System Identification and Damage Estimation via Substructural Approach

  • For system identification of large structures, it is not practical to identify the entire structure due to the prohibitive computational time and difficulty in numerical convergence. This paper explores the possibility of performing system identification at substructure level, taking advantage of reduction in both the number of unknowns and the number of degrees of freedom involved. Another advantage is that different portions (substructures) of a structural system can be identified independently and even concurrently with parallel computing. Two substructural identification methods are formulated on the basis whether substructural approach is used to obtain first-order or second-order model. For substructural first-order model, identification at the substructure level will be performed by means of the Observer/Kalman filter Identification (OKID) and the Eigensystem Realization Algorithm (ERA) whereas identification at the global level will be performed to obtain second-order model in order to evaluate the system's stiffness and mass parameters. In the case of substructural second-order model, identification will be performed at the substructure level throughout the identification process. The efficiency of the proposed technique is shown by numerical examples for multi-storey shear buildings subjected to random forces, taking into consideration the effects of noisy measurement data. The results indicate that both the proposed methods are effective and efficient for damage identification of large structures.

  • Recently there has been attempts to develop hospital information system including order communicating system, patient tracing system, tumor registry system, office automation system and picture archiving and communication system(PACS). The authors devloped a practical system that was operated via order communication system of Yeungnam University Hospital. The system provided us the speed, accuracy, reliability, retention, economy and wide applicability through practical test. So we believed that this system would be one of standard computerized programs in radiation oncology practice and providing widely usable data for clinical statistics, medical record, tumor registry system and clinical researches.

Taylor Series Discretization Method for Input-Delay Nonlinear Systems

  • Anew discretization method for the input-driven nonlinear continuous-time system with time delay is proposed. It is based on the combination of Taylor series expansion and first-order hold assumption. The mathematical structure of the new discretization scheme is explored. The performance of the proposed discretization procedure is evaluated by case studies. The results demonstrate that the proposed discretization scheme can assure the system requirements even though under a large sampling period. A comparison between first order hold and zero-order hold is simulated also.

  • This paper presents a controller design technique for standard 2nd-order system satisfying user-specified phase margin. A simple method is presented to meet stability margin for the 2nd-order system, which is important since the 2nd-order plant models are frequently encountered in the practical plant models such as actuators of the optical drive systems. Through the comparison of the specified stability margin and achieved stability margin, it is shown in the simple example that the proposed technique is useful in the initial design of control systems with stability margin specifications.

  • This paper is shown that the impulse and unit step response of second-order system can be computed by the analytic methods using Laplace transform. Also, the transient response specifications are explicitly formulated by the peak undershoot and maximum overshoot of the step response. Three different second-order systems are investigated: prototype system, system with LHP(left half plane) real zero, and system with RHP(right half plane) real zero. Based on these analytic results, this paper presents the sufficient and necessary conditions for the second-order linear SISO(single-input/single-output) stable system to have the nonovershooting or monotone nondecreasing step response.

  • Recent studies among various activities taking place in order-picking warehouse system have shown various researches to reduce the order-picking costs occupying more than half the total costs. One way of improving the warehouse system performance is to separate from a picking area and a reserve area in one unit rack. This study is concerned on the performance evaluation model for picking and replenishing facility of refrigerated warehouse using simulation method. In this study, we developed a mathematical model to compute the system performance solve this problem using simulation method. We demonstrate the system performance using AutoMod Simulator and verify the results to compare mathematical results of the system performance of warehouse system. A systematic approach proposed n this study for an optimal planning of order-picking warehouse is known as an effective method for planning of order-picking warehouse and a performance evaluation problem considering both picking and replenishment.

  • This study proposes and validates a new column type electric power steering system (EPS-TT). It is driven by a uni-directional motor and two electro-magnetic clutches. The assist motor produces assist torque in only one direction and two clutches transmit the torque to the column of steering system in either left or right direction with respect to the steering input. A full order and a reduced order models are developed to evaluate the EPS-TT. Models are also used to investigate the vehicle responses. A PID control logic is designed to control the torque of the assist motor. A driver model is applied to the system and the resulting performances are analyzed. The results show that the performances of the full order model are similar to those of reduced order model. The results also prove that the performances achieved by the EPS-TT are improved compared to those of a conventional EPS-TT across the frequency domain.

  • In this paper, the magnitude of undershoot and overshoot in a prototype second order system with one positive real zero is computed by the analytic methods. Also, it will be shown that the peak times of the undershoot and overshoot can be calculated using the impulse and step response of the second order system. Three different cases are investigated: underdamped(p<ζ<1), critically damped(ζ=1) and overdamped(ζ>1) cases. We deal with the undamped(ζ=0) case as a special case of the underdamped. And a compensation method is proposed to reduce undershoots of the nonmininmun phase system using feedforward compensator.

  • A new implicit discontinuous Galerkin spectral element method (DGSEM) based on the first order hyperbolic system(FOHS) is presented for solving elliptic type partial different equations, such as the Poisson problems. By utilizing the idea of hyperbolic formulation of Nishikawa[1], the original Poisson equation was reformulated in the first-order hyperbolic system. Such hyperbolic system is solved implicitly by the collocation type DGSEM. The steady state solution in pseudo-time, which is the solution of the original Poisson problem, was obtained by the implicit solution of the global linear system. The optimal polynomial orders of 𝒪(𝒽𝑝+1)) are obtained for both the solution and gradient variables from the test cases in 1D and 2D regular grids. Spectral accuracy of the solution and gradient variables are confirmed from all test cases of using the uniform grids in 2D.

The Accuracy of Prescriptions Using a Computerized Chemotherapy Order System (항암화학요법 처방전산 시스템에 의한 처방 정확도에 관한 연구)

  • A computerized chemotherapy order system (CCOS) was developed to improve the accuracy and efficiency of prescriptions for pharmacy medication scheduling at a teaching hospital, Asan Medical Center, Seoul, Korea. We evaluated the system by comparing prescriptions before and after the implementation of the system and by analyzing the effects of the system on dosing accuracy (only against 5-FU), prescription change, overdoses above maximum limit and medication disposal in non computerized program group (control group) and CCOS group. In terms of dosing accuracy, prescription error rate (%) was significantly decreased in CCOS groups compared with the control group. The rate of prescription changes was also significantly decreased in CCOS groups. Regarding overdoses above maximum limit, we found that there was no prescription order exceeding the dosage limit in CCOS groups in contrast to significant overdoses in control group. In terms of medication disposal, there was no significant difference between 2 groups. We suggest that the computerized chemotherapy order system for chemotherapy may bean important and useful tool for minimizing prescribing errors in the hospitals.
