  • Optimization using a hybrid multi-objective evolutionary algorithm coupled with response surface approximation has been performed to improve the performance of a transonic axial compressor with circumferential casing grooves. In order to optimize the operating stability and peak adiabatic efficiency of the compressor with circumferential casing grooves, tip clearance, angle distribution at blade tip and the depth of the circumferential casing grooves are selected as design variables. Three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with the shear stress transport turbulence model are discretized by finite volume approximations. The trade-off between two objectives with the interaction of blade and casing treatment is determined and discussed with respect to the representative clusters in the Pareto-optimal solutions compared to the axial compressor without the casing treatment.

  • Power system restoration following a massive blackout starts with re-energizing Primary Restorative Transmission (PRT) systems at first. As power systems have been gradually enlarged and become more complex, periodical evaluation and reassignment of PRTs are needed. So far it has been decided by try and error approach by corresponding human experts to analyze and evaluate them. This paper presents an intelligent system that finds optimal primary restoration paths using analytic and heuristic knowledge from PSS/E data, and suggests an optimal PRTs depending on the condition of Ferranti effect or a reactive power capability margin of black-start generator. This system was tested in Korea Electric Power system, and showed a promising result.

  • The Robust Design method uses a mathematical tool called orthogonal arrays to study a large number of decision variables with a small number of experiments. It also uses a new measure of quality, called signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio, to predict the quality from the customer's perspective. Thus, the most economical product and process design from both manufacturing and customers' viewpoints can be accomplished at the smallest, affordable development cost. Many companies, big and small, high-tech and low-tech, have found the Robust Design method valuable in making high-quality products available to customers at a low competitive price while still maintaining an acceptable profit margin. A study to analyze and solve problems of a biochemical process experiment has presented in this paper. We have taken Taguchi's parameter design approach, specifically orthogonal array, and determined the optimal levels of the selected variables through analysis of the experimental results using S/N ratio.

사각 보행로보트의 회전 걸음새에 관한 연구 (A Study on Turning Gait for a Quadruped Walking Robot)

  • In this paper a new turning gait is proposed for a quadruped walking robot. The proposed scheme makes it possible to control the translation and orientation of the walking robot simultaneously. At first the feasible leg sequences which can guarantee a positive longitudinal gait stability margin for each direction of movement are found. A method for finding the lifting time of each leg of a feasible leg sequince and selecting an optimal gait among feasible gaits is then suggested. The proposed gait can be appled to control the posture of walking robots and to generate an optimal gait for a desired movement of translation and rotation of the walking robot systematically.

Centralized Control Algorithm for Power System Performance using FACTS Devices in the Korean Power System

  • This paper presents a centralized control algorithm for power system performance in the Korean power system using Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) devices. The algorithm is applied to the Korean power system throughout the metropolitan area in order to alleviate inherent stability problems, especially concerns with voltage stability. Generally, control strategies are divided into local and centralized control. This paper is concerned with a centralized control strategy in terms of the global system. In this research, input data of the proposed algorithm and network data are obtained from the SCADA/EMS system. Using the full system model, the centralized controller monitors the system condition and decides the operating point according to the control objectives that are, in turn, dependent on system conditions. To overcome voltage collapse problems, load-shedding is currently applied in the Korean power system. In this study, the application of the coordination between FACTS and switch capacitor (SC) can restore the solvability without load shedding or guarantee the FV margin when the margin is insufficient. Optimal Power Flow (OPF) algorithm, for which the objective function is loss minimization, is used in a stable case. The results illustrate examples of the proposed algorithm using SCADA/EMS data of the Korean power system in 2007.

선형 PID 제어기 설계에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Design of Linear PID Controller)

  • 본 논문은 선형 PID 제어기의 설계 방법에 대해서 설명하였고, 향후 설계 방법에 대해서 제안 하였다. 첫 번째 PID 설계 방법으로는 위상여유와 이득여유를 보장하는 방법이다. 이 방법은 주파수 영역에서 설계하는 것으로 안정도를 보장한다. 두 번째 방법은 내부 모델 제어 방법이다. 이 방법은 제어 모델에 대한 내부 모델을 동정 후 내부 모델의 파라미터를 이용하여 PID 제어기를 설계하는 것이다. 따라서 이 방법은 외란에 강한 특성을 갖고 있다. 마지막으로 제안하는 것은 Cascade-smith-Predictor 제어기 이다. 이방 법의 Cascade 제어기와 smith-Predictor의 구조를 결합한 것으로 강인제어와 최적제어 두 가지 장점을 갖는 제어기 구조이다. 이 방법은 최적 제어기 설계 방법으로 성능 평가지수를 얻을 수 있을 것이다. 이와 같은 PID 제어기 설계 방법은 비선형 방법의 기초가 되며, 지속적인 연구가 수행되고 있다.

