This study set out to identify the factors to affect the oral health promotion behavior of elementary school students and to provide a framework to develop educational programs to promote their oral health promotion behavior. A survey was conducted to 729 fifth and sixth graders attending four elementary schools in Seoul. The variables were measured with a five-point Likert scale and include previous oral health related behaviors, perceived oral health status, perceived benefit, perceived barriers, self-esteem, self-efficacy, and oral health promotion behavior. First, the subjects scored relatively high 3.51 points out of 5 in oral health promotion behavior. They also scored 3.88 points in perceived benefit, 3.51 in selfesteem, 3.43 in self-efficacy, 3.28 in perceived oral health status, 2.77 in previous oral health related behaviors, and 1.79 in perceived barriers. Second, a significant difference was observed according to gender in previous oral health related behaviors and oral health promotion behavior. And a significant difference was also found according to grade in previous oral health related behaviors, perceived benefit, perceived barriers, selfesteem, self-efficacy, and oral health promotion behavior. Third, when they had an experience of visiting a dental clinic for preventive purposes, a significant difference was found according to the purposes of going to a dentist in previous oral health related behaviors, perceived benefit, and oral health promotion behavior. And fourth, multiple regression analysis was carried out with oral health promotion behavior as a dependent variable. As a result, all the research variables, which include previous oral health related behaviors, perceived oral health status, perceived benefit, perceived barriers, self-esteem, and self-efficacy, turned out to have significant influences on oral health promotion behavior. And their explanatory power was 49%. Conclusion: Those factors that were identified to affect the oral health promotion behavior of programs to promote their oral health.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the awareness-perception factors and oral health promotion behavior of dental hygiene and nonhealth-related students in an effort to find out factors affecting their oral health promotion behavior. Methods : The subjects in this study were students in the three-year-course dental hygiene and students in the two-year-course nonhealth-related department in G college located in the city of Gwangju. After a survey was conducted, the collected data were analyzed and compared. Results : 1. The dental hygiene students were statistically significantly ahead of the nonhealth-related students in perceived oral health knowledge(p<0.001), awareness of the importance of oral health(p<0.001), perceived oral health status(p<0.001) and oral health interest(p<0.001). 2. Concerning the characteristics of oral health promotion behavior, the dental hygiene students were statistically significantly better at toothbrushing(p<0.001) and the use of dental floss(p<0.001) than the nonhealth-related students. 3. Regarding factors affecting oral health promotion behavior, oral health knowledge and oral health interest were identified as the factors that impacted on oral health promotion behavior. Out of the two, oral health interest exercised a greater influence on that. Conclusions : It seems that oral health education could motivate students to be concerned about their oral health, to acquire knowledge on that and eventually to change their oral health behavior and attitude. As for college students, oral health education provides a final chance for them to check their oral health knowledge, attitude and oral health promotion behavior before they start to work as full-fledged adults, and institutional measures should be taken to offer more intensive official oral health education.
Objectives : This study has attempted to investigate subjective oral health awareness, oral health behavior and analyze how the results are correlated with oral health-related quality of life against middle school students. Methods : A self-administered questionnaire survey was performed against 552 students from three middle schools in Changwon. A frequent analysis was conducted on research subjects' general characteristics, oral health awareness, oral health behavior. In addition, t-test and ANOVA were carried out to analyze oral health-related quality of life by the general characteristics, oral health awareness and oral health behavior. Results : In terms of oral health-related quality of life by general characteristics, the quality of life on oral symptoms was higher at lower school grades (p<0.05). In terms of social welfare, oral health-related quality of life was higher as parents' monthly income increased (p<0.05). Oral health-related quality of life was high in oral symptoms when there was no interest in oral health, in functional limitation, emotional welfare and social welfare when there is some oral health-related knowledge (p<0.05) and in all sub categories when oral conditions are healthy (p<0.05). Conclusions : The results of this study has come up with important information for improvement of oral health-related quality of life in middle school students by investigating the correlations between oral health awareness and oral health-related quality of life.