This paper presents an shifted linear interpolation method with an image-dependent parameter. The previous shifted linear interpolation proposed the optimal shift parameter of 0.21, which is calculated by spectrum analysis of the shifted linear interpolation kernel. However, the parameter can be different if we takes an input image spectrum into account. Thus, we introduce an image-dependent parameter. An experiment shows the best shift parameter is 0.19 in average for real images. Also, simulation results indicate the proposed method is superior to the existing shifted linear interpolation as well as conventional methods such as linear interpolation and cubic convolution interpolation in terms of the subjective and objective image quality.
In this paper asymptotic error expansions for mixed finite element approximations to a class of second order elliptic optimal control problems are derived under rectangular meshes, and the Richardson extrapolation of two different schemes and interpolation defect correction can be applied to increase the accuracy of the approximations. As a by-product, we illustrate that all the approximations of higher accuracy can be used to form a class of a posteriori error estimators of the mixed finite element method for optimal control problems.
An algorithm of finding a solution to an $H^{\infty}$-minimization problem is proposed, and the solution is obtained explicity in terms of closed-form. We construct an optimal controller subject to the interpolation constraints such that $H^{\infty}$-norm and the minimized value of transfer function matrix are equal.l.
Intelligent schemes for an automatic generation of DEM (digital elevation model) are implemented. The need for these post-processing schemes is that interpolation alone produces severe blunders, however sophisticated it is. These blunders occur most seriously along the boundaries of a scene, over rivers, and along the coast. Even a state-of-the-art commercial software retains such blunders. The intelligent schemes implemented are (1) center-of-gravity and empty-center-index which quantify how evenly distributed interpolants are within in interpolation radius. (2) a segmentation scheme to discern whether or not an empty segment in stereo-match results should be interpolated, and (3) a segmentation scheme for removing noise-like features, with these methods, in the final DEM, identical coastline and river region to those in the original SPOT scenes are achieved. The DEM exhibits substantial improvements over the products of an existing commercial software.

In this study, we analyzed the soil salinity of Saemangeum agricultural land using GIS spatial interpolation method. Dominant soils series of experimental sites were Munpo (coarseloamy, mixed, non-acid, mesic, typically fluvaquents), which was based on the fluvio-marine deposit. Soil samples were periodically collected at 0~20cm and 20~40cm layer from each site. First, the distribution characteristics of EC, ESP, and SAR according to spatial interpolation were analyzed using 142 sample points. Through the error analysis of 143 validation points, the IDW method for EC and SAR, and the Kriging interpolation method for ESP were selected as the optimal interpolation method. Using the optimal interpolation method, the characteristics of EC, ESP, and SAR were analyzed for the change of soil salinity from 2014 to 2016. As a result, EC, ESP and SAR were decreased by 0.26mg/L, 5.97mg/L and 0.73mg/L respectively due to the dilution effect caused by rainfall.

Surface currents were observed by high-frequency (HF) radars off the Keum River estuary from December 2008 to February 2009. The dataset of observed surface currents had data gaps due to the interference of electromagnetic waves and the deteriorating weather conditions. To fill the data gaps an optimal interpolation procedure was developed. The characteristics of spatial correlation in the surface currents off the Keum River estuary were investigated and the spatial data gaps were filled using the optimal interpolation. Then, the temporal and spatial distribution of the interpolated surface currents and the patterns of interpolation error were examined. The correlation coefficients between the surface currents in the coastal region were higher than 0.7 because tidal currents dominate the surface circulation. The sample data covariance matrix (C), spatially averaged covariance matrix with localization ($C^G_{sm}$) and covariance matrix fitted by an exponential function ($C_{ft}$) were used to interpolate the original dataset. The optimal interpolation filled the data gaps and suppressed the spurious data with spikes in the time series of surface current speed so that the variance of the interpolated time series was smaller than that of the original data. When the spatial data coverage was larger (smaller) than 70% of the region, the interpolation error produced by $C^G_{sm}$ ($C_{ft}$) was smaller compared with that by C.

This paper introduces a new methodology to apply the interpolation technique wi th optimum pattern to voltage-reactive power control of power system. The conventional tool for the optimal operation of power system is Optimal Power Flow(OPF) by standard optimization techniques. The achievement of solution through OPF programs has a defect of computation time, so that it is impossible to apply the OPF programs to the real-time control area. The proposed method presents a solution in a short period of time and an output with a good accuracy. The optimum pattern is a set of input-output pairs, where an input is a load level and a type of outage and an output is the result of OPF program corresponding to the input. The output in the OPF represents control variables of voltage-reactive power control. The interpolation technique is used to obtain the solution for an arbitrary input. As a result, the new technique helps operators in the process of the real-time voltage-reactive power control in both normal and emergency operating states.

This paper presents an optimal operating scheme by integrating Sihwa tidal power into NamSihwa systems. For optimal operation of NamSihwa systems, the sea levels of 1 minute interval using cubic interpolation based on the forecasted levels of high and low water are calculated. Especially, it is compared by three schemes to purchase total power from transmission system to purchase total power from tidal power system in time period that can generate tidal power and to purchase total power by comparing purchase costs from transmission system and tidal power system. The scheme may contribute to energy save in Korea that natural resources are lacking.
Buck-Boost LLC (BBLLC) converters based on a PWM + phase control strategy are good candidates for high efficiency, high power density and wide input range applications. Nevertheless, they suffer from large computational complexity when it comes to calculating the optimal phase for ZVS of all the switches. In this paper, a method is proposed for a microcontroller unit (MCU) to calculate the optimal phase quickly and accurately. Firstly, a 2-D lookup table of the phase is established with an index of the input voltage and output current. Then, a bilinear interpolation method is applied to improve the accuracy. Meanwhile, simplification of the phase equation is presented to reduce the computational complexity. When compared with conventional curve-fitting and LUT methods, the proposed method makes the best tradeoff among the accuracy of the optimal phase, the computation time and the memory consumption of the MCU. Finally, A 350V-420V input, 24V/30A output experimental prototype is built to verify the proposed method. The efficiency can be improved by 1% when compared with the LUT method, and the computation time can be reduced by 13.5% when compared with the curve-fitting method.

The ensemble optimal interpolation (EnOI) scheme is a sub-optimal alternative to the ensemble Kalman filter (EnKF) with a reduced computational demand making it potentially more suitable for operational applications. Since only one model is integrated forward instead of an ensemble of model realizations, online estimation of the background error covariance matrix is not possible in the EnOI scheme. In this study, we investigate two Gaussian noise based ensemble generation strategies to produce dynamic covariance matrices for assimilation of water level observations into a distributed hydrological model. In the first approach, spatially correlated noise, sampled from a normal distribution with a fixed fractional error parameter (which controls its standard deviation), is added to the model forecast state vector to prepare the ensembles. In the second method, we use an adaptive error estimation technique based on the innovation diagnostics to estimate this error parameter within the assimilation framework. The results from a real and a set of synthetic experiments indicate that the EnOI scheme can provide better results when an optimal EnKF is not identified, but performs worse than the ensemble filter when the true error characteristics are known. Furthermore, while the adaptive approach is able to reduce the sensitivity to the fractional error parameter affecting the first (non-adaptive) approach, results are usually worse at ungauged locations with the former.
