Silicon (Si) is one of the promising active materials to replace the widely used graphite because of its low electrochemical potential and high theoretical capacity. However, Si anodes still face in problems with the huge volume expansion and continuous decomposition of the electrolyte during repeated charge and discharge processes. To address these issues, a cross-linkable waterborne polyurethane (CWPU) based on a bio-oil, castor oil, was prepared and reacted with Tris(2,3-epoxypropyl) isocyanurate (TGIC) linkers, resulting in the formation of a mechanically robust 3D network structure. Si anodes fabricated with the CWPU-TGIC exhibited stable cycling performances and excellent discharge capacities. The results revealed that the CWPU-TGIC binder efficiently accommodates the large volume change for Si anode during charge and discharge cycles. Overall, the eco-friendly binder shows great promise in improving the electrochemical performances of Si anodes.
The spray characteristics of emulsified fuel of W/O type has been experimentally investigated. The mixture of light oil and water by using ultrasonic energy adding system is used as the emulsified fuel. The SMD of sprayed droplet of emulsified fuel is measured by using the particle size analyzer. Major parameters of the present experimental study are the volume fraction of water in emulsified fuel, $0\sim30%$ by 5%, injection pressure, $10kg_f/cm^2\sim18kg_f/cm^2$ by $2kg_f/cm^2$, and the measurement distance, $10\sim100mm$, between injection nozzle tip and analyzer beam. Compared with light oil, the SMD of emulsified fuel is larger gradually by increasing the volume fraction of water in emulsified fuel, heightening injection pressure and increasing the spray distance. Also, In considering the fact that the pattern of drop size distribution of emulsified fuel is alike that of light oil, the real time spray in coincidence with making emulsified fuel by adding ultrasonic energy can stabilize spray pattern without modificating the injection system used by now.
This study was undertaken to investigate the effects of n-6(corn oil) & n-3(fish oil) fatty acids on infarction size and the cerebral activities of antioxidant enzyme in rat focal brain ischemia model. Weaning Sprague-Dawley rats were fed with either corn oil supplemented diet(COD, 14% corn oil) or fish oil supplemented diet(FOD, 14% menhaden oil) for 6 weeks. The right middle cerebral artery was occluded for 2 hours with a silicon rubber coated nylon surgical thread. After 24 hours of recirculation, the rats were sacrificed and brain sections were photographed using CCD camera after staining with 2, 3, 5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride for 60 minutes in room temperature. The infarcted area was measured and the volume of infarction was calculated. Catalase(CAT), superoxide dismutase(SOD) activities, and fatty acid composition in the brain were also measured. The total and corrected infarction volumes were not significantly different between FOD and COD group. The docosagexaenoic acid(DHA) and DHA content/arachidonic acid(AA) ratio of the cerebral cortex, an index of defense against lipid oxidation, were significantly increased in FOD group compared to those of COD group(p<0.05). In the left cortex(non-infarction side) as well as the right cortex(infarction side) of FOD group, CAT and Cu/Zn SOD activities were higher than those of the COD group(p<0.05). However, CAT and Cu/Zn SOD activities were not significantly different between the left cortex(non-infarction side) and the right cortex(infarction side) of both FOD and COD group. GPx activities were also not significantly different between two groups. Our results demonstrate that the brain infarction size in FOD and COD were not significantly different. However, cerebral lipid composition and antioxidant enzyme activities in FOD and COD group were different. Fish oil, a source of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid(PUFA) and corn oil, that of n-6(PUFA) may have a protective effect against oxidative stress induced via different mechanisms.
In order to study and obtain the mathematical relation between the electrification degree of transformer oil flow and the electrostatic current, a small amount of data about the electrification degree of oil flow and the corresponding electrostatic current is studied by linear regression method and grey model method. The results show that the linear correlation between the electrification degree and the electrostatic current was not good, and the relation between the electrification degree of oil flow and electrostatic current (i) could be expressed as ${\rho}(0)=0.2049\;i^{(0)}+169.4419$ according to grey model GM (0, 2) when the electrification degree of oil flow is represented by the charge number generated from transformer oil per unit volume, namely the charge density (${\rho}$).

The major interest of this paper is how the spilled oil over the sea is dispersed into water column especially under the shear and turbulence such as breaking wave. Two hydraulic experiments were conducted to investigate the oil stick break-up characteristics into small and large droplets under the variation of velocity shear and breaking waves. From the experiments in the shear generator and the wave flume, small droplets which have diameters of tens to hundreds of micrometers were uniformly distributed throughout the whole control volume as time goes by. In addition, it can be seen that the weathered spilled oil has a different break-up mechanism from fresh spilled oil.
