A Study on Comparative Analysis for Competitiveness of Success Factors of the Platform Business (플랫폼비즈니스 성공요소의 경쟁력 비교 분석에 관한 연구)

  • The importance of platform businesses in the global market is growing, but in Korea, platform businesses with a global competitive edge are rare. This study compared the competitiveness of the local and international platform businesses by analyzing the six success factors of platform businesses. It surveyed 104 professionals in ICT regarding the competitiveness of SNS services (Kakao Talk, Facebook), mobile payment systems (Samsung Pay, Apply Pay), digital content (Naver, YouTube), online shopping (G Market, Amazon) and education (K-MOOC, MOOC). In sum, the local platform business sector, compared to its U.S. counterpart, is lagging behind in creativity, value creation, cost reduction, networking effects and the ability to build, change and develop new ecosystems.

  • This study is a review on the educational methodologies of junior colleges for nurturing health and medical administration experts. As non-face-to-face classes increase due to the pandemic and various online classes are being conducted, the rejection of virtual education is decreasing. The concept of 'metaverse', first used in 1992, is changing from metaverse 1.0 to metaverse 2.0 as of 2021. Metaverse is judged to be able to positively derive the educational effect of online education through four methodologies: VR(Virtual Reality), AR(Augmented Reality), Life Logging, and Mirror World. This study aims to design an education platform that realizes professional education that transcends time and space by establishing the same university in the form of a mirror world or virtual reality in the virtual reality metaverse, and opening a department of health and medical administration. In addition, It is researchwhen metaverse virtual universities and virtual departments are created for each university, students can cross-take courses offered by each university and purchase or share open courses to take new educational topics for common subjects.

Development of Online Quantum Chemistry Experiment Environment Based on Computational Science Platform (계산과학플랫폼 기반 온라인 양자화학 실험 환경 개발)

  • This paper introduces an online experiment environment based on a computational science platform that can be used for various purposes ranging from basic education to quantum chemistry and professional quantum chemistry research. The simulation environment was constructed using a simulation workbench and simulation workflow, which are execution environment services of Science App provided by the computational science platform. We developed an environment in which learners can learn independently without an instructor by selecting experiment topics that can be used in various areas of chemistry, and offering the learning materials of the topics in a form of e-learning content that includes theory and simulation exercises. To verify the superiority of the proposed system, it was compared with WebMO, a state-of-the-art web-based quantum chemistry simulation service.

Understanding the Entertainment Values in the Online Educational Videos

  • Since the inception of the platform business in educational contents, the prominence of the online educational video has flipped the educational environment. Educational contents have been produced on the internet and allowed learners to access more flexible and student-centered. In fact, the number of people watching the educational content online, such as TED talks and YouTube, has increased during the past decade. The ways of delivering the lecture and the course information in online educational videos are totally different from the traditional lectures. In this paper, we aimed to examine and categorize the online educational videos based on the user's engagement and interest in the course contents. For the study, a negative binomial regression analysis was applied to estimate the effects of the attributes of the traditional lectures by comparatively analyzing the educational videos online. Several values are determined as engaging factors in the online educational videos; hybrid production of education and entertainment, shorter duration, and the number of presenters. From the study, we suggests how to produce engaging educational contents which will appeal the attentions from the users. Moreover, the result of the study may use as a guide to the providers making the productive educational videos.

Implications for Teacher Education through Pre-Service Science Teachers' Perception and Practice Cases on Online Formative Assessment (온라인 형성평가에 대한 예비 과학교사의 인식과 실행 사례를 통해 살펴본 교사 교육의 시사점)

  • This study aims to reveal what is necessary for pre-service science teachers to make good use of online formative assessment in the context of online classes. For 22 pre-service physics teachers, first, the preliminary perception of online classes, online formative assessment, and formative assessment was investigated; second, the practice process of online formative assessment was examined. Then the differences between perception and practice were compared and analyzed. Data were collected in preliminary surveys, lesson plans, online formative assessment items, and interview data. As a result of the study, an interaction was mentioned as the difficulty of online classes in the preliminary perception, and pre-service teachers mentioned the use of technology, feedback, and adjustment as advantages of online formative assessment. In most cases of practice, the automated feedback was used using the platform's technology, but it did not lead to adjustment and interaction. In addition, the use of items in online formative assessment was not suitable for formative functions. The reason why the interaction using formative feedback did not occur seems to be because the understanding of formative assessment was insufficient. Pre-service teachers need to be prepared for the 'formative' function through the feedback of online formative assessment so that can lead to interaction in online classes. The shift to online classes is creating difficulties, especially in interaction. It is necessary to prepare and educate pre-service teachers on fundamental aspects that can overcome these difficulties.