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of oral health behavior factors to oral health promotion behavior in dental hygiene students and nonhealth-related majors, to identify factors affecting their oral health promotion behavior and ultimately to provide information on the oral health promotion of college students and behavioral factors related to that. Methods : The subjects in this study were three-year-course dental hygiene students and two-year-course nonhealth-related majors in G college located in the city of Gwangju. A self-administered survey was conducted for 11 days from September 9 to 19, 2009, and the answer sheets from 473 respondents were analyzed. To look for connections between their major and the characteristics of their oral health promotion behavior, t-test was utilized, and t-test and one-way ANOVA were carried out to find out the relationship oral health promotion behavior by general characteristics. Besides, multiple regression analysis was employed to grasp factors affecting oral health promotion behavior. Results : Among the subfactors of oral health promotion behavior, the dental hygiene students statistically significantly outdid the nonhealth-related majors in thorough post-meal toothbrushing(p<0.01), toothbrushing method(p<0.001), use of fluorine-containing dentifrice(p<0.001) and good nutrition(p<0.05). But the latter statistically significantly outperformed the former in use of fluorine-containing rinse(p<0.001) and limited sugar intake(0<0.05). Regarding variables affecting oral health promotion behavior, the age group, whether to get a dental checkup over the last year and whether to use oral hygiene supplies were identified as the variables to impact on oral health promotion behavior. Specifically, the age group(dental hygiene students) and the get a dental checkup over the last year(nonhealth-related majors) had a greater impact. Conclusions : To promote the oral health of college students, comprehensive oral health education should be provided, which covers the importance of dental checkup, recommendation for the use of oral hygiene supplies, etc. Specifically, oral health education should be offered as one of general education courses in order for nonhealth-related majors to get into sound life habits and improve their oral health promotion behavior. To make it happen, required institutional measures should be taken.
본 연구는 성인의 주관적 구강 건강상태와 건강 실천행위가 구강 건강 관련 자기효능감에 미치는 영향을 파악하고자 부산광역시에 거주하는 성인을 대상으로 설문 조사를 시행한 후, SPSS 21.0 프로그램을 사용하여 분석하였다. 주관적 구강 건강 상태가 좋을수록 칫솔질 관련 자기효능감(p<.001)과 구강 건강관리 자기효능감(p<.01)이 유의하게 높게 나타났고, 건강 실천 행위를 이행할수록 칫솔질 관련 자기효능감(p<.001)과 구강 건강관리 자기효능감(p<.001)이 유의하게 높게 나타났다. 주관적 구강 건강상태가 좋을수록 구강 건강 관련 자기효능감에 긍정적 영향을 미치며(p<.001), 운동, 건강 책임이행, 흡연 순으로 건강 실천 행위를 이행할수록 구강 건강 관련 자기효능감에 긍정적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다(p<.05). 따라서 전신건강과 구강건강의 상호 융합적 계속 구강 보건 프로그램 개발의 기초 자료로 활용되어 성인의 포괄적 건강 및 구강건강 증진에 기여하고자한다.

Objective: The university students of the four universities located in the Gyeongbuk province district were studied to confirm the correlation between smartphone addiction and oral health behavior. Methods: The target audience was a total of 587 people, and from April 18, 2017 until June 10, 2017, collected data using individual questionnaire methods and analyzed using the IBM SPSS WIN 24.0 program. Results: Smartphone addiction was high in health related major, and oral health behaviors were high in non health related major. And the first grade students who smoke and drinking showed a high correlation between smartphone addiction and oral health behavior. Conclusion: It is possible to confirm the correlation between smartphone addiction of university students and oral health behaviors, and the smartphone guideline and appropriate oral health education program are required.
Objectives: The purpose of the study was to investigate the associated factors with oral health behavior in public health majoring students. Methods: Using convenience sampling method, the subjects were 474 health-related majoring students in Jeollanamdo. A self-reported questionnaire was completed from September 1 to 15, 2014. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects, oral health related characteristics, oral health knowledge and behavior. Data were analyzed using SAS 9.3 version. T-test, ANOVA, correlation and multiple linear regression analyses were performed to evaluate the related factors with oral health behavior. Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ in oral health knowledge in this study was 0.52 and that in oral health behavior was 0.80. Results: The overall score of oral health behavior was $3.38{\pm}0.52$. Of all behaviors, the practice in brush of teeth and tongue had the highest mean score. In multiple regression analysis, oral health knowledge in the nursing and dental hygiene students was positively associated with the oral health behavior(${\beta}=0.04$, p=0.003, ${\beta}=0.23$, p=0.003, and ${\beta}=0.18$, p=0.034, respectively). Necessity of dental care, one of oral symptom, and more than two oral symptoms were negatively associated with oral health behavior(${\beta}=-0.14$, p=0.002, ${\beta}=-0.11$, p=0.037, and ${\beta}=-0.17$, p=0.011, respectively). Conclusions: Higher oral health knowledge showed higher levels of oral health behavior. These results will enhance the quality of oral health behavior by increasing the level of oral health knowledge. The optimal oral health education program would be able to improve oral health behavior by increasing the level of oral health knowledge.