Scar formation after lower eyelid incision for reconstruction of the inferior orbital wall related to the lower eyelid crease or ridge in Asians

  • Background: Transcutaneous lower eyelid approaches are associated with a risk of postoperative scarring depending on the distance between the incision line and the lower eyelid margin. The lower eyelid crease of Caucasians corresponds to a ridge-shaped fold in young Asians. However, this relationship has not been sufficiently evaluated in the latter. The authors, therefore, investigated the location of the scar and the lower eyelid crease or ridge to find the optimal location for the incision line. Methods: This study included 60 out of 139 patients who underwent inferior orbital wall reconstruction through a lower eyelid skin incision between July 2019 and June 2020. According to the location of the scar, the patients were classified into three groups: group A (≥ 2 mm above the lower eyelid crease or ridge), group B (within the lower eyelid crease or ridge to 2 mm above the lower eyelid crease or ridge), and group C (within the lower eyelid crease or ridge to 2 mm below the lower eyelid crease or ridge). At 6 or 12 months after surgery, the Patient and Observer Scar Assessment Scale (POSAS) score was obtained, the distance between the lower eyelid margin and the scar (DMS) and the distance between the margins of the peripheral pupil and the lower eyelid (DMPE) were measured, and the occurrence of ectropion was evaluated. Results: Group B had the lowest POSAS score (A: 22.7 ± 8.0, B: 20.9 ± 2.4, C: 32.5 ± 4.1, p< 0.001). Linear regression analysis showed that the DMS was positively correlated with the POSAS score (p< 0.001) and that the risk of DMPE widening increased as the DMS decreased (p= 0.029). None of the patients had ectropion. Conclusion: When using the transcutaneous approach for inferior orbital wall reconstruction, the optimal incision site is within the lower eyelid crease or ridge to 2 mm above the lower eyelid crease or ridge.

Risk factors for locoregional recurrence in patients with pathologic T3N0 rectal cancer with negative resection margin treated by surgery alone

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify prognostic factors for locoregional recurrence (LRR) in pT3N0 rectal cancer patients who were treated with surgery alone and had negative resection margin including circumferential resection margin (CRM) for optimal indication of adjuvant radiotherapy. Materials and Methods: We reviewed patients with pT3N0 rectal cancer who were treated via upfront surgery and had no other adjuvant treatment from January 2003 to December 2012. In total, 122 patients who had negative resection margin including negative CRM were included in the analysis. Results: The median follow-up period after surgery was 60 months (range, 3 to 161 months). During this time, 6 patients (4.9%) experienced LRR at the anastomotic site (4 patients), and regional lymphatic area (2 patients). The estimated 5-year rates of overall survival, recurrence-free survival, and LRR-free survival were 96.7%, 84.6%, and 94.0%, respectively. Multivariate analysis showed that level of tumor ≤5 cm was a significant prognostic factor for LRR-free survival (LRRFS) (p = 0.04; hazard ratio = 7.08; 95% confidence interval, 1.06-47.30). Patients with level of tumor ≤5 cm had an estimated 5-year LRRFS of 66.8%, which was much higher than 2.3% in patients with level of tumor >5 cm. There was no significant factor for recurrence-free survival or overall survival. Conclusion: In T3N0 rectal cancer, adjuvant chemoradiotherapy should be recommended in patients with level of tumor ≤5 cm for better local control. However, in patients with pT3N0 disease, negative resection margin, and level of tumor >5 cm, adjuvant chemoradiotherapy should be carefully suggested.

공정 코너별 LVCC 마진 특성을 이용한 전력 소모 개선 Voltage Binning 기법 (A Voltage Binning Technique Considering LVCC Margin Characteristics of Different Process Corners to Improve Power Consumption)

  • 스마트 기기 시장의 눈부신 성장으로 핵심 SoC (System on Chip)에 대한 고성능 다기능 요구와 더불어 전력 소모 또한 급속도로 증가하고 있다. 그러나 이러한 요구 사항을 만족시키기 위해 점점 더 미세화된 공정을 사용하게 되면서 심화된 공정변이(process variation)문제로 인해 설계 마진(design margin)이 증가하여 성능과 전력소모를 악화시켜 궁극적으로 수율에 심각한 악영향을 주고 있다. Voltage binning 기법은 효과적인 post silicon tuning 기법중의 하나로, 개별 칩이 아닌 일정한 범위의 속도와 누설 전류에 따라 칩들을 선별 그룹핑한 bin 단위의 공급 전압 조절을 통해 경제적으로 공정 변이로 인한 parametric 수율 손실을 줄일 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 수율 손실 없이 추가적으로 평균 전력 소모를 개선하기 위한 voltage binning 기반의 최적화된 공급 전압 조절 방법을 제안한다. 제안한 기법은 칩 속도와 누설전류의 특성에 따른 공정 코너들의 서로 다른 LVCC (Low VCC) 마진을 고려하여 전압 마진의 편차를 최적화함으로써 전력 소모를 개선할 수 있다. 제안한 방식을 30나노급 모바일 SoC 제품에 적용한 결과 전통적인 voltage binning 방법 대비 동일조건에서 약 6.8%까지 평균 전력 소모를 줄일 수 있었다.

화공약품 탱크 적재 문제의 최소 여유량 탱크 적재 알고리즘 (Minimum Margin Tank Loading Algorithm for Chemical Tank Loading Problem)

  • 화공약품 탱크 적재 문제는 다항시간으로 해를 찾을 수 있는 알고리즘이 알려져 있지 않아 NP-완전으로 분류된 난제이다. 화공약품 탱크 적재 문제는 상자 포장 문제의 일종으로, Gu$\acute{e}$ret et al.은 $O(m^4)$ 수행 복잡도의 선형계획법으로 해를 얻고자 하였다. 반면에, 본 논문에서는 최소 여유량을 가진 탱크에 적재하는 규칙인 O(m) 복잡도의 알고리즘을 제안하였다. 제안된 방법은 첫 번째로 잔여량이 있는 탱크에 해당 화공약품을 적재하였다. 다음으로, 남은 화공약품을 적재할 수 있는 최소 여유량을 가진 탱크에 해당 화공약품을 적재하였다. 실험 결과, 제안된 알고리즘은 NP-완전 문제인 화공약품 적재 문제에 대해 선형계획법의 $O(m^4)$를 O(m)으로 단축시켰다.