The use of inedible vegetable oils as substitute for diesel fuel in compression ignition engine is of significance because of the great need for edible oil as food, and the reduction of biodiesel production cost etc. Jatropha curcas oil which is a leading candidate for the commercialization of inedible vegetable oils is selected in this study for reviewing the application in CI engine as an alternative fuel. The important properties of jatropha oil (JO) and JO biodiesel are summarized from the various sources in the literature. It is found that five different types of alternative fuel from JO such as neat JO, JO blends with diesel or other fuel, neat JO biodiesel, JO biodiesel blends with diesel or other fuel and degummed JO were extensively examined in the diesel engine. Two different application types of alternative fuels from JO such as preheating and dual fuelling were also tested, It should be pointed out that most of these applications are limited to single cylinder conditions. The systematic study for the selection of effective application method is required. It is clear that the blends of JOME and diesel can replace diesel fuel up to 10% by volume for running the existing common rail direct injection systems without any durability problems. The systematic assessment of spray characteristics of different types of JO and its derivatives for use as diesel engine fuel is also required.
Extraction of oil from Moringa oleifera seed using Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was investigated. Effects of three factors namely: sample mass, particle size and extraction time on the response, Moringa oleifera a volume extracted, were determined. The Box-Behnken design of RSM was employed which resulted in 15 experimental runs. Extraction was carried out in a 250 ml Soxhlet extractor with Hexane and Ethanol as solvent. The Moringa oleifera seed powder was packed inside a muslin cloth placed in a thimble of the Soxhlet extractor. The extraction was carried out at 60℃ using thermostatic heating mantle. The solvent in the extracted oil was evaporated and the resulting oil further dried to constant weight in the oven. This study demonstrates that Moringa oleifera oil can be extracted from its seed using ethanol and acetone as extraction solvent. The optimum process variables for both solvent (ethanol and acetone) was determined at sample weight of 40 g, particle size of 325 ㎛ and extraction time of 8 hours. It can be deduced that using acetone as solvent produces a higher yield of oil at the same optimum variable conditions compared to when ethanol was used.
This research was conducted to analyze the change of surface tension, viscosity, streaming current and conductivity of transformer oil when it were injected with the interface active substances.(anionic:S-111, cationic:S-121, amphoteric:S-131) The changes properties of the surface tension and viscosity of the oil which were injected with the interface active substances were divided into the changes area and the minimum reduction area. The surface tension and viscosity of the oil which were injected with three different kinds of interface active substances showed remarkable change at the point where the concentration of the substance in anionic, in cationic and in amphoteric were 100[ppm], 10[ppm] and 1[ppm] respectively. The streaming current and conductivity of the same sample oil were also changed at the same densities of the surface tension and viscosity. For this factor, it was possibile for us to interpret the mechanism of the streaming current and conductivity. Therefore the interface active substances of the three kinds were injected into the oil within the limit of optimal volume, prevention effects of electrification were showed more excellence than unmixed insulating oil.

Oil-based nanofluids were prepared by dispersing spherical and fiber shaped $Al_2O_3$ and AlN nanoparticles in transformer oil. Two hydrophobic surface modification processes using oleic acid (OA) and polyoxyethylene alkyl acid ester (PAAE) were compared in this study. The dispersion stability, viscosity and breakdown voltage of the nanofluids were also characterized. $(Al_2O_3+AlN)$ mixed nanofluid was prepared to take an advantage of the excellent thermal conductivity of AlN and a good convective heat transfer property of fiber shaped $Al_2O_3$. For $(Al_2O_3+AlN)$ particles with 1 % volume fraction in oil, the enhancement of thermal conductivity and convective heat transfer coefficient was nearly 11 % and 30 %, respectively, compared to pure transformer oil. The nanofluid, containing $Al_2O_3+AlN$, successfully lowered the temperature of the heating element and oil itself during a natural convection test using a prototype transformer.
Wear debris in lubricating oil can be indicative of potential damage to mechanical parts in rotating and reciprocating machinery. Therefore, on-line or in-line monitoring of lubricating components in machinery is of great importance. This work presents a device based on inductive measurement of lubricating oil to detect magnetic wear particles in a tested volume. The circuit in the device consists of Maxwell Bridge and LVDT to measure inductance differences between pure and contaminated oil. The device detects the passage of ferrous particles by monitoring inductance change in a coil. The sensing principle is initially demonstrated at the microscale using a solenoid. The device is then tested using iron particles ranging from $50{\mu}m$ to $100{\mu}m$, which are often found in severely worn mechanical components. The test results show that the device is capable of detecting and distinguishing ferrous particles in lubricating oil. The design concept demonstrated here can be extended to an in-line monitoring device for real-time monitoring of ferrous debris particles. A simulation using the CST code is performed to better understand the inductive response in the presence of magnetic bodies in the oil. The CST simulation further verifies the effectiveness of inductance measurement for monitoring magnetic particles within a tube.
