  • A lot of varIOUS studies are taking advantage of annular masks or various pupil filters to design optical systems such as a digital versatile disc (DVD) pick up head and precise scanning microscopy that have the superresolution beyond the diffraction limit. We considered both annular mask and pupil filter for the superresolution system. Since image quality is a function of annular width, position and modulation amount, we computel'lzed the optimized condition for the phase modulation and mvestigated the variation of lhe center peak: intensity for the phase modulated system From tills result, we were able to detenrune the best conditions for the annular apodizer, wluch give the maximum value of the center peak intensity_ We made especially sure that the phase modulated system have an excellent compensation for spherical aberration as it lllcreases. eases.

  • In the terrestrial optical wireless communication(OWC), the performance is affected by atmospheric turbulence and particles in the air. The received signal power loss mainly is caused by turbulence and scattering. To minimize the adverse atmospheric effects, the OWC used optical signal modulation, such as OOK, PPM and DPIM. In this paper, the packet error rate(PER) was analyzed above three modulation methods to ground optical link in atmospheric turbulence, scattering and link distance. The OWC system used three wavelengths which are 850nm, 1310nm and 1550nm. I assumed the atmospheric turbulence intensity is weak, so the refractive index is $Cn2{\approx}10-14m-2/3$ and the visibility is 2km. The numerical results shown that the L-DPIM scheme and the wavelength 1550nm are better than other modulation methods and wavelengths.

  • For the application of multiusers, the arrangement and distribution of the keys is a much concerning problem in a cryptosystem. In this paper, we propose an optical encryption scheme with multiple users based on computational ghost imaging (CGI) and orthogonal modulation. The CGI encrypts the secret image into an intensity vector rather than a complex-valued matrix. This will bring convenience for post-processing and transmission of the ciphertext. The orthogonal vectors are taken as the address codes to distinguish users and avoid cross-talk. Only the decryption key and the address code owned by an authorized user are matched, the secret image belonging to him/her could be extracted from the ciphertext. Therefore, there are two security levels in the encryption scheme. The feasibility and property are verified by numerical simulations.

  • In this paper, we investigated the degree of compensation for WDM channel signal distortion due to chromatic dispersion, self phase modulation (SPM) and cross phase modulation (XPM) as a function of transmission length using mid-span spectral inversion (MSSI) compensation method. The considered system is $3{\times}40$ Gbps intensity modulation direct detection (IM/DD) WDM transmission system. This system has highly nonlinear dispersion shifted fiber (HNL-DSF) as a nonlinear medium in optical phase conjugator (OPC). We confirmed that the transmission length is more increased by applying MSSI to distorted signal due to chromatic dispersion, SPM and XPM as dispersion coefficient of fiber becomes higher. And the compensation degree of distorted WDM channels due to chromatic dispersion, SPM and XPM becomes better stable as dispersion coefficient of fiber becomes higher.

  • We present a fast-switching electro-optical device based on flexoelectro-optic effect in short pitch cholesterics oriented in uniform lying helix texture. The device has two operating modes: amplitude and phase modulation mode. The amplitude modulation mode is a fast in-plane switching of the device optic axis that enables to achieve a high percent of modulation of the transmitted light intensity whereas the phase mode gives a continuous change of the refractive index and thus of the phase shift of the transmitted light. By using a small concentration of diacrylate monomer and selecting the illumination conditions we have been able to create a inhomogeneous polymeric network mostly localized at both substrate surfaces and stabilize the two switching modes.

  • We perform an optical vestigial sideband (VSB) filtering using a pair of Fabry-Perot (FP) filters. The transmittance curve of each FP filter is made to have sharp skirts using an offset between input and output coupling fibers. Moreover, the accurate periodicity of FP filters in the optical frequency domain enables the simultaneous VSB filtering of a large number of optical channels. With this VSB filtering technique, we transmit 12.5-GHz spaced $64{\times}12.4-Gb/s$ wavelength-division-multiplexing channels over a single-mode fiber up to 150 km without any dispersion compensations. When the channel spacing is reduced to 10 GHz, we achieve the spectral efficiency of 1 bit/s/Hz in conventional optical intensity modulation systems up to 125 km.

  • The integration of a GaAs/AlGaAs multi-quantum well electroabsorption modulator and a tapered waveguide vertical direction optical interconnect has been performed without the complicated regrowth process. Zn impurity-induced layer disordering of MQW layer is used to achieve the energy transfer between SQW and MQW regions. Light coupled into a SQW region was transferred to an MQW region and an intensity modulation of 10 dB extinction ratio was demonstrated.

  • Fabrication and pakaging method for low delve voltage and 10Gbps Ti diffused waveguide LiNbO$_3$ optical intensity modulator are described. Optical waveguides were prepared by conventionaly electron-beam evaporation and Ti-indiffusion into Z-cut plate LiNbO$_3$. Traveling-wave electrodes were used for obtaining the wideband frequency response and impedance matching. Microwave effective index and characteristic impedance measured by time domain reflectometry and compared with the calculated value by conformal mapping. The characteristics of 10Gbps modulator at the 1550nm wavelength are as follows : perfect modulation voltage Is about 5V, optical insertion loss Is about 5dB, 3-dB bandwidth is 10GHz, and characteristic impedance is about 50$\Omega$.

  • The objective of this paper lies in presenting in theory an interpretation of how signals are detected from the real-time A/O correlator, and scrutinize by experimental processes, thereby to devise a method by which correlation function can be detected in a favorable way in time. An A/O system for real-time correlation function of two signals has been constructed. This optical correlator when at work in intensity modulation mode by acousto- optic device renders higher output signal to noise ration, as compared with the traditional optical signal detection, has simple system as compared with existing optical correlator in amplitude modulation mode.
