Remote control stopwatch development using ATmega8 processor (ATmega8 프로세서를 이용한 원격제어 초시계 개발)

  • In this paper, we design and implement a digital LCD stopwatch function of the remote control. The central controller and LCD stopwatch is implemented based on the clock signal of the crystal oscillator of 8MHz by using ATmega8 processor in the AVR representative series of ATMEL, Communication module basic, ZBS-using the ISM 2.4GHz frequency band at 100. Stopwatch of remote control that has been proposed, it is possible to solve the three problems. First, it is possible to solve the sight deviation between broadcast camera and panelists glance to large LCD stopwatch monitors. Second, it is possible to avoid the trouble of broadcasting cameras cross replacement, Third, it is possible to minimize the inconvenient of the viewer corresponding to the operation of the horizontal movement of the broadcast camera.

Adaptive Garbage Collection Policy based on Analysis of Page Ratio for Flash Memory (플래시 메모리를 위한 페이지 비율 분석 기반의 적응적 가비지 컬렉션 정책)

  • NAND flash memory is widely used in embedded systems because of many attractive features, such as small size, light weight, low power consumption and fast access speed. However, it requires garbage collection, which includes erase operations. Erase operation is slower than other operations. Further, a block has a limited erase lifetime (typically 100,000) after which a block becomes unusable. The proposed garbage collection policy focuses on minimizing the total number of erase operations, the deviation value of each block and the garbage collection time. NAND flash memory consists of pages of three types, such as valid pages, invalid pages and free pages. In order to achieve above goals, we use a page ratio to decide when to do garbage collection and to select the target victimblock. Additionally, we implement allocating method and group management method. Simulation results show that the proposed policy performs better than Greedy or CAT with the maximum rate 85% of reduction in the deviation value of the erase operations and 6% reduction in garbage collection time.

Septoplasty Through Dorsal Approach (비배부 접근법을 통한 비중격 성형술)

  • Septal deviations interfere with the nasal airflow and contribute to the deformities in the external appearance of the nose. An aesthetically and functionally satisfactory correction of severe septal deformities often requires temporary intraoperative removal of the septal cartilage for appropriate remodeling. This article describes septoplasty through dorsal approach for the correction of septal deviation. From March 2001 to April 2004, the author performed septoplasty through dorsal approach for the correction of septal deviations on 45 patients, of whom 22 of whom had nasal obstruction. Open rhinoplasty was used for dorsal approach in all patients and operation was performed under the general anesthesia or local anesthesia. The follow-up period of the patients ranged from 3 to 15 months with a mean of 10 months, and postoperative results were quite satisfactory. There was neither incidences of patients' complaints, nor any complications such as hematoma, septal perforation, supratip deformity, or recurrence. And there was some improvement of nasal obstruction in 15 patients. In conclusion, Septoplasty through dorsal approach is an effective method for the correction of septal deviation and improvement of the nasal airway obstruction.

A Study on the Optimization for a V-groove GMA Welding Process Using a Dual Response Method (듀얼 반응표면법을 이용한 V-그루브 GMA 용접공정 최적화에 관한 연구)

  • In general, the quality of a welding process tends to vary with depending on the work environment or external disturbances. Hence, in order to achieve the desirable quality of welding, we should have the optimal welding condition that is not significantly affected by these changes in the environment or external disturbances. In this study, we used a dual response surface method in consideration of both the mean output variables and the standard deviation in order to optimize the V-groove arc welding process. The input variables for GMA welding process with the dual response surface are welding voltage, welding current and welding speed. The output variables are the welding quality function using the shape factor of bead geometry. First, we performed welding experiment on the interested area according to the central composite design. From the results obtained, we derived the regression model on the mean and standard deviation between the input and output variables of the welding process and then obtained the dual response surface. Finally, using the grid search method, we obtained the input variables that minimize the object function which led to the optimal V-groove arc welding process.

  • In this paper, it is suggested that the selection method of parameter of Power System Stabilizer(PSS) with robustness in low frequency oscillation for Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor(TCSC) using Geletic Algorithm(GA). A TCSC meddle consists of a stories capacitor and a parallel path with a thyristor valve and a series inductor. Also in in parallel, as is typical with series capacitor applications, is a metal-oxide varistor(MOV) for overvoltage protection. The proposed PSS parameters are optimized using GA in order to maintain optimal operation of TCSC which is expected to be applied in transmission system to achieve a number of benefits under the various operating conditions. In order to verify the robustness of the proposed method, we considered the dynamic response of angular velocity deviation and terminal voltage deviation under a power fluctuation and rotor angle variation.

