Design and Implementation of 3D Geospatial Open Platform Based on HTML5/WebGL Technology (HTML5/WebGL 기반 3D 공간정보 오픈플랫폼 소프트웨어 설계 및 구현)

  • Recently, the utilization of geospatial open platforms has been constantly increased and the interest in 3D geospatial data such as terrain, building and shopping mall has been increased significantly. In particular, rather than simplified 3D geospatial data, interest in high-precision 3D geospatial data which similarly represents the real world objects has increased significantly. In order to satisfy the demand for such the high-precision 3D geospatial data, various kinds of 3D geospatial open platforms has been developed and has provided services on the web. However, most of the 3D geospatial open platforms have been used plug-in module in order to ensure a fast 3D rendering performance on the web, despite the many problems such as difficulty of the installation, no supporting of cross browser/operating system and security issues. In addition, recently, the existing 3D geospatial open platforms based on plug-in module are facing a serious problem, by declaring the NPAPI service interruption in Chrome and Firefox browsers. In this study, we presents the design and implementation of a new 3D geospatial open platform based on HTML5/WebGL technology without the use of plug-ins. Such the new 3D geospatial open platform based on HTML5/WebGL may support cross browsers such as IE, Chrome, Firefox, Safari and cross OS platforms such as Windows, Linux, Mac and mobile OS platforms.

Investigation on the Difficulties During Middle School Students' Finding Inquiry Topics on Open-Inquiry Activities (중학교 학생들의 자유탐구활동 중 주제선정단계에서 나타난 어려움 조사)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the difficulties in engaging in open-inquiry activities - especially finding inquiry topics for student themselves. Data were collected from in-depth interviews with 11 middle school students and their open-inquiry worksheets from 4 months of activities. The investigation tools were composed of three domains for topic choice: selecting subjects, making 10 questions, and choosing a topic with the 10 questions. The study revealed that middle school students have difficulties in the domain of 'object selection' and 'finding inquiry topic.' Under the object selection domain, they showed burden of selection of unlimited subject, lack of knowledge on the science object, and lack of interest in object. Under the domain of finding inquiry topic, they have difficulties from their selected topics that were non-scientific, focus only on interest, lack of background information or those that could be resolved by short answers. Each student has difficulty in doing open-inquiry with relatively different seriousness. The findings suggested that an open inquiry program should be provided along with a systematic guide program on finding inquiry topic for open-inquiry activities to be a successful and continual performance gauge.

Development of Mathematical CAI program Model And Its Application (수학과 CAI프로그램 모형 개발과 적용)

  • Two different CAI programs have been developed to study the affect of CAI element for the types of learners'performance; (i) one is the 'CAI program 1' including the open questions for the fourth grade (the fourth period of the 'Time and Angle' in chapter 3 of the first term) of the mathematics class in the elementary school, and (il) the other is 'CAI program 2' for the existing methods. The fourth grade of Andong Songhyun elementary school has been chosen as the study subjects (243 learners), and the t-test and learners'interview have also been used to analysis the results of CAI programs. The CAI programs have only been used as the control variable. The developed CAI programs have been applied two different learners'groups to investigate the degree of performance among the superior, average, and inferior learners. For the superior group (p<.0023) at the t<3.2268 level and for the average group (p<.0706) at the t<1.8211 level the learner' group using CAI program 1 shows the higher performance compared with the learners' group using the CAI program 2, whereas fur the inferior group (p<.8073) at the t<.2458 level two programs did not show any difference. The learners interviews show that the superior and average groups have an interest for the open problems, whereas the inferior group do not shows an interest for the open problems. Thus, the CAI programs including the open questions (open fields, open evaluation) will be helped to the learners' group with the individual differences. Furthermore, it is expected that the CAI programs including the open questions as the mathematics and the program model of CAI can be used to develope the CAI program in future.

Optimal Pricing Strategies for Open Source Support Providers

  • The market for commercial open source software (OSS) has been rapidly growing with the proliferation of OSS. One way to commercialize OSS is the support model, which has been adopted by leading OSS firms such as Red Hat and JBoss. Despite the growing interest in OSS commercialization, little research has provided OSS support providers with a pricing guideline. In this paper, we examine the optimal pricing strategies for OSS support providers. Our benchmark is a monopoly case in which we investigate a startup software vendor's incentive to choose the OSS support regime over the proprietary one. Then we extend the model to a duopoly case in which OSS under the support regime competes against proprietary software. We characterize the conditions under which the OSS support model is viable under competition. We believe that our results offer insights to the OSS vendors who consider commercializing their OSS with a support model.

User Resistance in the Adoption of Open Source Software

  • The emergence of open source software (OSS) with its successful projects and its most prominent advantages creates a vast interest among academics and practitioners. However, it has been found that focusing on the developments of OSS to be successful is not adequate and the adoption of OSS by uses is also very important. Although there are a great number of useful and easy to use OSS has been developed, the adoption of OSS and usage in the market is very low. Based on the technology equity implementation model (EIM), this study examines user resistance in the adoption of OSS (i.e., switching from the current system to OSS). A survey has done regarding the adoption of Linux as the case of study. We have found that user resistance to change has negative effect on adoption intention, and switching benefits, switching costs and perceived value have significant relationships with user resistance to change.

