  • Effects of hydrogen and oxygen additives on structural, optical, and electrical properties of ZnO films were extensively examined. ZnO films were deposited using RF sputtering by varying the gas mixing ratio of $H_2$ and $O_2$. Optical transmittances at visible region, electrical resistivities, and micro-structures of ZnO films were characterized in terms of the kind and amount of additive gases. It was observed that the material properties of ZnO films required for their use in transparent thin film transistors, such as approximately $10^3{\Omega}cm$ in resistivity and higher than 85% in transmittance, can be achieved by controlling the gas mixing ratio of $O_2/H_2$ (sccm) in the range of 2/2~2/8.

  • Commercial applications of indium tin oxide (ITO) can be separated into two useful areas. As it is perceived to bear electrical properties and optical transparency at once, its chance to apply to promising fields, usually for an optical device, gets greater in the passing time. ITO is one of the transparent conducting oxides (TCO), and required to carry the relative resistance less than $10^{-3}{\Omega}$/cm and transmittances over 80 % in the visible wavelength of light. Because ITO has considerable refractive index, there exist applications for anti-reflection coatings. Anti-reflection properties require gradual change in refractive index from films to air. Such changes are obtained from film density or nano-clustered fractional void. Glancing angle deposition (GLAD) method is a well known process for adjusting nanostructure of the films. From its shadowing effects, GLAD helps to deposit well-controlled porous films effectively. In this study, we are comparing the reference sample to samples coated with controlled ITO multilayer accumulated by an e-beam evaporation system. At first, the single ITO layer samples are prepared to decide refractive index with ellipsometry. Afterwards, ITO multilayer samples are fabricated and fitted by multilayer ellipsometric model based on single layer data. The structural properties were measured by using atomic force microscopy (AFM), and by scanning X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements. The ellipsometry was used to determine refractive indices and extinction coefficient. The optical transmittance of the film was investigated by using an ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometer.

  • Using sol-gel processing method, thin films of lathanum modified lead titanate(PLT) on Corning 7059 glass were prepared. A differential thermal analysis (DTA/TG) curve of gel powder and infrared spectra (FT-IR) of the films were measured to estimate residual organices in them. The heat-treated films were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD). Microstructures of the films were observed by a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Optical properties of the films were determined by a UV-VIS spectrophotometer. The waveguiding properties and optical attenuation were measured with the end coupling method and the cut back method. Effects of the drying conditions on the transmittance and the propagation loss of the films were investigated. Experimemtal results showed that the content of residual organics in the film decreased as the drying temperature of the film increased. As the La content of the film increased, the grain size decreased and the transmittance increased. The transmittances of the films increased with the increasing of the drying temperature. The propagation losses in the film decreased as the drying temperature increased.

  • Ga-doped ZnO-$SnO_2$ (ZSGO) films were deposited by rf magnetron sputtering and their structural and electrical properties were investigated. In order to fabricate the target for sputtering, the mixture of ZnO, $SnO_2$ (1:1 weight ratio) and $Ga_2O_3$ (3.0 wt%) powder was calcined at $800^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. The substrate temperature was varied from room temperature to $300^{\circ}C$. The crystallographic properties and the surface morphologies of the films were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The optical transmittances of the films were measured and the optical energy band gaps were obtained from the absorption coefficients. The resistivity variation with substrate temperature was measured. Auger electron spectroscopy was employed to find the atomic ratio of Zn, Sn, Ga and O in the film deposited at room temperature. ZSGO films exhibited the optical transmittance in the visible region of more than 80% and resistivity higher than $10\;{\Omega}cm$.

  • Purpose: Basic design of virtual colored overlay, film overlay, colored lenses and colored glasses for people with Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome. Methods: I calculated sRGB and RGB values of the overlays from measured data. I evaluated the relationship between the combinational chromaticities composed of Galaxy Tab white background and film overlays and the chromaticities of pure film overlays. Results: Implementable sRGB and RGB values of the overlays is calculated. The chromaticities of film overlays are different from them with white paper background and them with Galaxy Tab's white background, but showed a certain relationship between them. Light transmittances of Intuitive Overlay are the most (59%-79%) among them and average light reflectance of Reading Ruler is least(8%). Conclusions: The sRGB values and the RGB values are directly applicable to implement assistive tools and the light transmittances are used to calculate ${\alpha}$, transparency of virtual overlay in IT devices. It is recommended to consider the chromaticity of white color in implementing virtual colored overlay in the case which the chromaticity is considerably different to theoretical chromaticity of white color.

