The increasing demand of the crops (soybean and corn) for biofuel production has increased the focus of the animal nutritionists to look for alternative feeds, which are economic and environmental friendly. To identify microalgae as suitable candidate as an alternative feed, growth response of Chlorella vulgaris was studied under varying concentrations of carbon dioxide (0.07, 1.4, 3.0 and 5.0%) and photon densities (39.19, 72.97, 105.41, 116.22, 135.14, $175.68\;{\mu}mol/m^2/s$) by employing a photo-bioreactor. Swine wastewater was also investigated as nutritional source to economize the biomass production. Results showed that the higher biomass production was found to be at 3.0% $CO_2$ compared to other $CO_2$ concentrations. However, no difference in biomass production was found at $105.41\;{\mu}mol/m^2/s$ and above photon densities with 12 h of photoperiodicity. It was observed that C. vulgaris could easily grow in 200 times diluted swine wastewater and growth was found to be similar with that of artificial medium. Provided the conducive conditions for optimal growth, it has also the potentiality of depleting ammonia nitrogen ($NH_4$-N) and orthophosphate ($PO_4^{3-}$-P) completely from the wastewater after 3~4 days of cultivation. Thus, growing C. vulgaris would not only solve the problem of animal feed, but also help in biological $CO_2$ mitigation and wastewater treatment.
We evaluated a more practical and cost-effective immobilization carriers for ethanol production using the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Three candidate materials-rice hull, rice straw, and sawdust-were tested for their cell-adsorption capacity and operational durability. Derivatizations of rice hull, rice straw, and sawdust with the optimal concentration of 0.5 M of 2-(diethylamino)ethyl chloride hydrochloride (DEAE HCl) resulted in > 95% adsorption of the initial yeast cells at 2 hr for DEAE-rice hull and DEAE-sawdust and in only approximately 80% adsorption for DEAE-rice straw. In addition, DEAE-sawdust was found to be a more practical carrier for immobilizing yeast cells in terms of operational durability in shaking flask cultures with two different speeds of 60 and 150 rpm. Furthermore, the biosorption isotherms of DEAE-rice hull, -rice straw, and -sawdust for yeast cells revealed that the $Q_{max}$ of DEAE-sawdust (82.6 mg/g) was greater than that of DEAE-rice hull and DEAE-rice straw. During the 404-hr of continuous column reactor operation using yeast cells immobilized on DEAE-sawdust, no serious detachment of the yeast cells from the DEAE-sawdust was recorded. Ethanol yield of approximately 3.04 g/L was produced steadily, and glucose was completely converted to ethanol at a yield of 0.375 g-ethanol/g-glucose (73.4% of the theoretical value). Thus, sawdust is a promising practical immobilization carrier for ethanol production, with significance in the production of bioethanol as a biofuel.
In this paper, we describe image mosaicing techniques for constructing a large high-resolution image with images taken by a video camera in hand. we propose the method which is automatically retrieving the exact matching area using color information and shape information. The proposed method extracts first candidate areas which have similar form using a Voronoi Distance Matching Method which is rapidly estimating the correspondent points between adjacent images, and calculating initial transformations of them and finds the final matching area using color information. It is a method that creates Voronoi Surface which set the distance value among feature points and other points on the basis of each feature point of a image, and extracts the correspondent points which minimize Voronoi Distance in matching area between an input image and a basic image using the binary search method. Using the Levenberg-Marquadt method we turn an initial transformation matrix to an optimal transformation matrix, and using this matrix combine a basic image with a input image.
This study develops an agent-based simulation model to evaluate tourist information systems under ubiquitous environment. In this study, individual tourist's activity chaining behavior is formulated as a utility maximization problem. The underlying assumption of the model is that tourists increase their activities within their time and budget constraints to maximize their utilities. The model seeks individual's optimal tour schedule by solving Prize-Collecting Multiple-Day Traveling Salesman Problem(PC MD TSP). The simulation-based evaluation framework allows investigating individual utility gains by their information type and the total expenditure at each tour attractions. The real-time tour activity scheduling system enables tourists to optimize their tour activities by minimizing their time loss and maximizing their opportunity to use high utility facilities.
The shortage of human organs for transplantation has induced the research on the possibility of using animal as porcine. However, pig to human transplantation as known as xeno-transplantation has major problem as immunorejection. Recently, the solutions of pig to human xenotransplantation are commonly mentioned as having a genetically modification which include alpha 1, 3 galatosyl transferase knockout (GTKO) and immune-suppressing gene transgenic model. Unfortunately, the expression level of transgenic gene is very low activity. Therefore, development of gene overexpression system is the most urgent issue. Also, the tissue specific overexpression system is very important. Because most blood vessels are endothelial cells, establishment of the endothelial-specific promoter is attractive candidates for the introduction of suppressing immunorejection. In this study, we focus the ICAM2 promoter which has endothelial-specific regulatory region. To detect the regulatory region of ICAM2 promoter, we cloned 3.7 kb size mini-pig ICAM2 promoter. We conduct serial deletion of 5' flanking region of mini-pig ICAM2 promoter then selected promoter size as 1 kb, 1.5 kb, 2 kb, 2.5 kb, and 3 kb. To analyze promoter activity, luciferase assay system was conducted among these vectors and compare endothelial activity with epithelial cells. The reporter gene assay revealed that ICAM2 promoter has critical activity in endothelial cells (CPAE) and 1 kb size of ICAM2 promoter activity was significantly increased. Taken together, our studies suggest that mini-pig ICMA2 promoter is endothelial cell specific overexpression promoter and among above all size of promoters, 1 kb size promoter is optimal candidate to overcome the vascular immunorejection in pig to human xenotransplantation.
