온라인 굴절계를 이용한 알코올 농도와 측정 (Concentration Measurement of Alcohol Solution Using an On-Line Refractometer)

  • An on-line refractometer made of easily obtainable materials is built to determine the concentration of an alcohol solution, and its performance is examined by applying to the system of ethanol and water. Since the refractive index and the temperature are measured simultaneously, it is possible to compensate the effect of temperature which is not available with an existing on-line refeactometer. Therefore, it can be implemented in the application of process control. The experimental outcome indicates that the home-made refractometer has satisfactory reproducibility and reasonable accuracy for the industrial application.

  • In the laser surface hardening process the geometrical parameters, especially the depth, of the hardened layer are utilized to assess the integrity of the hardening layer quality. Monitoring of this geometrical parameter ofr on-line process control as well as for on-line quality evaluation, however, is an extremely difficult problem because the hardening layer is formed beneath a material surface. Moreover, the uncertainties in monitoring the depth can be raised by the inevitable use of a surface coating to enhance the processing efficiency and the insufficient knowledge on the effects of coating materials and its thicknesses. The paper describes the extimation results using neural network to estimate the hardening layer depth from measured surface temperanture and process variables (laser beam power and feeding velocity) under various situations. To evaluate the effec- tiveness of the measured temperature in estimating the harding layer depth, estimation was performed with or without temperature informations. Also to investigate the effects of coating thickness variations in the real industry situations, in which the coating thickness cannot be controlled uniform with good precision, estimation was done over only uniformly coated specimen or various thickness-coated specimens. A series of hardening experiments were performed to find the relationships between the hardening layer depth, temperature and process variables. The estimation results show the temperature informations greatly improve the estimation accuracy over various thickness-coated specimens.

  • In this paper, a novel monitoring system, data acquisition & diagnosis unit (DADU), for high-voltage rotating machines is proposed. This system monitors the insulation condition, current, voltage, vibration, and temperature of the stator winding by on-line measurements of partial discharge (PD), flux, etc. This helps more efficient operation and maintenance of the rotating machines.

  • Optical emission spectroscopy is used to identify chemical species and monitor the changes of process results during the plasma process. However, plasma process monitoring or fault detection by using emission signal variation monitoring is vulnerable to background signal fluctuations. IR heaters are used in semiconductor manufacturing chambers where high temperature uniformity and fast response are required. During the process, the IR lamp output fluctuates to maintain a stable process temperature. This IR signal fluctuation reacts as a background signal fluctuation to the spectrometer. In this research, we evaluate the effect of infrared background signal fluctuation on plasma process monitoring and improve the plasma process monitoring accuracy by using simple infrared background signal subtraction method. The effect of infrared background signal fluctuation on plasma process monitoring was evaluated on $SiO_2$ PECVD process. Comparing the $SiO_2$ film thickness and the measured emission line intensity from the by-product molecules, the effect of infrared background signal on plasma process monitoring and the necessity of background signal subtraction method were confirmed.

  • On-line monitoring technique for the concentration of lactate by a FIA(Flow Injection Analysis) system was studied. The lactate oxidase(LOD) was immboilized on VA-Epoxy carrier and integrated into the FIA system. The pH, buffer flow rate and temperature for the LOD-FIA were optimized, and the effects of salts and metabolites dissolved in the sample on the activity of immobilized enzyme were investigated. The LOD-FIA has been applied to monitor the concentrations of lactate in a simulated bioprocess. The on-line monitoring data by the LOD-FIA agreed with the off-line data measured by a fluorescence spectroscopy well.

온도 모니터링을 위한 광섬유 센서와 온도센서 배열 케이블의 비교 연구 (A Study on the Comparison between an Optical Fiber and a Thermal Sensor Cable for Temperature Monitoring)

  • In this study, two different technologies which can measure temperature simultaneously at many points are introduced. One is to use a thermal sensor cable that is comprised of addressable thermal sensors connected in parallel within a single cable. The other is to use an optic fiber with Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS) system. The difference between two technologies can be summarized as follows. A thermal sensor cable has a concept of 'point sensing' that can measure temperature at accurate position of a thermal sensor. So the accuracy and resolution of temperature measurement are up to the ability of the thermal sensor. Whereas optic fiber sensor has a concept of 'distributed sensing' because temperature is measured by ratio of Stokes and anti-Stokes component intensities of Raman backscatter that is generated when laser pulse travels along an optic fiber. It's resolution is determined by measuring distance, measuring time and spatial resolution. The purpose of this study is that application targets of two temperature measurement techniques are checked in technical and economical phases by examining the strength and weakness of them. Considering the functions and characteristics of two techniques, the thermal sensor cable will be suitable to apply to the assessment of groundwater flow, geothermal distribution and grouting efficiency within 300m distance. It is expected that the optic fiber sensor can be widely utilized at various fields (for example: pipe line inspection, tunnel fire detection, power line monitoring etc.) which need an information of temperature distribution over relatively long distance.

