  • Proper orthogonal decomposition is a statistical pattern analysis technique for finding the dominant components, called the proper orthogonal modes, in ensembles of spatially distributed data. We present recent ideas based on proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) and detailed experiments that yield new perspectives into the microscale structures. The linearized modeling technique based on POD is very useful to show the principal characteristics of the complex dynamic responses.

신경회로망과 회귀모형을 이용한 특수일 부하 처리 기법 (Special-Days Load Handling Method using Neural Networks and Regression Models)

  • 전력수요를 예측할 경우 가장 중요한 문제 중의 하나가 특수일 부하의 처리문제이다. 따라서 본 연구에서 길고(구정, 추석) 짧은(식목일, 현충일 등) 특수일 피크 부하를 신경회로망과 회귀모형을 이용하여 예측하는 방법을 제시한다. 신경회로망 모형의 특수일 부하 처리는 패턴 변환비를 이용하며, 4차의 직교 다항 회귀모형은 과거의 10년 (1985∼1994)간의 특수일 피크부하 자료를 이용하여 길고 짧은 특수일 부하를 예측한다. 특수일 피크 부하를 예측한 결과, 신경회로망 모형의 주간 평균 예측 오차율과 직교 다항 회귀모형의 예측 오차율을 분석한 결과 1∼2[%]대로 두 모형 모두 양호한 결과를 얻었다. 또한 4차의 직교 다항 회귀 모형의 수정결정계수 및 F 검정을 분석한 결과 구성한 예측 모형의 타당성을 확인하였다. 두 모형의 특수일 부하를 예측한 결과를 비교해 보면 긴 특수일 부하를 예측할 때는 패턴 변환비를 이용한 신경회로망 모형이 보다 더 효과적이었고, 짧은 특수일 부하를 예측할 경우에는 두 방법 모두 유효하였다.

Theoretical Interpretation of Interference Arising Between Closely Spaced Dual Polarized Geostationary Satellites

  • The interference between closely placed co-coverage satellites was analyzed. In general, a satellite network may use different orthogonal polarizations and frequencies to increase the throughput of a satellite. However, when orthogonal linear polarization (horizontal polarization and vertical polarization) or orthogonal circular polarization (left-handed circular polarization and right-handed circular polarization) is used, the signal from one polarization sense to another may be coupled, resulting in cross-polarization interference. This signal-coupling arises due to the finite value of the cross-polarization discrimination of the earth station. In this study, field equations were used to analyze the interference between adjacent satellites using co-frequency. The level of interference was compared to that when two adjacent satellites used the same polarization. The simulation results show that the interference mainly depends on the off-axis co-polar pattern and the cross-polar pattern of the earth station antenna.

THE EXISTENCE THEOREM OF ORTHOGONAL MATRICES WITH p NONZERO ENTRIES

  • It was shown that if Q is a fully indecomposable $n{\times}n$ orthogonal matrix then Q has at least 4n-4 nonzero entries in 1993. In this paper, we show that for each integer p with $4n-4{\leq}p{\leq}n^2$, there exist a fully indecomposable $n{\times}n$ orthogonal matrix with exactly p nonzero entries. Furthermore, we obtain a method of construction of a fully indecomposable $n{\times}n$ orthogonal matrix which has exactly 4n-4 nonzero entries. This is a part of the study in sparse matrices.

  • 3-D orthogonal woven carbon/Al composites were fabricated using a pressure infiltration casting method. Especially, to minimize geometrical deformation of fiber pattern and $Al_4C_3$ formation, the process parameters of the minimum pressurizing force, melting temperature, delay and holding time of molten aluminum pressurizing was optimized through the PC-controlled monitoring system. Resonant ultrasound spectroscopy (RUS) was utilized to measure the effective elastic constants of 3-D orthogonal woven carbon/Al composites. The CTE measurement was conducted using strain gages in a heating oven.