Purpose : The college student period is pivotal for establishing oral health management behaviors and habits that persist in adulthood; it is necessary to develop the correct behaviors. Appearance management behavior not only involves the management of an individual's appearance but also ensures a healthy quality of life. Additionally, it is related to health and oral health behavior. The purpose of this study was to determine how college students' appearance management behavior affects their oral health management behavior and to provide basic data for developing policies appropriate for the lifestyle of college students. Methods : A self-administered questionnaire was completed by 450 university students in Gyeonggi, Choung-nam, Daejeon on April 27, 2022. The survey comprised 5 questions about general characteristics, 18 about appearance management behavior, and 8 about oral health behavior. The sum of the practice questions were calculated, with higher scores indicating better oral health behavior. Results : The oral health management behavior exhibited was generally high. Notably, the health-related group (61.2 %) demonstrated significantly higher levels of clothing management (60.5 %), makeup management (56.6 %), and skincare (56.6 %) behaviors, whereas body management behavior (61.2 %) was deemed 'normal' (p<.05). The results of the stepwise multiple regression analysis examining the impact of appearance management behavior on oral health management indicated that clothing management (β=0.17) and skincare behaviors (β=0.12) were influential factors. Among these, clothing management behavior was the most influential. Conclusion : To promote oral health practices among college students, this study incorporated factors related to appearance management into oral health education to increase participation and interest. We intend our findings to serve as foundational data for developing oral health education programs that integrate elements of appearance management.
Purpose : This study examined the relationship between oral health management behavior and subjective health perception by using a tool that measures health-related quality of life named EQ-5D. The findings are expected to provide fundamental data for developing diverse programs, including health- and oral-health-related educational media, to ultimately enhance people's health-related quality of life. Methods : Adults over the age of 20 were extracted from the raw materials of the 8th national health and nutrition examination survey conducted in 2019. Among them, 4034 were finally chosen as the study subjects after checking the response distribution of relevant questions and excluding inadequate samples. Variables included general characteristics, health management behavior, oral health management behavior, subjective health perception, and EQ-5D level. Cross-tabulation test, independent t-test, one-way analysis of variance, and linear regression analysis were conducted using SPSS 25.0. Results : EQ-5D, which measures the level of health-related quality of life, was high when the subjects had a medical check-up experience, no experience of unsatisfactory medical service, and did not get an influenza vaccination (p<.001). The quality of life was higher when the subjects received dental inspections, did not require treatment, and used oral care goods (p<.005). Health-related quality of life was also higher when the subjective health level and subjective oral health level were high. Conclusion : Results indicate that subjective health, oral health perception level, and quality of life together were high when people had a regular check-up, did not neglect treatment, and used oral care goods. Considering the findings of this study, check-up programs that are customized for each age group are necessary. Health-related quality of life could be enhanced through the provision of diverse medical services and active efforts to prevent any medical blind spot.
This study identifies oral health behavior factors related to the health-related quality of life(EQ-5D) of adults. Three groups are analyzed, young adults(aged 19 to 39 years old), middle-aged(40 to 64 years old), and elderly(over 65 years old). By comparing the factors related to health-related quality of life by age, we will provide information for improving the overall quality of life, including oral health for current and future elderly. Using raw data from the 1st year(2016) of the National Health and Nutrition Survey, the oral health behaviors of the study subjects were compared. These included: the number of times teeth were brushed, the time brushing took place, the use of interdental care products, and whether they went for oral and examinations. There was a statistical significance in treatment experience and drinking habits. There was also a significant influence on the health-related quality of life across the age groups. Therefore, it is possible to improve the health-related quality of life, including oral health practices according to age. It will be necessary to develop and apply.
