  • Many regions of the world are now facing the second wave of boomed cases of COVID-19. This time, the second wave of this highly infectious disease (COVID-19) is becoming more devastating. To control the existing situation, more mass testing, and tracing of COVID-19 positive individuals are required. Furthermore, practicing to wear a face mask and maintenance of physical distancing are strongly recommended for everyone. Taking all these into consideration, an optimal control problem has been reformulated in terms of nonlinear ordinary differential equations in this paper. The aim of this study is to explore the control strategy of coronavirus-2 disease (COVID-19) and thus, minimize the number of symptomatic, asymptomatic and infected individuals as well as cost of the controls measures. The optimal control model has been analyzed analytically with the help of the necessary conditions of very well-known Pontryagin's maximum principle. Numerical simulations of the optimal control problem are also performed to illustrate the results.

  • Many researchers devote themselves to develop model-predictive direct power control (MPDPC) so as to accelerate the response speed of the grid-connected systems, but they are troubled its large computing amount. On the basis of MPDPC, dual MPDPC (DMPDPC) is presented in this paper. The proposed algorithm divides the conventional MPDPC into two steps. In the first step, the optimal sector is obtained, which contains the optimal switching state in three-level converters. In the second step, the optimal switching state in the selected sector is searched to trace reference active and reactive power and balance neutral point voltage. Simulation and experiment results show that the proposed algorithm not only decreases the computational amount remarkably but also improves the steady-state performance. The dynamic response of the DMPDPC is as fast as that of the MPDPC.

  • Due to the uncertain of connections in Delay Tolerant Networks (DTNs), most routing algorithms in DTNs need nodes to forward the message to others based on the opportunistic contact. The contact is related with the beaconing rate. In particular, nodes have more chances to encounter with each other with bigger beaconing rate, but more energy will be used. On the other hand, if the nodes forward the message to every node all the time, the efficiency of the routing algorithm is better, but it needs more energy, too. This paper tries to exploit the optimal beaconing rate and forwarding rate when the total energy is constraint. First, a theoretical framework is proposed, which can be used to evaluate the performance with different forwarding rate and beaconing rate. Then, this paper formulates a joint optimization problem based on the framework. Through Pontryagin's Maximal Principle, this paper obtains the optimal policy and proves that both the optimal forwarding and beaconing rates conform to threshold form. Simulation results show the accuracy of the theoretical framework. Extensive numerical results show that the optimal policy obtained in this paper is the best.

  • The transmission opportunities between nodes in Delay Tolerant Network (DTNs) are uncertain, and routing algorithms in DTNs often need nodes serving as relays for others to carry and forward messages. Due to selfishness, nodes may ask the source to pay a certain reward, and the reward may be varying with time. Moreover, the reward that the source obtains from the destination may also be varying with time. For example, the sooner the destination gets the message, the more rewards the source may obtain. The goal of this paper is to explore efficient ways for the source to maximize its total reward in such complex applications when it uses the probabilistic two-hop routing policy. We first propose a theoretical framework, which can be used to evaluate the total reward that the source can obtain. Then based on the model, we prove that the optimal forwarding policy confirms to the threshold form by the Pontryagin's Maximum Principle. Simulations based on both synthetic and real motion traces show the accuracy of our theoretical framework. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the performance of the optimal forwarding policy with threshold form is better through extensive numerical results, which conforms to the result obtained by the Maximum Principle.

  • The suboptimal control rule is introduced in structural control implementation as an alternative over the optimal control because the optimal control may require large amount of processing time when applied to complex structural control problems. It is well known that any time delay in structural control implementation will cause un-synchronized application of the control forces, which not only reduce the effectiveness of an active control system, but also cause instability of the control system. The effect of time delay on the displacement and acceleration responses of building structures is studied when the suboptimal control rule is adopted. Two examples are given to show the effectiveness of the suboptimal control rule. It is shown through the examples that the present method is easy in implementation and high in efficiency and it can significantly reduce the time delay in structural control implementation without significant loss of performance.

  • An optimal design method to determine the lengths of finger phalanges is proposed especially for anthropomorphic design. The quality of designs are quantified by several measures of global isotropy for design, Also, for an example, optimal design of two fingers is performed and the results are compared with the anatomical data.

  • There is an Overhead Hoist Transport(OHT) for delivering the wafer in semiconductor processing. The transfer system is consists of carrier vehicle. rail, and support. OHTCMS(OHT Control and Management System) has to take the feature, such as the optimal control and integration with several OHT. In this paper, ESRA(Efficiency of Shortest - Route Algorithms) is proposed which can be transported optimal route and be prevented collision using the Floyd-Warshall algorithms. The proposed algorithm is verified through consecutive simulation for a long time.

  • Anti-lock brake systems (ABS) are being increasingly used in a wide range of applications due to safety. This paper deals with a high performance optimal sliding mode controller for slip-ratio control in the ABS. In this approach a sliding surface square is considered as an appropriate cost function. The optimum brake torque as a system input is determined by minimizing the cost function and used in the controller. Simulation results reveal the effectiveness of the proposed sliding mode controller.