  • 겨울철 저온환경에서 디젤 엔진의 점화를 지원하는 통합형연료히터의 활성화분석용 데이터 모니터랑 장치를 개발한다. 디젤엔진의 연료인 경유는 일정한 온도 이하로 내려가면 파라핀과 같은 반고체 상태인 왁싱(Waxing)물질을 형성하여 엔진시동이 잘 걸리지 않는다. 이러한 엔진점화의 시동성능 평가에 중요한 요소로 극저온에서 극고온사이 온도변화에 따른 엔진점화 시간, 히터 저항과 전류에 따른 지연시간 및 유압 등이 있다. 따라서 연료라인과 연료 히터간 활성화 동작을 분석하기 위해 센서 장치를 개발하고, 온도 및 압력 데이터를 모니터링하여 연료히터의 성능을 측정한다. 연료히터 연료라인의 온도와 압력에서 측정된 데이터는 모바일 기기를 사용하여 원격으로 데이터를 수집하고, 데이터 분석을 통해 연료히터의 문제점을 찾을 수 있는 장치의 유용성을 제시한다.

수직 라인 관측시스템을 이용한 제주 동부 해안대수층에서 해수침투 모니터링 평가 (Saltwater Intrusion Monitoring Evaluation through Automatic Vertical Line Method in a Costal Aquifer of the Eastern Part of Jeju Island)

  • Groundwater monitoring is commonly practiced with real-time sensors placed in several depth spots in aquifer. However, this method only provides monitoring data at the point where the sensors are installed. In this study, we developed a vertical line monitoring system (VLMS) that can provide continuous data of groundwater parameters along the vertical depth. The device was installed in a well located on the coast of the eastern part of Jeju island to monitor electrical conductivity, temperature, salinity, pH, dissolved oxygen, and oxidation-reduction potential over approximately 3 months from September 11 to December 3, 2020. The results indicated that the groundwater levels fluctuated with the tidal change of seawater level, and the upper and lower boundaries of the freshwater and saltwater zone in the groundwater were located at below 16 m and 36 m of mean sea level, respectively. There was a large variation in EC values during the high tide and temperature change was the greatest during flow tide. Although further investigation is needed for improvement of the device to obtain more accurate and reliable data, the device has a potential utility to provide fundamental data to understand the seawater intrusion and transport mechanisms in coastal aquifers.

고에너지 물질 시뮬란트의 분산도의 In-Line 모니터링 (In-Line Monitoring the Dispersion of Highly Energetic Material Simulant)

  • 고온용 초음파 측정 시스템을 장착한 이축압출기를 이용하여 고에너지 물질 시뮬란트의 분산도를 실시간으로 모니터링하는 연구를 하였다. 결합제 수지 및 충전제로 ethylene vinyl acetate(EVA)와 Dechlorane plus 25를 각각 사용하여 고에너지 물질 시뮬란트 현탁계를 구성하였다. 충전 부피분율이 증가함에 따라 현탁계의 초음파 속도는 전혀 변화를 보이지 않았으나 초음파 감쇠는 선형적으로 감소하였는 바 고르게 분산된 현탁계를 대상으로 초음파 감쇠를 측정하면 충전함량을 추정할 수 있음을 확인하였다. 또한 60 v% 이상으로 충전된 고농축 현탁계에서는 반복 압출실험을 수행한 결과 초음파 감쇠의 편차가 감소하여 직선값에 접근하는 경향을 보이는 바 분산도의 증가하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 on-line 및 in-line으로 측정된 초음파 감쇠와 off-line으로 SEM 및 Image Analyzer 그리고 열중량분석을 병행함으로써 분산도 및 충전 함량을 평가할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

온도 모니터링을 위한 광섬유 센서와 온도센서 배열 케이블의 비교 연구 (A Study on the Comparison between an Optical Fiber and a Thermal Sensor Cable for Temperature Monitoring)

  • 본 연구에서는 여러 지점의 온도를 동시에 측정할 수 있는 두 가지 온도 모니터링 기법을 소개하고 있다. 그 하나는 고유주소를 가지고 있는 온도센서로 구성된 온도센서 배열 케이블을 이용하는 기법이며, 다른 하나는 광섬유 센서를 이용하여 분포 온도를 측정하는 기법이다. 이 두 기법의 차이점은 다음과 같이 요약될 수 있다. 온도센서 배열 케이블은 온도센서가 위치하는 정확한 지점의 온도를 측정하게 된다. 그에 대한 온도 측정의 정밀도 및 분해능은 그 온도 센서의 성능에 따라 결정된다. 한편, 광섬유 센서는 레이저 펄스가 광섬유를 따라 보내질 때 생성되는 Raman 역산란파를 분석함으로써 온도를 측정하기 때문에 분포 개념의 온도를 측정하게 된다. 그에 대한 온도 분해능은 측정거리, 측정시간 및 온도측정 거리분해능에 따라 결정된다. 본 논문은 두 가지 온도 모니터링 시스템의 장단점을 비교함으로써 기술적이고 경제적인 측면에서 그의 응용분야를 면밀히 검토하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 두 기법을 이용한 다양한 실험을 실시하였다. 그 결과를 검토해 보면 온도센서 배열 케이블은 300m 범위 내의 지하수 흐름, 지열 분포 및 그라우팅 효과 검증에 적합할 것으로 판단되며 광섬유 센서는 상대적으로 긴 거리에 걸친 분포 온도에 대한 정보가 필요한 파이프 파인 감시, 터널 화재 감시 및 전력선 모니터링과 같은 분야에서 효율적으로 활용될 것이 기대된다.