  • Zn-Sn-O (Zinc-Tin-Oxide; ZTO) thin films have been gaining extensive academic and industrial attentions owing to a semiconducting channel materials applicable to large-sized flat-panel displays. Due to the constituent oxides i.e., ZnO and SnO2, the resultant Zn-Sn-O thin films possess artificially controllable bandgaps and transmittances especially effective in the visible regime. The current approach employed RF sputtering in depositing the Zn-Sn-O thin films onto glass substrates at ambient conditions. This work places its main emphases on the electrical/optical features which are closely related to the combinations of processing variables. The electrical characterizations are performed using dc-based current-voltage characteristics and ac-based impedance spectroscopy. The optical constants, i.e., refractive index and extinction coefficient, are calculated through spectroscopic ellipsometry along with the estimation of bandgaps. The charge transport of the deposited ZTO thin films is based on electrons characteristic of n-type conduction. In addition to the basic electrical/optical information, the delicate manipulation of n-type conduction is indispensible in diversifying the industrial applications of the ZTO thin films as active devices in information and energy products. Ultimately, the electrical properties are correlated to the processing variables along with the underlying mechanism which largely determines the electrical and optical properties.

  • Device quality indium tin oxide (ITO) films are deposited on glass substrates and ultra-thin diamond-like carbon films are deposited as a buffer layer on ITO by a pulsed Nd:YAG laser at 355 nm and 532 nm wavelength. ITO films deposited at room temperature are largely amorphous although their optical transmittances in the visible range are > 90%. The resistivity of their amorphous ITO films is too high to enable an efficient organic light-emitting device (OLED), in contrast to that deposited by a KrF laser. Substrate heating at $200^{\circ}C$ with laser wavelength of 355 nm, the ITO film resistivity decreases by almost an order of magnitude to $2{\times}10^{-4}\;{\Omega}\;cm$ while its optical transmittance is maintained at > 90%. The thermally induced crystallization of ITO has a preferred <111> directional orientation texture which largely accounts for the lowering of film resistivity. The background gas and deposition distance, that between the ITO target and the glass substrate, influence the thin-film microstructures. The optical and electrical properties are compared to published results using other nanosecond lasers and other fluence, as well as the use of ultra fast lasers. Molecularly doped, single-layer OLEDs of ITO/(PVK+TPD+$Alq_3$)/Al which are fabricated using pulsed-laser deposited ITO samples are compared to those fabricated using the commercial ITO. Effects such as surface texture and roughness of ITO and the insertion of DLC as a buffer layer into ITO/DLC/(PVK+TPD+$Alq_3$)/Al devices are investigated. The effects of DLC-on-ITO on OLED improvement such as better turn-on voltage and brightness are explained by a possible reduction of energy barrier to the hole injection from ITO into the light-emitting layer.

  • The transparent conductive oxide(TCO) has been used in necessity as front electrode for increasing efficiency of LED. In our paper, aluminium-doped zinc oxide films(AZO), which has transparent conducting were prepared with RF magnetron sputtering system on glass substrate(corning 1737) and annealed at $400^{\circ}C$ for 2 hr in vacuum ambient and $600^{\circ}C$ for 2hr with $O_2$ ambient respectively. The smooth AZO films were etched in diluted HCL(0.5 %) to examine the surface properties, which in ambient post-annealing process. We confirmed that the electric, structural and optical properties of textured AZO thin films, which implemented using the methods of XRD, FWHM, AFM and Hall measurement. The properties of textured AZO thin films especially depended on the ambient post-annealing process. We presumed that the change of transmittances as R G B LED and the ambient post-annealing process will be increasing the efficiency of LED.

  • The ZnO/CuSn/ZnO (ZCSZ) multilayer films were deposited on polycarbonate substrates using reactive RF and DC magnetron sputtering. The thickness of each layer was 50 nm/5 nm/45 nm, respectively. The ZCSZ films showed a sheet resistance of $44{\Omega}$/Sq, which was an order of magnitude lower than that indium tin oxide (ITO) films. Although the ZCSZ films had a CuSn interlayer that absorbed visible light, both films had similar optical transmittances of 74% in the visible wavelength region. The figure of merit of the ZCSZ films was $1.0{\times}10^{-3}{\Omega}^{-1}$ and was greater than the value of the ITO films, $1.6{\times}10^{-4}{\Omega}^{-1}$. From the X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, the ITO films did not show any diffraction peaks, whereas the ZCSZ films showed diffraction peaks for the ZnO (100) and (002) phases. The hardness of the ITO and ZCSZ films were 5.8 and 7.1 GPa, respectively, which were determined using nano-indentation. From these results, the ZCSZ films exhibited greater optoelectrical performance and hardness compared to the conventional ITO films.