Cultural Sensitivity and Design Implications of MOOCs from Korean Learners' Perspectives: Case Studies on edX and Coursera

  • Culture is a crucial concept that forms the thinking and behaviors of a group of people, and it influences interactions in learning. Thus, it is also essential to consider cultural sensitivity in online learning technologies and instructional design as education is a set of learning actions based on values and perceptions. MOOCs, the latest online learning platform, are global online learning platforms that provide global learners with free and various learning resources including courses from different world-class institutions. Despite globalization having brought learners closer to sharing similar learning resources, the actual experiences with the resource are expected to vary according to cultures, mainly because learning behavior is a set of outcomes based on cultural differences. Taking this into consideration, this study aims to examine MOOCs from a cultural perspective in order to facilitate global learners, especially Korean learners, to utilize MOOCs with user-friendly services and contents. To achieve this objective, the study first identified and developed an evaluation criteria to examine the cultural sensitivity of MOOCs and conducted case studies on courses from major MOOC providers including edX and Coursera. From the findings, design recommendations of contents and courses on MOOCs were suggested to provide Korean learners with optimal learning experiences.

Creation of a Voice Recognition-Based English Aided Learning Platform

  • In hopes of resolving the issue of poor quality of information input for teaching spoken English online, the study creates an English teaching assistance model based on a recognition algorithm named dynamic time warping (DTW) and relies on automated voice recognition technology. In hopes of improving the algorithm's efficiency, the study modifies the speech signal's time-domain properties during the pre-processing stage and enhances the algorithm's performance in terms of computational effort and storage space. Finally, a simulation experiment is employed to evaluate the model application's efficacy. The study's revised DTW model, which achieves recognition rates of above 95% for all phonetic symbols and tops the list for cloudy consonant recognition with rates of 98.5%, 98.8%, and 98.7% throughout the three tests, respectively, is demonstrated by the study's findings. The enhanced model for DTW voice recognition also presents higher efficiency and requires less time for training and testing. The DTW model's KS value, which is the highest among the models analyzed in the KS value analysis, is 0.63. Among the comparative models, the model also presents the lowest curve position for both test functions. This shows that the upgraded DTW model features superior voice recognition capabilities, which could significantly improve online English education and lead to better teaching outcomes.

  • With the advent of the 4th industrial revolution, the need for artificial intelligence education has increased. The online learning environment caused by COVID-19 made it possible to use variety of artificial intelligence platforms. In this study, an aritificial intelligence class plan was developed and proposed to achieve the goal of artificial intelligence education using an AI platform. The AI platform used is AI for Oceans, With the theme of creating a program for the environment, designed a 6-hour project class using Novel Engineering-based on STEAM model. Students experience AI for Oceans enough time and learn supervised learning by experience. Based on understanding of supervised learning, students design their own programs for the environment using Entry's AI blocks. In this study, for AI convergence education, this lesson was developed and presented with the goal of acquiring the creative problem solving ability and integrated thinking ability by using the principles of artificial intelligence to solve problems.

Reproduction based Multi-Contents Distribution Platform

  • As the use of smart devices is being increased rapidly by the development of internet and IT technology, the contents production and utilization rate are showing higher increase, too. In addition, the type of contents also shows very diverse forms such as education, game, video, UCC, etc. In the meantime, the contents are reproduced in diverse forms by reprocessing the original contents, and they are being serviced through the contents service platform. Therefore, the platform to make the contents reprocessing easy and fast is needed. As the diverse contents distribution channels such as YouTube, SNS, App Service, etc, easier contents distribution platform is needed, and the development of the relevant area is expected. In addition, as the selective consumption of the contents having easy accessibility through diverse smart devices is distinguished, the demand for the platform and service that can identify the contents consumption propensity by individual is being increased. Therefore, in this study, to vitalize the online contents distribution, the contents reproduction and publishing platform, was designed and materialized, which can reproduce and distribute the contents based on the real-time contents editing technology in URL unit and the consumer propensity analysis technology using the data management-based broadcasting contents distribution metadata technology and the edited image contents streaming technology. In addition, in the results of comparing with other platforms through the experiment, the performance superiority of the suggested platform was verified. If the suggested platform is applied to the areas of education, broadcasting, press, etc, the multi-media contents can be reproduced and distributed easily, through which the vitalization of contents-related industry is expected.

  • 2018년 현재 한국과학기술정보연구원(KISTI)은 계산과학공학 플랫폼 기반으로 온라인 시뮬레이션이 가능한 EDISON(EDucation-research Integration through Simulation On the Net) 서비스를 제공하고 있다. 해당 플랫폼 서비스는 7개 전문분야(전산의학, 전산설계, 전산열유체, 구조동역학, 계산화학, 나노물리, 도시환경)의 학생 및 연구자들이 학습 및 시뮬레이션을 실행하고 결과를 활용할 수 있도록 지원하고 있다. 하지만 EDISON 플랫폼은 시뮬레이션 서비스에 초점을 맞춰 개발과 서비스를 제공했기 때문에 국내외 MOOC(Massive Open Online Course) 서비스들에 비해 아직 교육 콘텐츠가 부족하다. 그리하여 본 논문에서는 계산과학공학 플랫폼에 교육 콘텐츠를 체계적으로 제공하기 위한 커리큘럼 서비스를 설계 및 제안하였다.
