Performance Improvement of the Linear BLDC Generator in a NASA Deep Space Explorer

  • This paper presents methods to improve performance of the power supply system in a NASA deep space explorer. In the Stirling engine driven reciprocating Brushless DC (BLDC) generator, the accurate position information of the prime mover is important to diagnose the performance of the engine and prevent distortion of the output power. Since sensors to detect the position are fragile and unreliable, and conventional sensorless techniques have drawbacks in the low speed region, a novel sensorless position detection technique for the prime mover has been proposed and verified. Another major issue of the generator for the spacecraft is power density maximization. The mass of the power system is important to the mass of the satellite. Therefore, the components of the spacecraft should be lightweight. Conventional rectification methods cannot achieve the maximum power possible due to non-optimal current waveforms. The optimal current waveform for maximizing power density and minimizing machine size and weight in a nonsinusoidal power supply system has been derived, incorporated in a control system, and verified by simulation work.

  • One of the most important feature of the Mobile Manipulator is redundant freedom. Using the redundant freedom, Mobile Manipulator can move various mode, perform dexterous motion. In this paper, to improve robot job ability, as two robots perform a job in co-operation control, we studied optimal position and posture of Mobile Manipulator with minimum movement of each robot joint. Kinematics of mobile robot and task robot is solved. Using mobility of Mobile robot, weight vector of robots is determined. Using Gradient methode, global motion trajectory is minimized. so the job which Mobile Manipulator perform is optimized. The proposed algorithm is verified with PURL-II which is Mobile Manipulator combined Mobile robot and task robot. and discussed the result.

  • In this study, a multivariate function was applied to the genetic algorithm for D-type lugs currently used in shipyards to closely analyze the behavioral form of weight loss without double plates. An optimal lifting lug structure design without attachments is proposed. MATLAB R2016a was used to design features by applying multivariate functions to genetic algorithms. Furthermore, the design was achieved by deriving the optimal shapes of lugs using genetic algorithms. The shapes of the designed lugs were validated for structural bonding using the structural analysis program ANSYS 2020 R2, and a robust design of lugs with no appendages was developed.

  • Because of the environmental problems, automotive companies are trying to reduce the weight of car body. Therefore, TRIP(TRansformation Induced Plasticity) steels, which have high strength and ductility have been developed. Welding process is a complex process; therefore deciding the optimal welding conditions on the basis of experimental data is an effective method. However, trial-and-error method to decide the optimal conditions requires too many experiments. To overcome these problems, response surface methodology was used. Response surface methodology is a collection of mathematical and statistical techniques that are used in the modeling and analysis of problems in which a response of interest is influenced by several variables and the objective is to optimize this response. This method was applied to the resistance spot welding process of the TRIP steel to optimize the welding parameters.

신경회로망을 이용한 적응 고차조화제어 기법 연구 (Study on Adaptive Higher Harmonic Control Using Neural Networks)

  • 본 논문에서는 광범위한 함수 근사성질을 갖고 있는 신경회로망을 이용하여, 시스템의 입출력 조화성분의 선형관계를 표현하기 위해 추정된 전달행렬의 적용범위를 확장할 수 있는 적응 고차조화제어(Higher Harmonic Control, HHC) 기법을 제안하고 있다. 신경회로망의 학습신호는 추정된 전달행렬을 기반으로 계산된 최적제어 이득 값 행렬을 이용하여 구성된다. 내부 안정성을 보장하기 위하여 신경회로망의 가중치 학습방법은 Lyapunov 직접 방법을 이용하여 유도하였다. 6개의 입력과 2개의 출력을 갖는 비선형 시스템에 대한 시뮬레이션 결과를 통해 적응 고차조화제어 기법이 불확실한 전달행렬에 적용 가능함을 보였다.

