  • This study was conducted to estimate the decomposition capacity for organic matter by microbe of tidal flat sediments (Hajae, Dongjin and Mankyung). The decomposition rate constants (K') have been determined by Thomas slope method and compared with the values of each tidal flats. The decomposition rates of organic matter by microbe were initially very slow, but at the end of 12 hours, very sharply increased. The values of decomposition rate constant for Dongjin, Mankyung and Hajae tidal flat sediment were 1.364$day^{-1}$/, 1.080d$day^{-1}$ and 0.735$day^{-1}$, respectively. The decomposition rate constant of Dongjin tidal flat sediment which affected by livestock wastewater was higher than others. The decomposition quantity (mg/g/day) of organic matter by microbe of tidal flat sediments was 0.4mg/g/day for Dongjin, 0.36mg/g/day for Mankyung and 0.36mg/g/day for Hajae. The average of decomposition quantity was 0.37mg/g/day. To calculate purification capacity (kg/ha) of organic matter by microbe, we applied to two assumption ; 1) biological action by microbe is occur within 0.1cm under surface 2) specific gravity of sediment are 2.5g/$\textrm{cm}^2$. The purification capacity of organic matter by microbe of tidal flat sediment was calculated to 9.25kg/ha. The relationships between decomposition rate constant (K') and ignition loss (I. L), chemical oxygen demand by sediment (CO $D_{sed}$), total carbon(TC), silt and clay as index of organic matter were a high positive($R^2$=0.97~1.00).

  • Most countries have problems regarding the quantity and quality of their fresh water resources, and many countries are suffering from the e(feces of pollution of their inland and coastal waters. Italy is one of the country in which water supply is extremely uneven, and there are wide areas where it represents a real emergencies during periods of drought. All the watershed's water resources, however, are subjected to considerable anthropogenic pressure such as organic load with heavy metals. The high values of organic materials are accounted for mainly by runoff and percolation waste water from urban and agricultural land extensively ma- nured with effluents (rom livestock farming, while high concentration of heavy metals are found in watersheds of national and interregional significance. More than 35% of the underground water bearing strata of certain basins are already contaminated by pollution boih industrial and agricultural pollutants. In these connection, the problems and new measures of water resources in Italy are overviewed.

  • Nowadays liquid manure can no longer be regarded as a waste product, but as a compound fertilizer, which should be used as efficiently as possible, especially on the farm. Additionally, there is the intensified public discussion about environmental issues. With respect to the ecological effects of the proper application of liquid manure, administrative regulations in the form of guidelines, decrees and ordinances have been established in region. It is questionable though, if such quantifying restrictions bring a reduction of ground water pollution, or if not through these measures new problems will be created, i. e. be temporarily postponed. Moreover, in this Study, possible Operation and technical Improvement are presented.

  • Microalgal bioremediation of CO2, nutrients, endocrine disruptors, hydrocarbons, pesticides, and cyanide compounds have evaluated comprehensively. Microalgal mitigation of nutrients originated from municipal wastewaters, surface waters, and livestock wastewaters has shown great applicability. Algal utilization on secondary and tertiary treatment processes might provide unique and elegant solution on the removing of substances originated from various sources. Microalgae have displayed 3 growth regimes (autotrophic, heterotrophic, and mixotrophic) through which different organic and inorganic substances are being utilized for growth and production of different metabolites. There are still some technology challenges requiring innovative solutions. Strain selection investigation should be directed towards identification of algal that are extremophiles. Understanding and manipulation of metabolic pathways of algae will possible unfold solution to utilization of algae for mitigation of dissolve organic nitrogen in wastewaters.

  • Recently, many researches on the biomass of the agricultural and livestock wastes are being conducted in several respects. The use of biomass is of benefit to the curtailment of oil import, environmental pollution decrease, global warming mitigation and so on. And, in the agricultural sphere, making use of agricultural byproducts can contribute to the revitalization of the agricultural industry and rural community. In other words, making new products or energy by using biomass have a possibility to be developed as a new industry. The industry can create new businesses and job opportunities for rural dwellers. Also, major 3 positive effects of market formation for the agricultural wastes, increase of the idle land use and creation of the new business are expected. However, the use of biomass may be difficult to secure a proper right as a market good in the autonomic market economy. It is necessary to establish or amend related laws or systematic tools for the revitalization of the biomass use. Also, it is required for the government to bear partial costs of the facilities and others in the beginning stage.

  • The Biochemical Oxygen Demand(BOD) is one of important parameters for the most widely used method of organic pollution in wastewater and wastewater treatment effluent. As the conventional BOD test needs 5-day long incubation period, it is thus incompatible with real time control of wastewater treatment plant. To resolve this problem, in the present study an on-line Dissolved Oxygen(DO) monitoring system was used to observe the transient change of dissolved oxygen concentration in livestock wastewater. The system was composed of BOD sensor, amplifier and computer. It was observed that the concentration of the microorganism in the livestock wastewater was relatively constant during the growth period of initial one hour, which allowed the assumption of the constant Oxygen Uptake Rate(OUR) within one hour of measurement. It was thus concluded that the present scheme provided a protocol for automatic measurement of BOD in livestock wastewater, which can be applicable to optimal control of livestock wastewater treatment plant.

  • This experiment was conducted to determine the effect of wrap color on the quality of round baled grass silage at experimental field of Grassland and Forages Division, National Livestock Research Institute, RDA, Suwon from 1997 to 1998. The experiment was consist of randomized block design with three replications. The treatments were three wrap color(white, black and light green). Wrap color did not affect chemical composition. Fiber components(ADF and NDF) of all silages after 2 months were higher than those of forages at ensiling. Among tested wrap colors, white color wrap resulted in lower pH than others (p<0.05) but, there was no significant difference between black and light green color. Dry matter content of light green color was the highest among warp colors, but there was no signifiant difference (p<0.05). Acetic and butyric acid contents of all plots. were not found significant difference among wrap color and wrap color did not influence lactic acid and organic acid concentration. The effect of wrap color on the quality grade and DM loss also were not found significant difference. Results of this study indicate that wrap color does not influence the quality of silage.