A Study on Course Stability in Accordance with Configuration of Ships (선형에 따른 선박의 침로 안정성에 관한 연구)

  • Ship's maneuverability is very important factor in safe ship handling and economical ship operation. Steering characteristics are consisted of course stability and maneuverability. Today in many advanced ship-building countries, they study ship's course stability, using model ship tests, such as straight line tests, rotating arm tests and Planar Motion Mechanism (PMM) etc., in tow in tanks. It is the purpose of this paper to provide ship's handlers with better understanding of steering characteristics and to help them in safe controlling and manevering . In this paper, the author simulated response of various vessels, running straight course with constant speed, and they are disturbed by small external disturbance of one degree yaw angle with no angular velocity . The author used the hydrodynamic derivtives resulted at tests of Davidson's laboratory in Stevens Institute of Technology, New Jersey, U.S.A. Course stability was evaluated and analyzed in various respects, such as block coefficient, ratio of ship's length to beam, draft and rudder area ratio etc. The obtained results are as follows : (1) The ship's course stability is affected by magnitude of block coefficient greatly. In case that the block coefficient is more than 0.7, the deviation varies at nearly same rate but the requistite time to reach the steady course is different. (2) The ship's course stability is affected by magnitude of L/B. When the dimensionless time reaches about 3, the deviation and requisite time to reach the steady course are influenced nearly same. After the dimensionless time is about 3, they change on invariable ratio. (3) The effect to course stability by L/T and RA' can be neglected. (4) The reason why thy VLCC and container feeder vessel are unstable on their course is that their block coefficient is generally more than 0.8 and the ratio of ship's length to beam is about 6.0.

  • Recently, dimethyl carbonate (DMC) is considered as an alternative of MTBE (methyl tert-butyl ether), additive for non-leaded gasoline with their fast biodegradation rate and low toxicity. DMC is usually synthesized so far by oxidative carbonylation of methanol, and recently developed synthetic process is also started with methanol. Since the phase equilibria of the system, consisted of DMC and methanol or other reaction products on different temperature and pressure is necessary for the optimum separation process design and operation. However the reported phase equilibria and physical properties for DMC mixtures in the Dortmund Data Bank (DDB; thermodynamic property data bank) are quite rare. Besides, infinitely dilute properties are not found. In this work, isothermal vapor-liquid equilibria at 333.15 K for methanol+DMC binary system and mixing properties, excess molar volume and viscosity deviation at 298.15 K are directly measured and correlated. Additionally, infinitely dilute activity coefficient of methanol in the DMC solvent at three different temperatures are measured and compared with predicted values using modified UNIFAC (Dortmund).

  • ATM PON system is regarded as a solution of the next generation access network because it can cover various types of subscribers in a single platform. In this paper, we describe the merit of the ATM PON and the key protocols for its operation. Above all, the ranging is the most important protocol providing a mean of the time-division multiple access in the system. A problem in the protocol is that the window size, the time interval that ranging cell arrives, is too long. During the interval, user traffics cannot be send to the upstream, which makes the quality of service degraded. In this paper, we suggest a method to minimize the window size when the length of the optic fiber is known with some deviation. The window size can be reduced as 7 % of the conventional method when the deviation of the length is 1 Km.

Development of Automated Guidance Tracking Sensor System Based on Laser Distance Sensors

  • Purpose: Automated guidance systems (AGSs) for mobile farm machinery have several advantages over manual operation in the crop production industry. Many researchers and companies have tried to develop such a system. However, it is not easy to evaluate the performance of an AGS because there is no established device used to evaluate it that complies with the ISO 12188 standard. The objective of this study was to develop a tracking sensor system using five laser distance measurement sensors. Methods: One sensor-for long-range distance measurement-was used to measure travel distance and velocity. The other four sensors-for mid-range distance measurement-were used to measure lateral deviation. Stationary, manual driving, and A-B line tests were conducted, and the results were compared with the real-time kinematic differential global positioning system (RTK-DGPS) signal used by the AGS. Results: For the stationary test, the average error of the tracking sensor system was 1.99 mm, and the average error of the RTK-DGPS was 15.19 mm. For the two types of driving tests, the data trends were similar. A comparison of the changes in lateral deviation showed that the data stability of the developed tracking system was better. Conclusions: Although the tracking system was not capable of measuring long travel distances under strong sunlight illumination because of the long-range sensor's limitations, this dilemma could be overcome using a higher-performance sensor.

  • The development of autopilot system and flight management system (FMS) equipment in today's aircraft navigation can be attributed to the reduction of pilots' workload and the navigation safety. The effect of autopilot and FMS equipment is greater, especially in heavy airport traffic or complicated of the departure. However, some airport specific departure procedures result in an uncommanded turn event due to an error in the FMS, causing aircraft to deviate from the center line of the route. With most departure procedures requiring area navigation (RNAV) operation, pilot situation awareness and corrective action are the only ways to minimize aircraft deviation to maintain the safety of area navigation. Through analysis of the occurrence status of the uncommended turn event by aircraft type, airport and flight phase, and comparative analysis of the survey results of foreign airlines and the airlines self-reduction plan with the aircraft manufacturer's corrective action, it is intended to give implications for the need for more fundamental measures to prevent recurrence of such events.
