  • Selective catalytic reduction (SCR) is the most effective method for reducing nitrogen oxide emissions, but the operating temperature range of V2O5-WO3/TiO2 catalysts is narrow (300~400℃). In this study, a new catalyst with an operating temperature range of 200~450℃ was developed. The catalyst poison, ammonium bisulfate, generated during the SCR process can be removed by heating above 350℃. To increase the number of active sites and promote the dispersion of active materials, titanium isopropoxide (TTIP) treatment was performed on the TiO2 support with various TTIP/TiO2 mass ratios. Among them, the 5 wt% TTIP loaded catalyst showed improved performance due to higher thermal stability caused by high W dispersion and the formation of V5+. In addition, the 5 wt% TTIP-loaded catalyst prepared by a one-step co-precipitation method showed greater V-OH and W-OH dispersion and enhanced interactions in contrast to conventional methods, resulting in higher catalytic activity at lower temperatures. This review article aims to provide an accessible explanation for researchers investigating how to improve the surface properties of TiO2 catalysts using TTIP.

  • Cylindrical stainless-steel/sodium heat pipe for a high-temperature solar thermal application was manufactured and tested for transient and steady-state operations. Two layers of stainless-steel screen mesh wick was inserted as a capillary structure. The outer diameter of the heat pipe was 12.7 mm and the total length was 250 mm. The effective heat transport length, the thermal load, and the operating temperature were varied as thermal transport conditions of the heat pipe. The thermal load was supplied by an electric furnace up to 1kW and the cooling was performed by forced convection of air The effective thermal conductivity and the thermal resistance were investigated as a function of heat flux, heat transport length, and vapor temperature. Typical range of the total effective thermal conductivity was as low as 43,500 W/m K for heat flux of 176.4 kW/$m^2$ and of operating temperature of 1000 K.

  • A coolant operating condition in al fuel cell stack was an important factor to determine the temperature distribution which affected the fuel cell performance and relative humidity. In this study, the fuel cell performance was evaluated as a function of the coolant flow rate with the range of $0.1{\sim}0.8$ liter/min cell and the coolant inlet temperature of $20{\sim}82^{\circ}C$. The cell temperature increased with increasing the coolant inlet temperature and with decreasing the coolant flow rate. The coolant inlet temperature and flow rate to maintain the better performance of the fuel cell were in the range of $45{\sim}60^{\circ}C$ and $0.2{\sim}0.4$ liter/min cell, respectively. The experimental results showed that the optimal heat removal rate from the stack by coolant was $0.4{\sim}0.6W/cm^2$ cell.

  • The precipitation effect of Al-6%Si-0.4%Mg-0.9%Cu-(Ti) alloy (in wt.%) after various heat treatments was studied using a laser flash device (LFA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Solid solution treatment was performed at 535 ℃ for 6 h, followed by water cooling, and samples were artificially aged in air at 180 ℃ and 220 ℃ for 5 h. The titanium-free alloy Al-6%Si-0.4%Mg-0.9%Cu showed higher thermal diffusivity than did the Al-6%Si-0.4%Mg-0.9%Cu-0.2%Ti alloy over the entire temperature range. In the temperature ranges below 200 ℃ and above 300 ℃, the value of thermal diffusivity decreased with increasing temperature. As the sample temperature increased between 200 ℃ and 400 ℃, phase precipitation occurred. From the results of DSC analysis, the temperature dependence of the change in thermal diffusivity in the temperature range between 200 ℃ and 400 ℃ was strongly influenced by the precipitation of θ'-Al2Cu, β'-Mg2Si, and Si phases. The most important factor in the temperature dependence of thermal diffusivity was Si precipitation.

  • Use of acetonitrile in electrolytes promotes better operation of supercapacitors. Recent efforts show that electrolytes containing acetonitrile can also function in a wide range of operating temperatures. Therefore, this paper addresses the dielectric relaxation processes, structure and dynamic properties of the bulk acetonitrile at various temperatures. Systems of acetonitrile were modeled using canonical ensemble and simulated by employing Molecular Dynamics method. Results show that interactions among the molecules were correlated within a cut-off radius while parallel and anti-parallel arrangements are observed beyond this radius at relatively high and low temperatures respectively. Furthermore, effects of C-C-N and C-H bending modes were greatly appreciated on the power spectral density of time rate change of dipole-dipole correlations whereas frequency shifts were observed on all modes at the lowest temperature under consideration. Linear variations with temperature were depicted for reorientation times and self-diffusion coefficients. Shear viscosity was also computed with a good accuracy within a certain range of the temperature as well.

  • The experiment was conducted to measure temperature and pressure around operating portable butane gas ranges with oversized cookwares. In this experiment, portable butane gas range with different safety equipment and two kinds of oversized cookware, each of which is made of aluminum alloy and rock, was used. As a result, temperature of the bottom of the butane and the pressure of butane barrel tend to aligned with each other. Through this result, it is reasonable that a safety criteria can be decided based on the temperature of the bottom of butane. Especially, portable butane gas ranges are safely conducted under the condition of the temperature is under 50 degree and pressure is under 500 kPa, respectively, at the bottom of the butane barrel.

  • In this study we carried out athermalization analysis and tests to meet the required optical performance for thennal imaging systems even if the systems were operating over a wide temperature range. By using optical design programs such as Code- V and SIGMA2100, the simulation for athermalization was done with FPA thermal imaging system. In the athermalization test putting the thermal imaging system and collimator into a temperature chamber, the images depending on the temperature were recorded on video tape. In particular, the zoom thermal imaging system with two dimensional array detector was tested to check the result of the athermalization simulation. As a result, it was proved to meet the required optical performance for the thermal imaging system within $-32-+50^{\circ}C$ temperature range. range.

  • IPMSM for traction motor has high power density and wide operating range. But high power density causes internal temperature rise and it makes big armature reaction which causes irreversible demagnetization. And with wide operating range, rotor rotating fast gets stress from centrifugal force. For this reason, traction motor is designed to considerate stress of rotor and irreversible demagnetization for reliability. This paper explains shape design method of 120kW IPMSM accounting improvement of reliability. Finally, the validity of the analysis and the performance evaluation were verified through testing of the final model.

  • Stainless steel ball bearings are used in the control element drive mechanism and driving mechanisms such as step motor and gear boxes for the integral nuclear reactor, SMART. The bearings operate in pressurized pure water (primary coolant) at high temperature and should be lubricated with only this water because it is impossible to supply greases or any additional lubricant since the whole nuclear rector system should be perfectly sealed and the coolant cannot contain ingredients for bearing lubrication. Temperature of water changes from room temperature to about 120 degree Celsius and pressure rises up to 15MPa in the nuclear reactor. It can be anticipated that the frictional characteristics of the ball bearings changes according to the operating conditions, however little data are available in the literature. It is found that friction coefficient of 440C stainless steel itself does not change sharply according to temperature variation from the former research, and the friction coefficient is about 0.45 at low speed range. In this research frictional characteristics of the assembled ball bearings are investigated. A special tribometer is used to simulate the axial loading and the bearing operating conditions, temperature and pressure in the driving mechanism in the nuclear reactor. Highly purified water is used as lubricant ‘ and the water is heated up to 120 degree Celsius and pressurized to 15MPa. Friction force is monitored by the torque transducer.
