A Study on Improving Lecture Satisfaction using Taguchi Method (다구찌 기법을 적용한 강의만족도 향상 사례 연구)

  • Purpose: This article introduces a case study of using Taguchi Method to improve lecture satisfaction. Developed by Taguchi Genichi, this method has its strength in finding the control factor that is robust against noise factor. Finding the condition for such control factor has an effect of reducing the dispersion of the Lecture satisfaction. Methods: There are various factors in university classrooms. The factors which influenced the Lecture Satisfaction are analyzed by control factors and noise factors, control factors which is controllable are lecture completeness and thoroughly test the degree of supervision and noise factors which is not controllable is degree of physical and psychological Lecturer tired, then the experiment is conducted as guided by Taguchi's experimental design, one semester are experimented by eight professor with 2 classes, after discussion of the results the optimal lecture condition is suggested. Results: To improve Lecture Satisfaction under noise factor of physical and psychological Lecturer tired, optimal condition are that lecture completeness have scenario note during lecture and thoroughly test the degree of supervision have two proctors during test. Conclusion: In this paper, we have succession case by applying Taguchi methods in Lecture Satisfaction. We can apply to improve service by applying the Taguchi methods. In the future we hope to have many succession cases.

Development of the Position Control Algorithm for Nonlinear Overhead Crane Systems (비선형 천장 크레인시스템의 위치제어 알고리즘 개발)

  • An overhead crane system which transports an object by girder motion, trolley motion, and hoist motion becomes a nonlinear system because the length of a rope changes. To develope the position control algorithm for the nonlinear crane systems, we apply a nonlinear optimal control method which uses forward and backward difference methods and obtain optimal inputs. This method is suitable for the overhead crane system which is characterized by the differential equation of higher degree and swing motion. From the results of computer simulation, it is founded that the position of the overhead crane system is controlled, and the swing of the object is suppressed.

  • This paper presents an advanced control technique for power density maximization of the Brushless DC (BLDC) generator by using the linear tracking method. In a generator of given rating, the weight and size of the system affect the fuel consumption directly. Therefore, power density is one of the most important issues in a stand-alone generator. BLDC generator has high power density in the machine point of view and additional increases of power density by control means can be expected. Conventional rectification methods cannot achieve the maximum power possible because of hon-optimal current waveforms. The optimal current waveform to maximize power density and minimize machine size and weight in a nonsinusoidal power supply system has been derived, incorporated in a control system, and verified by simulation and experimental work. A new simple algebraic method has been proposed to accomplish the proposed control without an FFT which is time consuming and complicated.

  • Two recent nonlinear control methods of nonlinear geometric method and nonlinear optimal control method are applied to a pH control system with severe nonlinear characteristics. Simulations and experiments show that their performances are very good and robust for various realistic situations such as model parameter mismatches.

  • In energy injection resonant AC-AC converters, due to the low frequency effect of the AC input envelope and the low energy injection losses requirement, the constant and steady control of the high frequency AC output envelope is still a problem that has not been solved very well. With the aid of system modeling, this paper analyzes the mechanism of the envelope pit on the resonant AC current. The computing methods for the critical damping point, the falling time and the bottom value of the envelope pit are presented as well. Furthermore, this paper concludes the stability precondition of the system AC output. Accordingly, an optimal control method for the AC output envelope is put forward based on the envelope prediction model. This control method can predict system responses dynamically under different series of control decisions. In addition, this control method can select best series of control decisions to make the AC output envelope stable and constant. Simulation and experimental results for a contactless power transfer system verify the control method.

Time delay study for semi-active control of coupled adjacent structures using MR damper

  • The pounding phenomenon in adjacent structures happens in severing earthquakes that can cause great damages. Connecting neighboring structures with active and semi-active control devices is an effective method to avoid mutual colliding between neighboring buildings. One of the most important issues in control systems is applying online control force. There will be a time delay if the prose of producing control force does not perform on time. This paper proposed a time-delay compensation method in coupled structures control, with semi-active Magnetorheological (MR) damper. This method based on Newmark's integration is adopted to mitigate the time-delay effect. In this study, Lyapunov's direct approach is employed to compute demanded voltage for MR dampers. Using Lyapunov's direct algorithm guarantees the system stability to design a controller based on feedback. Because of the strong nonlinearity of MR dampers, the equation of motion of coupled structures becomes an involved equation, and it is impossible to solve it with the common time step methods. In present paper modified Newmark-Beta integration based on the instantaneous optimal control algorithm, used to solve the involved equation. In this method, the response of a coupled system estimated base on optimal control force. Two MDOF structures with different degrees of freedom are finally considered as a numeric example. The numerical results show, the Newmark compensation is an efficient method to decrease the negative effect of time delay in coupled systems; furthermore, instantaneous optimal control algorithm can estimate the response of structures suitable.

  • This paper presents exhaustive review of various methods/techniques for coordinated control between FACTS controllers in multi-machine power systems. It also reviews various techniques/methods for optimal choice and allocation of FACTS controllers. Authors strongly believe that this survey article will be very much useful to the researchers for finding out the relevant references in the field of placement and coordination of FACTS Controllers.

A Study on the Improvement of Control System Performance of Drum Boiler (드럼보일러의 제어성 개선에 관한 연구)

  • The control system of a drum boiler is very complex since the evaporization process in the boiler is a multivariable system which is affected one another. This study is concerned with the dynamic characteristics of the boiler process and improving methods of performance of a drum boiler control system. The PID control with feedforward of disturbances and the optimal regulator are compared, and the effects of control parameters on the performance of a boiler control system are investigated. From simulation, it is found that profer adjustment of control parameters significant improvement of response and that performance of a optimal regulated control system is better than that of a conventional PID control system.

Finite Alphabet Control and Estimation

  • In many practical problems in signal processing and control, the signal values are often restricted to belong to a finite number of levels. These questions are generally referred to as "finite alphabet" problems. There are many applications of this class of problems including: on-off control, optimal audio quantization, design of finite impulse response filters having quantized coefficients, equalization of digital communication channels subject to intersymbol interference, and control over networked communication channels. This paper will explain how this diverse class of problems can be formulated as optimization problems having finite alphabet constraints. Methods for solving these problems will be described and it will be shown that a semi-closed form solution exists. Special cases of the result include well known practical algorithms such as optimal noise shaping quantizers in audio signal processing and decision feedback equalizers in digital communication. Associated stability questions will also be addressed and several real world applications will be presented.