  • As Light-Emitting Diodes(LEDs) continue to advance in performance, their application in automotive lamps is increasing. Automotive LEDs utilize light guides not only for aesthetics but also to control light quantity and direction. Light guides employ patterns of a few hundred micrometers(㎛) to regulate the light, and the surface roughness(Ra) of these patterns can reach tens of nanometers(nm). Given that these light guides are produced through injection molding, mold processing technology with high surface quality micro-patterns is required. This study serves as a preliminary investigation into the development of high surface quality micro-pattern processing technology. It examines the surface roughness of the workpiece based on the cutting direction of the pattern and the cutting fluid type when cutting micro-patterns on STAVAX steel using cubic Boron Nitride(cBN) tools. The experiments involved machining a step-shaped micro-pattern with a height of 60 ㎛ and a pitch of 400 ㎛ in a 22×22 mm area under identical cutting conditions, with only the cutting direction and cutting fluid type being varied. The machining results of four cases were compared, encompassing two cases of cutting direction(parallel to the pattern, orthogonal to the pattern) and two cases of cutting fluid type (flood, mist). Consequently, the Ra value was found to be the highest(Ra 128.33 nm) when machining with the flood type in parallel to the pattern, while it was the lowest(Ra 95.22 nm) when machining with the mist type orthogonal to the pattern. These findings confirm that there is a difference of up to 25.8 % in the Ra value depending on the cutting direction and cutting fluid type.

SDF 알고리즘을 이용한 연상기억 처리모델 (A new associative memory model using SDF filter)

  • A new associative memory model using the SDF filter, one of the multiple filter for pattern recognition, is suggested in this paper. The SDF filter characteristics such as pattern classification lets the memorized patterns have orthogonal characteristics one another, so that enhances the associative memory's retrieval ability to the original pattern. The computer simulation shows that this new model is very useful in case that the imput patterns are seriously distorted and the cross-correlation between the memorized patterns is very high.

Performance Analysis of Suboptimal Receiver Combining Adaptive Array Antenna and Orthogonal Decision-Feedback Detector for DS/CDMA System

  • In this paper, we propose a suboptimal receiver combining adaptive array antenna and orthogonal decision-feedback detector in DS/CDMA system. Adaptive array antenna can cancel out undesired signal using beamforming scheme. However, if there are interfering signals from undesired users with the same incident angle as that of a desired user, an adaptive array antenna cannot suppress them. The proposed receiver can cancel out remaining interference from users having nearly the same beam pattern. And we employ Orthogonal Decision-Feedback Detector (ODFD) as multiuser detection. The ODFD performs as good as the decorrelating decision -feedback detector (DDD) with much less complexity. Simulation results show that the proposed system provides a significantly enhanced performance.

가상환경에서의 위치정보 제시를 위한 청각적 공간배열 (Auditory Spatial Arrangement of Object's Position in Virtual and Augmented Environment)

  • 본 연구는 공간적 정보의 청각적 제시 가능성을 확인하기 위해 머리전달함수(head-related transfer function: HRTF)를 통해 생성된 3D사운드를 가상공간상 대상 위치의 직각형태(orthogonal pattern), 혹은 대각형태(diagonal pattern)의 조합으로 배열하여 투시장치(See-Through HMD)로 증강현실을 경험하고 있는 사용자 과제수행의 정확성과 반응시간을 측정하였다. 본 연구에서 실시한 실험들의 결과를 종합하면, 3D 사운드로 대상의 위치 정보를 제시할 때는 사용자로부터의 방향은 직각으로 위치시키는 정보 배열이 정확성을 확보할 수 있고, 또한 가상적 깊이를 이용하여 정보를 배열하는 것도 그 깊이를 구분할 수 있으나 정확성이 떨어짐을 확인하였다. 특히 보다 현실적인 과제 상황에서의 수행을 비교하기 위해 설계된 이중과제(dual task)를 하는 동안 제시된 청각자극 조건에서도 이러한 정확성과 반응시간의 차이가 마찬가지로 나타났다. 이런 결과를 통해 3D사운드로 대상의 위치와 같은 공간적 정보를 제시 가능한 최적의 배열 형태를 제안하는데, 이는 어떤 패턴으로 정보를 구조화하여 제시하느냐에 따라 청각적 위치 정보 제시의 성공 여부가 결정된다는 것을 의미한다.
