  • This study aims at developing the high speed/intelligent machining system suing the plug/play method of an open architecture controller. The plug/play technology by the Application Specific Function (ASF), can readily implement the open architecture controller into various machining system or other automatic equipments. For the open architecture controller, this study developed the open HMI, screen editor, ASF, visual builder, and controller OS technology as software components. On the other hand, we developed the I/O module and main board as control hardware system. This study, as an example, presents integration of individual component technologies for the plug/play type open architecture CNC system.

  • This paper addresses an Intelligent Agent-based Open Architecture Cell Controller for Intelligent Manufacturing System(IMS). With an Intelligent Agent approach, the IMS will be a independent, autonomous, distributed system and achieve a adaptability to change of manufacturing environment. As the development methodology of Open Architecture Cell Controller, an object-oriented modeling technique is employed for building models associated with IMS operation, such as resource model, product model, and control model. Intelligent Agent-based Open Architecture Cell Controller consists of two kinds of dependant agents, that are the active agent and the coordinator agent. The Active agent is contributed to control components of IMS in real-time. The coordinator agent has great role in scheduling and planning of IMS. It communicates with other active agents to get information about status on system and generates the next optimal task through the making-decision logic and dispatch it to other active agent.

  • Coordinate measuring machines(CMMs) are used to obtain the dimensional information with micron accuracy. This paper is concerned with the development of the horizontal arm type coordinate measuring machine using open architecture controller. The coordinate measuring machine considered in this paper consists of three orthogonal axes in the x, y and z directions. Open architecture controller IS used to implement a measuring system which can be fulfill to various needs of endusers of coordinate measuring machines. The open architecture controller presented here is embodied in personal computers. The programs and man-machine interfaces(MM1) are developed for various measuring conditions. Through the computer simulation based on the mathematical models of the coordinate measuring machine, control parameters are optimally tuned.

  • This paper presents an open architecture controller (OAC) for machining systems and describes the OAC testbed at Seoul National University. Because our OAC is designed for fully open systems, it does not depend on any specific hardware or software components. This openness includes software reusability which enables integration of a wide range of monitoring and control features. In addition to openness, our OAC system provides guaranteed real-time performance, an important requirement for advanced manufacturing.

  • In the manufacturing industries, agility and flexibility are the key issues to meet the various market demands. From this point of view, open architecture control has many advantages. This paper suggests a real-time Linux-based open architecture controller. Linux-based and windows-based controllers are compared in several aspects, and Linux is shown to be advantageous over the windows. With the user friendly GUI, the suggested controller is applied to the X-Y stage which is made of two linear motors. Path following and repeatability performances are successfully observed, which shows the validity of the suggested controller.

  • The conventional CNC(Computerized Numerical Controller) of machine tool, which is dependent to CNC maker, was a closed architecture type. Therefore, it is impossible to implement a special user-define function to CNC. But recently, CNC is changed to OAC(Open Architecture Controller) type increasingly and the general function of CNC can be upgrade efficiently. This paper describes web service application for remote monitoring regarding the faults or machine tool with open architecture CNC. The major faults of CNC machine tool can be defined to the operational faults to be charged over 70%. Those faults are unpredictable because of being occurred without any warning. To generalize the fault diagnosis efficiently. two diagnosis models such as SF(Switching Function) and SSF(Step Switching Function) are proposed and the function of fault diagnosis is implemented to internal function of OAC. Also, to service remotely the faults of CNC machine tool. the suitable web environment is proposed and practical function is programmed to evaluate its operation on web.

  • This paper present a robot controller developed for shipbuilding yard. Since shipbuilding process handles large work pieces and has dusty and noisy environment, the developed controller has separated architecture into main control part and servo control part. Main control part is located in control room while servo control part is located near robot with work pieces. Commutation between two parts is done through SynqNet and RS485. Air purging system is adapted to servo control part for better reliability. We aimed open architecture in both hardware and software architecture. For open hardware architecture, we employed Compact PCI (cPCI) because it is widely used bus system and very reliable. Since lots of commercial boards are available with cPCI interface, upgrade and reconfiguration is easy. For open software architecture, Windows XP�� Embedded is selected as operating system (OS), because it is very popular OS and most hardware vender supports device driver for the windows XP.

  • This paper presents some ideas about an open architectural controller platform for semiconductor manufacturing equipment First, we proposed modular-typed software architecture. Each module is composed of commands and status sets. Second, common bus protocol is suggested in order to communicate with other modules. It is designed with visual c++ programming. Finally, job program is consisted of simple commands and status. Consequently, Controllers are easily developed with some required modular assembling.

  • This paper deals with the design and implementation of an open architecture CNC system for Wire-EDM, with a consideration of the difference between Wire-EDM and NC cutting machines. Recent open architecture controller(OAC) related research results could be applied to directly access Wire-EDM systems at the CNC level. However, previous research about OAC is mostly aimed at NC cutting machines such as milling or lathes, and hence these results are inadequate to apply to Wire-EDM. To close the gap between previous general research on OAC and Wire-EDM specific needs, an open architecture NC model for Wire-EDM composed of a synchronization kernel and a NC functional module is proposed. Based on the control information flow and Wire-EDM specific machining process, the conceptual CNC model and the detailed implementation model for Wire-EDM is suggested.

  • This paper describes the design and implementation of PCOAMC(PC-based Open Architecture Machine Controller) to be flexible and independent from the vendor-oriented hardware and software structure. This openness approach is able to enhance an intelligence and integration of a manufacturing system. The development methodology of PcOAMC is an Object-Oriented approach, and all modules in PcOAMC are modelled using UML(Unified Modelling Language) that provides an easy understanding and modification. In order to demonstrate an applicability of PcOAMC, a simple test has been executed by using the Client-Server system consisting of two PcOAMCS and bus monitoring system. The good results have been obtained, so that the developed controller is expected to be embedded into IMS(Intelligent Manufacturing System) as a basic unit.
