  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine whether the subjective oral health awareness and oral health behavior of Korean adults would affect their oral health indexes. It's meant to utilize existing data of epidemiological and alternative indexes in an effort to have a comprehensive and understanding of the relationship between the subjective oral health awareness and oral health behavior of Korean adults. And the following findings were obtained Methods : The subjects in this study were 7,285 adults who were selected from the third-year(2009) raw data of the fourth national health & nutrition survey. Results : As for the relationship between oral health awareness and oral health indexes, there were statistically significant differences in DMFT index, FS-T index, T-health index and CPI index according to self-rated health status, self-rated oral health state, necessity of dental treatment and oral health concern. Concerning the relationship between oral health behavior and the oral health indexes, whether they got a dental checkup over the past year, daily toothbrushing frequency, use or nonuse of oral health supplies and mastication problems made statistically significant differences to DMFT index, FS-T index, T-health index and CPI index. The variables that had a significant impact on oral health were selected from among the variables of oral health awareness and oral health behavior that affected oral health, and the variables were selected as independent variables. And then the oral health indexes were selected as dependent variables, and a multiple regression analysis was carried out by using the selected independent and dependent variables. As a results, it's found that the variables made a 22.4% prediction of DMFT index; 51.3% for FS-T index; 52.0% for T-health index; 47.4% for CPI index. Conclusions : The above-mentioned findings illustrated that the relationship between the subjective oral health awareness and oral health behavior of the Korean adults exercised an influence on their oral health indexes. Accurate and effective oral health plans should be mapped out by grasping the oral health status of adults from diverse angles to facilitate the maintenance and promotion of their oral health status.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide basic information for improving oral health and dental hygiene through comprehensive dental hygiene care. The subjects in this study were 54 patients who had been treated for 4 weeks in clinic of the Dental Hygiene Department of G University under comprehensive dental hygiene control and care and measured their oral condition, intensity of oral malodor, Simplified Oral Hygiene Index (S-OHI), and Modified Personal Hygiene Performance Index (PHP-M), and surveyed their oral health behavior and oral health consciousness. The results of the study were as follows: 1. The intensity of malodor decreased by 16.49ppb from 75.33ppb on the first visit to 50.84ppb on the last visit when the comprehensive dental hygiene care had been finished. 2. As to change in S-OHI according to gender between the first visit and the last visit for comprehensive dental hygiene care, S-OHI decreased from 2.89 on the first visit to 1.16 on the last visit, and the difference was statistically highly significant. 3. As to change in PHP-M index by tooth according to gender and age between the first visit and the last visit, PHP-M index of the first 6 teeth decreased very significantly from 0.50 on the first visit to 0.34 on the last visit. 4. As a whole, significant improvement was observed in every tooth. According to gender and age, PHP-M index for Tooth No. 26, 36 and 32 decreased significantly in men and women, and those aged under 30 and those aged 30 or over, but for Tooth No. 13 and 15 and 44 it decreased significantly only in men and those aged 30 or over, and for Tooth No. 44 only in men. As presented above, the oral health behavior and oral health consciousness of the visitors to the oral prophylaxis practice room are very important, and it is necessary to enhance their interest in and knowledge of how to improve oral health. • Objectives: This study was conducted to examine the effectiveness in oral health promotion through oral health education for freshmen students of the dental hygiene department. Methods: To verify its effectiveness, research was conducted on 74 freshmen of the dental hygiene department by the evaluation of DMFT index, PHP index, and Cariview test (2015-2016). Results: The analysis of the test results using Cariview equipment shows a categorization of low risk group consisting of 10 students (13.5%), middle risk group consisting of 47 students (63.5%), and a high risk group consisting of 17 students (22.9%). DT index according to the number of daily tooth brushing by <2 is DT index average score higher and in such a case, statistics are considered meaningful (p<0.01). Oral health state at DMFT index of low risk group according to Cariview risk group for an analysis is lower than both the middle risk group and the high risk group (p<0.001). Conclusions: A review of the effect of the promotion of oral health through oral health education on the behavior change rather than of Cariview test and value of dental plaque through tooth brushing method was conducted.

Index, unsatisfactory crowned teeth (2.22) showed statistically significant increment compare to the controlled teeth (0.70) (P<0 01). 3. In Oral Hygiene Index, satisfactory crowned teeth (1.49) showed statistically nonsignificant increment compare to the controlled teeth (1.27). 4. In Oral Hygiene Index, unsatisfactory crowned teeth (1.62) showed statistically nonsignicant increment compare to the controlled (1.39) 5. The severity of gingivitis following Oral Hygiene Index showed higher in crowed teeth than the controlled teeth. 6. The severity of giginvitis showed the highest in the unsatisfactory crowned teeth, the next was the satisfactory crowned teeth, and the controlled teeth showed the lowest.

Results. As a result of an examination of the PHP index(Patient Hygiene Performance index) ac- cording to smoking and drinking behavior, the amount of alcohol drunk was statistically higher than that of 'soju that was not drunk'(P<0.05). As a result of the PHP index (Patient Hygiene Performance index) according to dietary behavior, 'vegetarians' were statistically higher than 'Carnivorous oriented' individuals (P<0.05). Moreover, individuals who regularly 'drank almost no water' were statistically significantly higher than those who 'drank water steadily'.(P<0.05). Conclusion. • Objectives : The purpose of the study is to investigate the relationship between variables associated with oral health status in psychiatric patients and to provide basic information on oral health education program development for the psychiatric patients. Methods : Subjects were 151 psychiatric patients who filled out the structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed for independent t-test, one-way ANOVA and hierarchical multiple regression by using SPSS Win Program 18.0 version. Results : Higher DMFT index was shown in the older age(p<0.001) and low perceived oral health group(p<0.001). Higher DMFT index included no tooth brushing after breakfast(p=0.045), wrong tooth brushing method(p<0.001). Chewing discomfort(p=0.027) and denture(p=0.027) were closely related to higher DMFT index. Bread(p=0.033) and snack(p<0.001) increased DMFT index. Factors affecting oral health status were age, denture, snack and bread. The explanation power of the final model was 29.4%. Conclusions : Dietary control for the psychiatric patients is very important to prevent dental caries. Tooth brushing and use of oral hygiene devices can improve good oral health care. Furthermore, this result can improve the oral health care for the disabled people.

The decayed teeth index and decayed teeth rate of the mentally retarded people were respectively 13.48 and 48.13 percent, which were above the average. 3. The decayed surface index and decayed surface rate of the mentally retarded people were respectively 27.17 and 17.39 percent. 4. The simplified debris index of the mentally retarded people significantly varied with gender(p<.01), and missing teeth index(p<.05) and missing surface index differed significantly with age. Filled surface index was significantly different according to the region. Conclusion : The findings of the study illustrated that their indexes related dental caries experience were high. In order to promote the oral health of the disabled with mental retardation, prolonged research should be implemented, and a dental checkup should be carried out on a regular basis by specialists. Preventive care and early treatment should be provided, and the development of customized oral health education programs tailored to different sorts of disabilities and oral health control methods is required.
