  • The lack of consideration for statistical properties in Taguchi's threelevel linear graphs is rectified. We propose a new set of linear graphs for the threelevel orthogonal arrays according to the maximum resolution criterion. In the presence of twofactor interactions however, the serious bias of all the estimated effects as well as the estimated variance shows that these designs should not be employed. The various alternative designs are discussed.

  • Let G be a compact Lie group and M a semialgebraic G space in some orthogonal representation space of G. We prove that if G is finite then M has an equivariant semialgebraic triangulation. Moreover this triangulation is unique. When G is not finite we show that M has a semialgebraic G CW complex structure, and this structure is unique. As a consequence compact semialgebraic G space has an equivariant simple homotopy type.

  • The concept of Balanced Factorial Experiment (BFE) was introduced by Shah (1958). The conditions for BFE were set up by Kurkjian and Zelen (1963) and Kshirsagar (1966). Generalized Cyclic Factorial Experiment (GCFE), which is more wide class of designs than BFE, do not satisfy the condition of BFE. So all contrasts belonging to the same interaction are not estimated with equal variance. The main purpose of this paper is to show that GCFE have orthogonal factorial structure and the scheme of the size of variances for all normalized contrasts in GCFE is similar to the original intra-block association scheme.

  • In this paper, we propose three symbol syn-chronization schemes for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) systems. The cyclic extension preceding OFDM symbols is of decisive importance for these schemes. The first scheme uses the phase-differential coding of the received OFDM signal. The second and the third schemes use the length of the received OFDM signal. All three schemes make symbol synchronization possible, even though there is a frequency off-set in the system. Simulation results show that these schemes can be used to synchronize an OFDM system over AWGN and multi-path fading channels.

  • In this paper, we present a new method for generating a set of complementary sequences that can be simultaneously transmitted and yet compressed into a short pulse on reveive, and its application to ultrasound imaging. This new complementary sequences can be designed based on a filter bank theory. The new complementary sequences can be used to improve the SNR of ultrasound imaging without sacrificing the spatial resolution and frame rate, compared to conventional pulse-echo imaging. Computer simulations are performed to verify the proposed method.

  • In this paper, a frequency domain Expectation-Maximization (EM)-based channel estimation algorithm for Space Time Block Coded-Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (STBC-OFDM) systems is investigated to support higher data rate applications in wireless communications. The computational complexity of the frequency domain EM-based channel estimation is increased when higher order constellations are used because of the ascending size of the search set space. Thus, a search set reduction algorithm is proposed to decrease the complexity without sacrificing the system performance. The performance results of the proposed algorithm is obtained in terms of Bit Error Rate (BER) and Mean Square Error (MSE) for 16QAM and 64QAM modulation schemes.

  • The Mahalanobis-Taguchi System (MTS) is a diagnostic and predictive method for multivariate data. In the MTS, the Mahalanobis space (MS) of reference group is obtained using the standardized variables of normal data. The Mahalanobis space can be used for multi-class classification. Once this MS is established, the useful set of variables is identified to assist in the model analysis or diagnosis using orthogonal arrays and signal-to-noise ratios. And other several techniques have already been used for classification, such as linear discriminant analysis and logistic regression, decision trees, neural networks, etc. The goal of this case study is to compare the ability of the Mahalanobis-Taguchi System and logistic regression using a data set.

  • Let G be a compact semialgebraic group and M a semi-algebraic G-set. We prove that there exists a semialgebraic slice at every point of M. Moreover M can be covered by finitely many semialgebraic G-tubes. As an application we give a different proof that every semialgebraic G-set admits a semi algebraic G-embedding into some semialgebraic orthogonal representation space of G, which has been proved in [15].

  • On the hyperbolic space $D^n$, codimension-one totally geodesic foliations of class $C^k$ are classified. Except for the unique parabolic homogeneous foliation, the set of all such foliations is in one-one correspondence (up to isometry) with the set of all functions z : [0, $\pi$] $\rightarrow$ $S^{n-1}$ of class $C^{k-1}$ with z(0) = $e_1$ = z($\pi$) satisfying |z'(r)| ${\leq}1$ for all r, modulo an isometric action by O(n-1) ${\times}\mathbb{R}{\times}\mathbb{Z}_2$. Since 1-dimensional metric foliations on $D^n$ are always either homogeneous or flat (that is, their orthogonal distributions are integrable), this classifies all 1-dimensional metric foliations as well. Equations of leaves for a non-trivial family of metric foliations on $D^2$ (called "fifth-line") are found.

  • Rapid Prototyping(RP) has been widely applied in designing and developing processes a new product. The functional requirements of a rapid prototyping system are high speed and high accuracy, and they depend on the operating parameters, some of which can be set by users. The accuracy is evaluated by dimensional errors and form errors of manufactured pars. A specially designed specimen with various features has been used for the accuracy evaluation. According to the Taguchi experimental design techniques, and orthogonal array of experiments has been set which has the least number of experimental runs to find the parametric effects. A laser scanner is used to obtain the point data of the parts and Surfacer is used to determine the lengths and angles. The conditions for the FDM manufacturing parametrs have been found.
