  • In this paper, we proposed an improved weakly-coupled power divider(TAP UNIT) for CATV and/or MATV systems, by which the degree of freedom in design and density of coupling interval are signifcantly increased compared with the intrinsic one even though the turn ratios are still of discrete values. On the other hand, the new design theory of a generalized n-way power divider with arbitrary dividing ratios, for CATV and/or MATV systems, which consists of ideal multiwinding transformers and resistors only was presented. Since the circuit elements is not frequency dependent, the proposed power divider is to be of considerably broad bandwidth. Furthermore, the experimental verification has been achieved, and, hence, the validity of the design theory proposed here is confirmed.

  • The dynamic coupling between shaker and test-article has been investigated by recent research through the so called Virtual Shaker Testing (VST) approach. Basically a VST model includes the mathematical models of the test-item, of the shaker body, of the seismic mass and the facility vibration control algorithm. The subsequent coupled dynamic simulation even if more complex than the classical hard-mounted sine test-prediction, is a closer representation of the reality and is expected to be more accurate. One of the most remarkable benefits of VST is the accurate quantification of the frequency down-shift (with respect to the hard-mounted value), typically affecting the first lateral resonance of heavy test-items, like medium or large size Spacecraft (S/Cs), once mounted on the shaker. In this work, starting from previous successful VST experiences, the parameters having impact on the frequency shift are identified and discussed one by one. A simplified analytical system is thus defined to propose an efficient and effective way of calculating the lower bound frequency shift through a simple equation. Such equation can be useful to correct the S/C lateral natural frequency measured during the test, in order to remove the contribution attributable to the shaker in use. The so-corrected frequency value becomes relevant when verifying the compliance of the S/C w.r.t. the frequency requirement from the Launcher Authority. Moreover, it allows to perform a consistent post-test correlation of the first lateral natural frequency of S/C FE model.

  • Lean premixed combustion has been considered as one of the promising solutions for the reduction of NOx emissions from gas turbines. However, unstable combustion of lean premixed flow becomes a real challenge on the way to design a reliable, highly efficient dry low NOx gas turbine combustor. Contrary to a conventional diffusion type combustion system, characteristics of premixed combustion significantly depend on a premixing degree of combusting flow. Combustion behavior in terms of stability has been studied in a model gas turbine combustor burning natural gas and air. Incompleteness of premixing is identified as significant perturbation source for inducing unstable combustion. Application of a simple convection time lag theory can only predict instability modes but cannot determine whether instability occurs or not. Low frequency perturbations are observed at the onset of instability and believed to initiate the coupling between heat release rate and pressure fluctuations.

  • This work presents the numerical investigation of an unsteady cavitating flow around a balancing drum of a multistage pump. The main attention is focused on the cavitation phenomena, which occur in the rear part of the drum clearance, cause the erosion of the drum material and influence the pressure losses and the flow rate through the clearance. The one-way coupling of the URANS equations and the full Rayleigh-Plesset equation is employed to analyse the flow field as well as the dynamics of cavitating bubbles. The numerical simulations show that the erosion processes are highly influenced by shaft vibrations, namely by periodic deformations of the annular clearance in time. The calculated results are verified by erosion tests on a real pump.

  • One of the crucial factors which determine the quality and the accuracy of SEA model is how subsystems are defined. Experimental SEA technique had been a unique way to divide entire systems accurately for mid-frequency range, until FEA based virtual FRF response technique, virtual SEA method presented. Virtaul SEA has been developed for predictive SEA tool in early design process. In this study, Modal analysis results from modified crash FE model is used for Statistical transfer matrix. Observation nodes on the cockpit are grouped by attractive substructuring method based on point to point transfer and correlation matrix. Complex cockpit structure is divided into subsystems by automatic substructuring. Comparison with experimental SEA results validates the application of Virtual SEA to cockpit.

  • A numerical simulation for particle collection efficiency in a wire-plate electrostatic precipitator (ESP) has been performed. Method of characteristics and finite differencing method (MOC-FDM) were employed to obtain electric field and space charge density, and lattice boltzmann method (LBM) was used to predict the Electrohydrodynamic (EHD) flow according to the ion convection. Large eddy simulation (LES) was considered for turbulent flow and particle simulation was performed by discrete element method (DEM) which considered field charging, electric force, drag force and wall-collision. One way coupling from FDM to LBM was used with small and low density particle assumption. When the charged particle collided with the collecting plate, particle-wall collision was calculated for re-entertainment effect and the effect of gravity force was considered.

  • In the Lagrangian vortex particle method based on the vorticity-velocity formulation for solving the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, a numerical scheme for calculating pressure fields is presented. Implementation of the numerical method is directly connected with the well-established surface panel methods, just by dealing with the dynamic coupling among vorticity field. Assuming the vorticity and the velocity fields are to be calculated in time domain analysis, the pressure calculation for a complete set of solution at present time step is performed in a similar way to the one used in the Eulerian description. For a validation of the present method, we illustrate the early development of the viscous flow about an impulsive started circular cylinder for Reynolds number 550. The comparative study with the Eulerian finite Volume method provides an extensive understanding and application of the mesh-free Lagrangian vortex methods for numerical simulation of viscous flows around arbitrary bodies of general shape.

  • An anisotropic beam model is proposed by employing an asymptotic expansion method for thermo-mechanical multiphysics environment. An asymptotic method based on virtual work is introduced first, and then the variables of mechanical displacement and temperature rise are asymptotically expanded by taking advantage of geometrical slenderness of elastic bodies. Subsequently substituting these expansions into the virtual work principle allows us to asymptotically expand the virtual work. This will yield a set of recursive virtual works from which two-dimensional microscopic and one-dimensional macroscopic equations are systematically derived at each order. In this way, homogenized stiffnesses and thermomechanical coupling coefficients are derived. To demonstrate the validity and efficiency of the proposed approach, composite beams are taken as a test-bed example. The results obtained herein are compared to those of three-dimensional finite element analysis.

  • This paper presents a numerical study on tip vortex cavitation inception predictions based on non-spherical bubble dynamics including splitting and jet noise emission. A brief summary of the numerical method and its validation against a laboratory experiment are presented. The behavior of bubble nuclei is studied in a tip vortex flow field at two Reynolds numbers, provided by a viscous flow solver. The bubble behavior is simulated by an axisymmetric potential flow solver with the effect of surrounding viscous flow taken into account using one way coupling. The effects of bubble nucleus size and Reynolds number are studied. An effort to model the bubble splitting at lower cavitation numbers is also described.

  • In the Building Act, performance-based fire safety design is being promoted for institutionalization. The behavior of the structure against fire conditions can be predicted by using the advanced numerical analysis method based on the FEM (Finite Element Method) to predict the entire structural behavior including the behavior of the structure, but there is a limit to expressing the fire properties of the space and predicting the fire properties It is difficult to determine the variables to be transmitted to the FEM (Finite Element Method) model from the fire simulation results using FDS (Fire Dynamics Simulator). Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to introduce the code user's manual for FDS and FEM unidirectional coupling analysis.
