  • The locus of a camshaft supported on camshaft bearings has been investigated using transient method. Forces applied to camshaft are composed of two components, one is transfer force between cam and tappet, the other is frictional force. These forces have been calculated using lumped mass model and EHL theory. ADI method has been used for numerical analysis of Reynolds equation, and 4th order Runge-Kutta method has been used for transient journal locus analysis. The effects of various load conditions are presented in the form of journal locus. As the result of analysis, it is found that camshaft bearings exist in the hydrodynamic lubrication condition.

  • The camshaft locus at camshaft beating in a direct acting OHC valve train system has been investigated using the transient method. Forces applied to the camsfiaft are composed of two components, one is the transfer force between the cam and the tappet, the other is the frictional force. These forces have been calculated using the lumped mass model and the elastohydrodynamic lubrication theory. The alternating direction implicit method has been used for the numerical analysis of Reynolds equation, and 4th order Runge-Kutta method has been used for the transient journal locus analysis. The effects of various load conditions are presented in the form of journal locus. As a result of the analysis, it has been found that camshaft bearings were mainly in the hydrodynamic lubrication condition.

  • This paper presents a numerical dispersion relation for the two-dimensional finite-difference time-domain method based on the alternating-direction implicit time-marching scheme(2-D ADI-FDTD), which method has the potential to considerably reduce tile number of time iterations especially in case where the fine spatial lattice relative to the wavelength is used to resolve fine geometrical features. The proposed analytical relation for 2-D ADI-FDTD is compared with those relations in the Previous works. Through numerical tests, the dispersion equation of this work was shown as correct one for 2-D ADI-FDTD.

  • We have carried out high precision orbit calculation, by using various numerical techniques with accuracy of higher than fourth order, in order for exact prediction on position and velocity of celestial bodies and artificial satellites. General second order ordinary differential equation has been solved numerically to test the performance for each of numerical methods. We have compared computed values with exact solution obtained by using universal variables for two body problem and discussed overall results of numerical methods used in our calculation. As a result, it is found that high order difference table method called as Gauss-Jackson method is best one with easiness and efficiency in the increase of accuracy by number of initial values.

  • We first apply a first order splitting to a semilinear reaction-diffusion equation and then discretize the resulting system by an $H^1$-Galerkin mixed finite element method in space. This semidiscrete method yields a system of differential algebraic equations (DAEs) of index one. A priori error estimates for semidiscrete scheme are derived for both differ-ential as well as algebraic components. For fully discretization, an implicit Runge-Kutta (IRK) methods is applied to the temporal direction and the error estimates are discussed for both components. Finally, we conclude the paper with a numerical example.

  • A method is proposed which can be used to obtain the fibesr content distribution of compression molded long fiber-reinforced thermoplastic sheet for nonisothermal state. The fiber is modelled to be a sphere. Once the one-dimensional unsteady state heat conduction equation in solved, the mean temperature in defined across the thickness direction. The viscosity of matrix is determined with the mean temperature. Using the obtained viscosity, two-dimensional sheet0like part compression molding is simulated with the finite element method. Comparison with experiments shows that the method accurately predicts the distribution.

  • The thermal diffusivity one of the series of standard pieces for spark test are determined by the flash method. The standard pieces are composed with carbon steels, structural carbon steels, alloy steels and high speed tool steels. In order to compute the thermal conductivity of the standard pieces, their specific heats are measured by a differential scanning calorimeter. The thermal conductivities are calculated from the data of specific heat, density and thermal diffusivity. To increase the accuracy of data for the thermal diffusivity by data reduction excursion method in the flash method, the governing heat diffusion equation, which is closely described experimental conditions with the finite pulse and the heat loss from the sample surfaces, is solved. In this analysis an integral transform is used.

  • A procedure to analyse the space frame structure fixed at base as well as resting on sliding bearing using total or absolute displacement in dynamic equation is developed. In the present method, the effect of ground acceleration is not considered as equivalent force. Instead, the ground acceleration is considered as a known value in the acceleration vector at degree of freedom corresponding to base of the structure when the structure is in non-sliding phase. When the structure is in sliding phase, only a force equal to the maximum frictional resistance is applied at base. Also, in this method, the stiffness matrix, mass matrix and the damping matrix will not change when the structure enters from one phase to another. The results obtained from the present method using absolute displacement approach are compared with the results obtained from the analysis of structure using relative displacement approach. The applicability of the analysis is also demonstrated to obtain the response of the structure resting on sliding bearing with restoring force device.

  • Identification of asymmetry and anisotropy of rotor system is important for diagnosis of rotating machinery. Directional frequency response functions (dFRFs) are known to be powerful tool in effectively detecting the presence of asymmetry or anisotropy. In this paper, an estimation method of dFRFs for rotors is newly developed, when both asymmetry and anisotropy are present. The method transforms the finite degrees-of-freedom time-varying linear differential equation of motion to an infinite degree-of-freedom time-invariant linear one, employing the modulated coordinates. The validity of the method is demonstrated by numerical simulation with a simple rotor model.

  • In this study we are concerned with the problem of approximating a solution of a nonlinear equation in Banach space using Newton-like methods. Due to rounding errors the sequence of iterates generated on a computer differs from the sequence produced in theory. Using Lipschitz-type hypotheses on the second Frechet-derivative instead of the first one, we provide sufficient convergence conditions for the inexact Newton-like method that is actually generated on the computer. Moreover, we show that the ratio of convergence improves under our conditions. Furthermore, we provide a wider choice of initial guesses than before. Finally, a numerical example is provided to show that our results compare favorably with earlier ones.
