This study conducted an interview questionnaire survey of 245 old people in some halls for the aged in the Daejeon Metropolitan City from June 1 to 31, 2008. on their attitudes toward and practice items for oral health, resulting in the following findings. 1. In terms of socio-demographic characteristics of the subjects, males females were 48.2% and 51.8% respectively, and in the educational level, no-education, elementary school graduation, middle school graduation, and high school graduation and higher were 27.8%, 33.9%, 26.5%, and 11.8%, respectively, showing the statistically significant difference (p=0.009). 2. In terms of attitudes toward oral health management by oral health care education, regarding questions of use of oral and dental hygiene products (p=0.016), experience in scaling, and whether or not they wear false teeth (p=0.018), a group having received the education rather than a group not having received it showed more positive oral health management attitudes, indicating the statistically significant difference. 3. In daily living inconvenience of acute oral health diseases according to oral health care education, acute oral diseases presents in a group with the education ($2.30{\pm}0.72$) lower than in a group without the education ($2.49{\pm}0.63$), indicating the statistically significant difference(p=0.031). 4. Factors of oral health diseases showed the significant relation with types of health insurance, subjective systemic health status, acute diseases and subjective oral health status (p<0.01), and the explanatory power or the final model was 38%. Accordingly it is thought that there is the indicated need for analyzing and grasping factors related to oral health diseases among the elderly through considering their attitudes toward and practice for oral health, and developing programs of enhancing the oral health of the elderly in order for them to change their attitudes and habits, and also reinforcing oral health care education for the elderly focused on making them perform oral health behaviors in a right way.
Objectives: This study examined the factors affecting the quality of life relating to oral health using OHIP-14 of college students. Also, this was to help college students to enhance their oral health. Methods: A Total of 334 self-administered questionnaires were collected from university student in Cheon-an. The statistical methods used for data analysis were the descriptive statistics, Independent samples t-test, One-way ANOVA, correlation analysis, multiple linear regression analysis. Results: First, A month pocket money and coffee consumption were significantly related to functional and physical Oral health foctor. Second, A month pocket money and coffee consumption were significantly related to Mental and social Oral health foctor. Finally, multiple linear regression analysis showed that a month pocket money, coffee consumption have a negative effect on the quality of life relating to oral health, Whereas an experience of oral health education a positive effect on this. Conclusion: Oral health related quality of life should be improved by investigating the factors affecting oral health and thus developing the program enhancing the oral health to prevent oral disease. In addition, in order to health promotion physical, mental, social, including the oral health, program development and research incessant must be carried out.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the general characteristics, oral health risk factors, and denture management behaviors of the elderly and improve their oral health and life satisfaction. Methods: This study was conducted on 386 individuals from elderly welfare facilities in Gyeonggi-do selected by convenience sampling. Results: The female participants were more satisfied with their family relationship than the male participants. Among the risk factors for oral health, life satisfaction was higher among the participants who had no psychological inconvenience and bad breath symptoms. Among the factors for denture management behavior, the participants who did not receive dental checkups regularly expressed greater life satisfaction than those who had not received denture care education. Conclusions: The practical and theoretical implications for elderly welfare programs and oral health management education for denture-wearing elderly were discussed.
Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the degree of dry mouth and oral health-related quality of life and to identify factors contributing to oral health-related quality of life for community-dwelling elders. Methods: A descriptive correlational study design was used. Participants were 156 older adults from two senior welfare centers. Data were collected on February 21, 22 and 29, 30, 2009 using structured questionnaires. Enter type multiple regression analysis was used to identify factors influencing oral health-related quality of life according to general and oral health characteristics. Results: There were significant differences in oral health-related quality of life according to living arrangement, insurance, smoking, number of natural teeth, and denture type. The oral health-related quality of life had significant correlations with the number of chronic disease, number of medications, and dry mouth. Factors influencing oral health-related quality of life for community-dwelling older adults were dry mouth, number of chronic disease, and medical aid, which explained about 47.9% of total variance. Conclusion: These results indicate that in order to promote oral health-related quality of life for older adults, prevention or management of chronic diseases as well as oral health and dry mouth are needed for this population, and especially economically poor elders.
Objectives : This study sought to identify the predisposing factors which influence the adolescent oral health enhancement behavior by analyzing controlling effects depending on the parents' oral health care behaviors in the relationship between the predisposing factors and adolescent behavior improvements which enhance oral health. Methods : A structured, self-administered questionnaire was given from July 6 through July 24, 2016. The collected data were analyzed with the SPSS 18.0 program. Results : Parents' oral health behaviors in terms of discipline and guidance showed a controlling effect in terms of importance (${\beta}$=.116) and benefits (${\beta}$=.133). In addition, the analysis showed that the parents' oral health care behavior had a controlling effect in terms of benefits (${\beta}$=.164) and susceptibility (${\beta}$=-.116). Conclusions : From the results of this study, the development of materials and education courses to lead to behavior changes are thought to be necessary in order to enhance the importance and benefits of the factors of oral health beliefs and to reduce psychological discomfort. Moreover, the role of parents with regard to desirable habits and beliefs to maintain oral health in their children is essential.
