Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors influencing nurse turnover intention in small and medium sized hospitals in the metropolitan area. Methods: A cross-sectional survey design was used. A questionnaire was distributed to the nurses in small and medium sized hospitals. The data of 209 nurses was analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression. Results: Organizational commitment and age were identified as factors influencing turnover intention. These factors explained 56.8% of variance of turnover intention. Conclusion: Results suggest that establishment of organizational commitment needs to be discussed and continuously developed. Further study is also necessary to identify the key mechanism in nurse turnover intention.
Up to now, a shortage of SW staff has been a threat to providing satisfactory SW services in Korea. Therefore, it is necessary for us to understand factors that satisfy SW personnel and then retain them not to leave their current job positions. Hereafter, we examine whether SW manpower's job satisfaction fully mediates or partially mediates the relationship between the drivers of turnover intention such as satisfaction on IT education, job fitness, fairness of rewards and organizational moods and turnover intention. Using survey data from 745 SW staffs, we found that all antecedents except for satisfaction on IT education have significant impacts on job satisfaction as well as verified that the job satisfaction partially or fully mediates the relationships between job fitness, fairness of reward and organizational moods and turnover intention. Based on our findings, our results allowed us to provide a deeper understanding of the forces on turnover intention by examining the role of mediating effect on job satisfaction.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationships between professionalism, job involvement, organizational commitment and turnover intention among clinical nurses. Methods: The data were collected using a questionnaire from 1,419 nurses who were working in 35 different general hospitals in Korea. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient and $Scheff{\grave{e}}$ test with SAS program were used. Results: The means of professionalism, job involvement, organizational commitment, turnover intention were 80.90 (min25~max125), 22.22 (min7~max35), 48.63 (min15~max75), and 11.47(min4~max20) respectively. There were statistically significant correlations between professionalism, job involvement, organizational commitment and turnover intention. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop a program for nurses to improve the levels of professionalism, job involvement, and organizational commitment, which would result in reducing turnover rates of clinical nurses.
This study investigates the moderation effect that organizational trust had on the relationship between perceptions of organizational politics and organizational commitment, intention to turnover, organizational citizenship behavior by analyzing the empirical data of 716 personnels collected from university hospital in Korea. We hypothesized that perceptions of organizational politics would tended to negatively related to a high level of organizational commitment and intention to turnover, organizational citizenship behaviors, and that organizational trust would moderate the relationship between perceptions of organizational politics and outcomes. These results suggest that organizational politics of perceptions had negative impacts on organizational commitment and organizational citizenship behaviors, while perceptions of organizational politics had positive impact on intention to turnover. Furthermore, the level of organizational trust moderated the relationship between perceptions of organizational politics and outcomes. Based on these findings, implications of the research findings are discussed, and recommendation for future research and practice are provided.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the casual relationship between nurses' social capital and turnover intention and to verify the goodness of fit between a hypothetical model and actual data in order to suggest the best model. Methods: This survey was conducted with 315 nurses working in general hospitals in Seoul. Data were collected from December 1 to December 30, 2011, and analyzed using SPSS Windows 18.0 and AMOS 16.0. Results: Nurses' social capital was found to have a direct effect on reducting organization cynicism and increasing organizational commitment. Nurses' organizational cynicism and organizational commitment were found to have a direct effect on turnover intention, but social capital did not have a direct effect on turnover intention. However, social capital had a partial and indirect effect on turnover intention through mediating organizational cynicism and organizational commitment. Conclusion: Results of this study indicate that nurse managers should put increased effort in reducing nurses' organizational cynicism and improving their organizational commitment, two contrary parameters. At the same time managers need to develop plans to establish social capital more efficiently so that nurses have lower turnover intention.
Purposes: In this study, we examined the factors which silenced the organizing members and how the factors affects deprivation of employment about the organization culture, the organizational silence, and the turnover intention. Methodology: In order to research, we carry out a survey on 400 employees of small and medium hospitals. Among them, 321 questionnaires were used for actual analysis, excluding insincere respondents, non-responders or duplicate respondents. In order to verify the hypotheses in this study, we conduct the covariance Structural Equation Model(SEM). Finding: We obtained results using following hypotheses. First, ''The organization culture has an effect on the turnover intention.'' Second, ''The organization culture has an effect on the organizational silence'' Third, ''The organizational silence has a influence on the turnover intention.'' Finally, ''When the organization culture mediates the organizational silence, the adaptation relationship of the ornization effectiveness is different.'', as the key hypothesis, showed that the agreement culture, rational culture, and hierarchical culture of the organization culture type were statistically significant. The organizational silence as a parameter has the partial mediating effects(-) because it has direct and indirect effects. Practical Implications: The results of this study showed that the reason for the organizational silence of the organizing members is that the organization culture by a grade of rank is the largest and these the organizational silence affects the turnover intention.
The purpose of this study was to empirically investigate the relationship between hospital employeesʼ perceptions of organizational politics, organizational effectiveness such as job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and turnover intention. We also evaluated the moderating effect of organizational trust on the relationships between POPs and organizational effectiveness. By analyzing 726 employeesʼ data including physicians, nurses, medical technicians, and administrators from one private hospital, POPs was found to have had a highly negative relationship with job satisfaction and organizational commitment while a highly positive relationship with turnover intention. Furthermore, organizational trust moderated the relationship between POPs and job satisfaction, and also POPs and turnover intention, while no moderating effect appeared between POPs and organizational commitment. Within the organization, employees who are in a group with high organizational trust have low job satisfaction and high turnover intention when they have high POPs rather than a group with low organizational trust. Further the implications of these results and future directions of the study have been discussed.