Optimal Monetary Policy and Exchange Rate in a Small Open Economy with Unemployment

  • In this paper, we consider a small open economy under the New Keynesian model with unemployment of Gal$\acute{i}$ (2011a, b) to discuss the design of the monetary policy. Our findings can be summarized in three parts. First, even with the existence of unemployment, the optimal policy is to minimize variance of domestic price inflation, wage inflation, and the output gap when both domestic price and wage are sticky. Second, stabilizing unemployment rate is important in reducing the welfare loss incurred by both technology and labor supply shocks. Therefore, introducing the unemployment rate as an another argument into the Taylor-rule type interest rate rule will be welfare-enhancing. Lastly, controlling CPI inflation is the best option when the policy is not allowed to respond to unemployment rate. Once the unemployment rate is controlled, however, stabilizing power of CPI inflation-based Taylor rule is diminished.

Inspecting Monetary Policy Rules in a Small Open Economy with Financial Frictions

  • In this paper, we address how the monetary authority should react to financial market status and exchange rate movements in a small open economy New Keynesian model with financial frictions due to asymmetric information between savers and borrowers. We show that the small economy with financial frictions is more susceptible to the exogenous shocks under the fixed exchange rate regime than under the flexible exchange regime. The small economy experiences a more prolonged and deeper economic recession under the fixed exchange rate regime than under the flexible exchange rate regime. The monetary policy taking into account external finance premium is better than the interest rate rule without considering the financial market status.

A design of automatic trading system by dynamic symbol using global variables (전역 변수를 이용한 유동 심볼 자동 주문 시스템의 설계)

  • This paper designs the dynamic symbol automatic trading system in Korean option market. This system is based on Multichart program which is convenient and efficient system trading tool. But the Multichart has an important restriction which has only one constant symbol per chart. This restriction causes very useful strategies impossible. The proposed design uses global variables, signal chart selection and position order exchange. So an automatic trading system with dynamic symbol works on Multichart program. To verify the proposed system, BS(Buythensell)-SB(Sellthenbuy) strategies are tested which uses the change of open-interest of stock index futures within a day. These strategies buy both call and put option in ATM at start candle and liquidate all at 12 o'clock and then sell both call and put option in ATM at 12 o'clock and also liquidate all at 14:40. From 23 March 2009 to 31 May 2010, 301-trading days, is adopted for experiment. As a result, the average daily profit rate of this simple strategies riches 1.09%. This profit rate is up to eight times of commision price which is 0.15 % per option trade. If the method which raises the profitable rate of wining trade or lower commission than 0.15% is found, these strategies make fascinated lossless trading system which is based on the proposed dynamic symbol automatic trading system.

The method research and the development of teaching-learning materials by using GSP (function and geometry in middle school math) (GSP를 이용한 수학과 교수-학습을 위한 자료 개발 및 방법 연구 - 중학교 함수, 기하분야를 중심으로)

  • Recently our educational methodologies have been changed to an open, student-centered structure. Mathematics is now learned through experiential interaction and less emphasis is placed on abstract theories. For example, the axioms of the geometry in the middle school curriculum have been expressed by using symbolic letters. Students find these abstractions very difficult and it hinders their ability to grasp the significance of geometrical concepts. In an effort to simplify these abstract concepts and enhance the students interest and ability to learn, the GSP (Geometry Sketchpad) is proving to be a useful and effective tool. First, Second and third grade students have found the GSP to be extremely useful. While the pad has no sound function it still enables the students to freely change diagrams without disrupting the integrity of the program. There is also a running order of instructions at the bottom of the screen to facilitate the step by step understanding of mathematical procedures. This function makes the program ideal for use by teachers, students and even beginners. Anyone experiencing difficulty can get immediate assistance from the guidebook which is located at the back of each program. Allowing individuals to manipulate and actually see the changing deductions and axiom proofs on the computer screen provides them with immediate feedback and reinforcement. It also enhances their overall interest in learning geometry. The use of the GSP is proving to be an innovative and effective tool in facilitating the transition of mathematics into an open, student-centered educational forum.

PCRM: Increasing POI Recommendation Accuracy in Location-Based Social Networks

  • Nowadays with the help of Location-Based Social Networks (LBSNs), users of Point-of-Interest (POI) recommendation service in LBSNs are able to publish their geo-tagged information and physical locations in the form of sign-ups and share their experiences with friends on POI, which can help users to explore new areas and discover new points-of-interest, and promote advertisers to push mobile ads to target users. POI recommendation service in LBSNs is attracting more and more attention from all over the world. Due to the sparsity of users' activity history data set and the aggregation characteristics of sign-in area, conventional recommendation algorithms usually suffer from low accuracy. To address this problem, this paper proposes a new recommendation algorithm based on a novel Preference-Content-Region Model (PCRM). In this new algorithm, three kinds of information, that is, user's preferences, content of the Point-of-Interest and region of the user's activity are considered, helping users obtain ideal recommendation service everywhere. We demonstrate that our algorithm is more effective than existing algorithms through extensive experiments based on an open Eventbrite data set.