This study set out to identify the factors to affect the oral health promotion behavior of elementary school students and to provide a framework to develop educational programs to promote their oral health promotion behavior. A survey was conducted to 729 fifth and sixth graders attending four elementary schools in Seoul. The variables were measured with a five-point Likert scale and include previous oral health related behaviors, perceived oral health status, perceived benefit, perceived barriers, self-esteem, self-efficacy, and oral health promotion behavior. First, the subjects scored relatively high 3.51 points out of 5 in oral health promotion behavior. They also scored 3.88 points in perceived benefit, 3.51 in selfesteem, 3.43 in self-efficacy, 3.28 in perceived oral health status, 2.77 in previous oral health related behaviors, and 1.79 in perceived barriers. Second, a significant difference was observed according to gender in previous oral health related behaviors and oral health promotion behavior. And a significant difference was also found according to grade in previous oral health related behaviors, perceived benefit, perceived barriers, selfesteem, self-efficacy, and oral health promotion behavior. Third, when they had an experience of visiting a dental clinic for preventive purposes, a significant difference was found according to the purposes of going to a dentist in previous oral health related behaviors, perceived benefit, and oral health promotion behavior. And fourth, multiple regression analysis was carried out with oral health promotion behavior as a dependent variable. As a result, all the research variables, which include previous oral health related behaviors, perceived oral health status, perceived benefit, perceived barriers, self-esteem, and self-efficacy, turned out to have significant influences on oral health promotion behavior. And their explanatory power was 49%. Conclusion: Those factors that were identified to affect the oral health promotion behavior of programs to promote their oral health.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was related factors of oral health of scaling patients in dental hygiene department. Methods: The sample consisted of 218 at the scaling practice room of dental hygiene department in D College from March to November 2011. Chi-square test was used to analyze the relation the oral health behavior or oral hygiene and oral health, and losistic regression analysis was performed to analyze the factors asociated with oral health. Results: Scaling patients was 43.6% of the male and 56.4% of the women. Their age group was 79.8% of the twenty. Lately they was smoking status 69.7%. Brushing three times a day, 55.8% in male and female were 74.0% with significant differences(p=0.019). Kind of toothbrush "normal" the response was the highest, 45.3% male, 62.6% women were significantly higher in women(p=0.012). Toothbrushing educational experienced 33.7% men, women's educational experience rate of 52.8% was significantly higher(p=0.006), use of oral hygiene products education experienced 15.8% of the men and women 27.6% had significant difference(p=0.049). Scaling experience is not in the Dental plaque index the number of "bad" was significantly higher(p=0.035), toothbrushing educational experience is not in the Dental plaque index the number of "bad" and significantly higher(p=0.008) and Gingival bleeding index was significantly higher(p=0.033). Objectives: The purpose of the study is to investigate the oral health and oral health beliefs in industrial workers and to analyze the influencing factors on dental health care utilization. Methods: The subjects were 280 adults from 16 to 64 years old in Seoul and Gyeonggi from June 20 to July 31, 2014, A self-reported questionnaire was completed after receiving informed consent. The independent variables consisted of predisposing, enabling, and need factors. The predisposing factors included gender, age, residence area, number of family. The enabling variables included monthly income, education, occupation, type of employment. The need factors included subjective oral health recognition and oral health belief model. These three variables had a direct and indirect influence on dental clinic use. The types of occupation were classified into desk duties, merchandizing and service duties technology and others by KSCO-6. Results: The relating factors to dental health care utilization were sex, oral health beliefs perceived benefits, perceived barriers, and self-efficacy. Female tended to have the higher oral health beliefs perceived benefits, perceived barriers(p<0.01), self-efficacy(p<0.05). Conclusions: Those who received frequent oral examination and health instruction tended to have a favorable impact on maintenance of oral health status and improvement in quality of life.
Purpose. A huge proportion of adults in korea, workers chronic disease risk factors have been growing every year, these are closely related to oral health. thus, through the study of the relationship between workers oral health behavior and chronic disease risk factors. Methods. The subjects were 4,600 workers volunteering at the oral health education program part of the industrial health education of some area work places. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, chi-square test, Rogistic regression analysis. Results. The results of chronic disease risk factor according to oral health practice behaviors show that currently drinking and smoking, not visiting to the dentist for last year, fewer toothbrushing were associated with chronic disease risk factors. This result was statistically significant as well.(p<0.05). Risk factors influencing chronic disease were gender, age, job period, dental clinic visiting, the number of toothbrushing, perceived oral health state, smoking, and drinking, these were statistically significant as well(p<0.05). Conclusions. Chronic disease that could threaten workers health was related with the oral health practice behavior. Therefore through factors identification affecting general health and oral health, dental care providers aims to increase workers awareness of health care behavior and lifestyle and to suggest periodical health education promotion program for high risk workers who exposed to risk factors of disease within workplace.
본 연구는 주관적 구강건강상태와 구강건강행태 요인들의 기여도에 대한 사회경제적 변화를 조사하였다. 연구자료는 2015년 국민건강영양조사 자료를 이용하였으며, 이분형 로지스틱 회귀분석을 이용하였다. 연구결과 주관적 구강건강상태는 사회경제적 수준이 낮은 경우에서 낮게 나타났다. 이러한 연관성은 인구사회학적 요인들과 구강건강행태를 보정했을 때 연관성은 증가하였다. 또한 각각의 구강 건강 행태요인들을 보정했을 때, 흡연, 칫솔질횟수, 구강위생용품사용, 그리고 구강검진은 사회경제적 구강건강상태의 많은 부분을 설명하였다. 주관적 구강불건강은 사회경제적 상태에서 비롯되지만 이런 차이는 구강건강행태 요인들에 따라 증가되었다. 따라서, 본 연구결과에서 주관적 구강건강상태에서의 사회경제적 불평등은 구강건강증진 행태에 따라 더욱 효과적으로 교정될 수 있음을 시사한다고 볼 수 있다.
