake, suggesting that the sugary food intake will decrease as the sugar reduction perception and knowledge about sugar increase.
The purpose of this study was to analysis school dropout of specialized vocational high school students using phenomenological research method. The interview for the research was carried out with 10 adolescents who dropped out specialized vocational high school from December 8 to 23, 2018. According to the result of the research, 31 themes were extracted from interviews with 10 research participants. And 10 theme clusters were categorized from these. And these clusters were divided into 3 domains : 'before school dropout', 'causes & process of school dropout, feeling about school dropout', 'after school dropout' Based on the finding of the study, major conclusions of this study were as follow: First, adolescents who dropped out specialized vocational high school suffered from hard school life, disappointing lead from teachers, stereotypical lesson. And they committed misdeeds, and had psychological difficulties. Some of them kept up the good relationship with their friends, teachers, parents, some of them did not. Some of them kept up the good relationship with their friends, teachers and parents, while some of them did not. Second, they chose dropout due to various different causes. The procedures of school dropout proceeded with comparative ease. The effect of dropout prevention program is very limited. The feeling they felt at the time of school dropout varied individually. Some adolescents who dropped out specialized vocational high school were satisfied while others were stressed out, regretting their decision. Third, they lived diligently working part-time jobs or preparing General Equivalency Diploma (GED) test after dropout. They experienced positive changes in their daily lives after dropout. But sometimes they experienced various difficulties and negative changes. Most of them had their goals, and they were preparing for them. Their expectation was low that their life will succeed if they returned to school. They wanted people to understand their decision about dropout. And multiple institutions are supporting adolescents who dropped out specialized vocational high school. They need practical support : Various information, activity for career experience, counseling etc.
Background: Smoking among adolescents has been linked to a variety of adverse and long term health consequences. "Susceptibility to smoking" or the lack of cognitive commitment to abstain from smoking is an important predictor of adolescent smoking. In 2008, we conducted a study to determine the psycho-sociological factors associated with susceptibility to smoking among secondary school students in the district of Kota Tinggi, Johor. Materials and Methods: Two thousand seven hundred students were randomly selected by proportional stratified sampling. Analyses on 1,736 non-smoking students revealed that prevalence of adolescents susceptible to smoking was 16.3%. Results: Male gender (aOR=2.05, 95%CI= 1.23-3.39), poor academic achievement (aOR 1.60, 95%CI 1.05-2.44), ever-smoker (aOR 2.17, 95%CI 1.37-3.44) and having a smoking friend (aOR 1.76, 95%CI 1.10-2.83) were associated with susceptibility to smoking, while having the perception that smoking prohibition in school was strictly enforced (aOR 0.55, 95%CI 0.32-0.94), and had never seen friends smoking in a school compound (aOR 0.59, 95%CI 0.37-0.96) were considered protective factors Conclusions: These results indicate that follow-up programmes need to capitalise on the modifiable factors related to susceptibility to smoking by getting all stakeholders to be actively involved to stamp out smoking initiation among adolescents.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects on smartphone overdependence of out-of-school youths. Methods: This was a cross sectional study design using the out of school youth Panel Survey(2017). We conducted an empirical study consisting of 318 participants with using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficients, hierarchical multiple regression analysis to identify factors influencing smartphone overdependence. Results: Smartphone overdependence correlated positively with depression and carrier barriers such as lack of career informations, career development anxiety and financial difficulties. The main factors of smartphone overdependence in adolescents out of school were depression (β = .22, p = .002), gender (β = .21, p <.001), future anxiety (β = .15, p = .0.0), subjective health status (β = .13, p = .028), smoking (β = .13, p = .032). Conclusion: Smartphone overdependence management programs for out-of-school youths should be included emotional and informational support to alleviate anxiety, fear of failing in one's career, as well as mental and psychological interventions to reduce level of depression.