This paper proposes a robust damper design technique for adjacent structures against model uncertainty. This approach introduces multi-objective optimization based system identification using measurement information which enables reasonable selection of the perturbation range in the robust design. Moreover, in order to improve the numerical efficiency in sampling the structural models required for the robust design of large structures, we define new objective functions which enable us to minimize the number of candidate models suitable to the purpose of the robust design. In addition, the performance index is newly employed to evaluate the robust performance of the sampled structural models, and the robust design has been performed according to the performance index. As a numerical example to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method, 5-story and 10-story two adjacent buildings are taken into account, and the existing and newly proposed robust design approaches are compared with each other. The results demonstrate that the proposed approach can guarantee more robust damper system only using small number of samples of the structural models because of using the measurement information which leads to improvement in the numerical efficiency, compared with the existing robust design methods.
A putative lipolytic enzyme gene, named as est9x, was obtained from a marine microbial metagenome of the South China Sea. Sequence analysis showed that Est9X shares lower than 27% sequence identities with the characterized lipolytic enzymes, but possesses a catalytic triad highly conserved in lipolytic enzymes of the ${\alpha}/{\beta}$ hydrolase superfamily. By phylogenetic tree construction, Est9X was grouped into a new lipase/esterase family. To understand Est9X protein in depth, it was recombinantly expressed, purified, and biochemically characterized. Within potential hydrolytic activities, only lipase/esterase activity was detected for Est9X, confirming its identity as a lipolytic enzyme. When using p-nitrophenol esters with varying lengths of fatty acid as substrates, Est9X exhibited the highest activity to the C2 substrate, indicating it is an esterase. The optimal activity of Est9X occurred at a temperature of $65^{\cric}C$, and Est9X was pretty stable below the optimum temperature. Distinguished from other salt-tolerant esterases, Est9X's activity was tolerant to and even promoted by as high as 4 M NaCl. Our results imply that Est9X is a unique esterase and could be a potential candidate for industrial application under extreme conditions.
The removal of toxic Cr(VI) by microorganisms is a promising approach for Cr(VI) pollution remediation. In the present study, four indigenous bacteria, named LY1, LY2, LY6, and LY7, were isolated from Cr(VI)-contaminated soil. Among the four Cr(VI)-resistant isolates, strain LY6 displayed the highest Cr(VI)-removing ability, with 100 mg/l Cr(VI) being completely removed within 144 h. It could effectively remove Cr(VI) over a wide pH range from 5.5 to 9.5, with the optimal pH of 8.5. The amount of Cr(VI) removed increased with initial Cr(VI) concentration. Data from the time-course analysis of Cr(VI) removal by strain LY6 followed first-order kinetics. Based on the 16S rRNA gene sequence, strain LY6 was identified as Pseudochrobactrum asaccharolyticum, a species that had never been reported for Cr(VI) removal before. Transmission electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy analysis further confirmed that strain LY6 could accumulate chromium within the cell while conducting Cr(VI) removal. The results suggested that the indigenous bacterial strain LY6 would be a new candidate for potential application in Cr(VI) pollution bioremediation.
In this paper, we present a new heuristic search algorithm, HSCP, that can solve conditional/contingent planning problems with nondeterministic actions as well as partial observations. The algorithm repeats its AND-OR search trials until a complete solution graph can be found. However, unlike existing heuristic AND-OR search algorithms such as$AO^*$ and $LAO^*$, the AND-OR search trial conducted by HSCP concentrates on only a single candidate of solution subgraphs to expand it into a complete solution graph. Moreover, unlike real-time dynamic programming algorithms such as RTDP and LRTDP, the AND-OR search trial of HSCP finds a solution immediately when it possible without delaying it until the estimated value of every state converges. Therefore, the HSCP search algorithm has the advantage that it can find a sub-optimal conditional plan very efficiently.

This paper proposes a global search based motion estimation algorithm for high performance HEVC encoder and its hardware architecture. To eliminate temporal redundancy, motion estimation in HEVC inter-view prediction uses global search and fast search algorithm to search for a predicted block having a high correlation with the current PU in an interpolated reference picture. The global search method predicts the motion of all candidate blocks in a given search area, thus ensuring optimal results, but has a disadvantage of large computation time. Therefore we propose a new algorithm that reduces computational complexity by reusing SAD operation in global search to reduce computation time of inter prediction. As a result of applying the proposed algorithm to standard software HM16.12, the computation time was reduced by 61%, BDBitrate by 11.81%, and BDPSNR by about 0.5% compared with the existing search algorithm. As a result of hardware design, the maximum operating frequency is 255 MHz and the total number of gates is 65.1K.