  • 위성 편대 비행 시 주위성과 부위성 간의 연료 소비 균형을 고려한 임펄스 기동에 관한 연구를 수행하였다. 위성 간 사용가능한 연료량을 비교하여 가중치(weight)를 두고 가격함수(cost function)를 설계하여 라그랑지 승수법을 통해 필요한 임펄스를 획득하였다. 상대궤도 발산 방지를 위해 에너지 매칭 기법을 사용하였고, 임펄스 기동 후 상대 거리 구속이 이루어짐을 시뮬레이션을 통해 확인하였다. 시뮬레이션은 지구 중력 외의 외란이 없는 경우와 대기 항력이 외란으로 존재하는 상황으로 시나리오를 나누어 수행하였다. 본 논문 결과는 이후 실제로 위성을 편대로 사용한 위성 군집 비행 시, 상대 궤도 구속 요건을 만족하고 각 위성의 연료량을 비교한 임펄스 기동이 요구될 때 사용가능할 것으로 기대된다.

최소자승법을 이용한 준설토 문제의 System Identification (System Identification on Dredged Soil Problems using Least Square Method)

  • This paper is a research about system identification which optimizes uncertain geothechnical properties from the data measured during geotechnical design and construction. Various numerical optimization algorithms of Simplex method, Powell method, Rosenbrock method and Levenberg-Marquardt method were applied to the excavation problem to determine which method showed the best results with respect to robustness of success in finding an optimal solution to within a certain accuracy and number of function evaluations. From the results of numerical analysis, all of four algorithms are converged to exact solution after satisfying the allowed criteria, and Levenberg-Marquardt's algorithms was identified to be the most efficient method in number of function evaluations. System identification was applied to geotechnical engineering problems, possibly being occurred in field, to verify its applicability : estimation of settlement due to self-weight consolidation in dredged and filled soil. For self-weight consolidational settlement of a dredged soil, a program of evaluating the constitutive relationship of effective stress-void ratio-permeability was developed by using the technique of system identification. Thus, consolidational characteristics of a dredged soil, having a very high initial void ratio, can be evaluated.

파워스티어링 오일펌프용 풀리의 피로수명을 고려한 형상최적화 (Shape Optimization Considering Fatigue Life of Pulley in Power-Steering Pulley)

  • The pulley is one of core mechanical elements in the power steering system for vehicles. The pulley operates under both the compressive loading and the torque. Therefore, to assure the safety of the power steering system, it is very important to investigate the durability and the optimization of the pulley. In this study, the applied stress distribution of the pulley under high tension and torsion loads was obtained by using finite element analysis. Based on these results the fatigue life of the pulley with the variation of the fatigue strength was evaluated by a durability analysis simulator. The results at 50% and 1% for the failure probability were compared with respect to the fatigue life. In addition to the optimum design for the fatigue life is obtained by the response surface method. The response function utilizes the function of the life and weight factors. Within range for design life condition the minimization of the weight, one of the formulation, is obtained by the optimal design. Moreover the optimum design by considering its durability and validity is verified by the durability test.

  • Geneal Structure optimization is utilized to minimize the weight of structures while satisfying constraints imposed on stress, displacements and natural frequencies, etc. Sandwich structures consist of inside core and outside face sheets. The selected sandwich structures are isotropic sandwich beams and isotropic sandwich plate. The face sheets are treated as membrane and assumed to carry only tensions, while the core is assumed to carry only transverse shear. The characteristic of the varying area are considered by adding the projected component of the tension to the transverse shear. The bending theory and energy method are adopted for analyzing sandwich beams and plates, respectively. In the optimization process, the cost function is the weight of a structure, and a deflection and stress constraints are considered. Design variable are thickness and tapering coefficients which determine the shape of a structure. An existing optimization code is used for solving the formulated problems.

  • The main objective of this paper is to propose the optimal design method of welded plate girder bridges using genetic algorithm. The objective function considered is the total weight of the welded plate girder. The behavior and design constraints are formulated based on the Korean Railroad Bridge Design Code and DIC Code. Continuous design variables are used to define the cross-sectional dimensions of the member. The GAs (genetic algorithm) is used to solve the nonlinear programming problem. Several examples of minimum weight design are solved to illustrate the applicability of the proposed minimization algorithm. From the results of application examples, the optimum design of welded plate girder is successfully accomplished. Therefore, the proposed algorithm in this paper may be used efficiently and generally for the optimum design of welded plate girders.
