  • A distance protection algorithm for detecting faults at power transmission lines is presented in this paper. The algorithm is based on the differential equation related to the voltage and the current at an equivalent circuit of a transmission line which is composed of the lumped resistance and inductance. The presented integration method has high performance at though the fault voltage and the current are heavily distorted with the DC offset and harmonics which occurred at transient states after faults.

  • This paper is related to the Region-based Spectral Correlation Estimation(RSCE) coding method that makes it possible to achieve the high-compression ratio by estimating color component images from luminance image. The proposed method is composed of three steps. First, Y/C bit-plane summation image is defined using normalized chrominance summation image and luminance image, and then the Y/C bit-plane summation image is segmented for extracting the shape information of the regions. Secondly, the scale factor and the offset factor minimizing the approximation square errors between luminance image and R, B images by the each region are calculated. Finally, the scale factor and the offset factor for the each region are encoded into bit stream. Referring to the results of computer simulation, the proposed method provides more than two or three times higher compression ratio than JPEG/Baseline or JPEG2000/EBCOT algorithm in terms of bpp needed for encoding two color component images with the same PSNR.

  • This paper describes a thermal image processing algorithm for uncooled type TEC-less IR detector which is applicable to fire control system of small arms. We implemented a real-time gain and offset compensation algorithm based on polynomial approximation from the raw dataset which is acquired by two reference temperature of blackbody from various FPA(Focal Plane Array) temperature. Through the experiment, we analyzed the output characteristics of detector's raw-data and compared IR image quality to traditional non-uniformity correction method. It shows that the proposed method works well in all FPA temperature range with low residual non-uniformity.

  • The 3-noded metric Timoshenko beam element with an offset of the internal node from the element centre is used here to demonstrate the best-fit paradigm using function space formulation under locking and mesh distortion. The best-fit paradigm follows from the projection theorem describing finite element analysis which shows that the stresses computed by the displacement finite element procedure are the best approximation of the true stresses at an element level as well as global level. In this paper, closed form best-fit solutions are arrived for the 3-noded Timoshenko beam element through function space formulation by combining field consistency requirements and distortion effects for the element modelled in metric Cartesian coordinates. It is demonstrated through projection theorems how lock-free best-fit solutions are arrived even under mesh distortion by using a consistent definition for the shear strain field. It is shown how the field consistency enforced finite element solution differ from the best-fit solution by an extraneous response resulting from an additional spurious force vector. However, it can be observed that when the extraneous forces vanish fortuitously, the field consistent solution coincides with the best-fit strain solution.

  • The valence band maximum (VBM) and conduction band minimum (CBM) of Al-doped GaInAsSb alloys substrated on GaSb are calculated by using an analytic approximation based on the tight binding method. The relative positions of the VBM and CBM between Al-GaInASSb and GaSb determine band alignement type, valence band offset (VBO) and conductin band offset (CBO) for the heterojunctions. In this study, aluminium doping is assumed to be substituted in the cation site and limited up to 20 % because it can easily oxidize and degrade materials. It is found that the Al-doped alloys exhibit type-II band alignments over the entire composition range and make the band gaps increase, whereas the VBO and CBO decrease. The decreasing rate of VBO is higher than that of CBO, which implies the Al components play a decisive role in controlling electrons at the interface. The Al-dopled GaInAsSb alloy has a direct band gap induced by $E({\Gamma})$ with a considerable distance from the E(L) and E(X), however, $E({\Gamma})$ approaches to E(L) and E(X) in the high Sb concentration (Sb > 0.7-0.8) which might affect the electron mobility and degrade the optical quality.

  • The aim of this study was to optimize S-tube shape of heat exchanger in term of reducing the size of tube bundle and improving the mechanical properties such as the thermal stress and resonance. The geometric parameters such as offset length, the straight distance between one end and other end of tube, the tube length in straight portion and fillet radius was assessed as a valid parameters. The structural analysis was performed to estimate the structural characteristics. Main effect analysis was performed to investigate the main effect for the various geometric parameters. The response surface methodology was employed to establish mathematical approximation models as a function of the geometric parameters of the S-tube. Also, The optimization was performed to optimize geometric parameters of S-tube using the regression equations and optimization tool. The optimized tube shape has been proposed. Those could be used in the heat exchanger design used in high temperature.

  • The global performance of the 5MW OC4 semisubmersible floating wind turbine in random waves was numerically simulated by using the turbine-floater-mooring fully coupled and time-domain dynamic analysis program FAST-CHARM3D. There have been many papers regarding floating offshore wind turbines but the effects of second-order wave-body interactions on their global performance have rarely been studied. The second-order wave forces are actually small compared to the first-order wave forces, but its effect cannot be ignored when the natural frequencies of a floating system are outside the wave-frequency range. In the case of semi-submersible platform, second-order difference-frequency wave-diffraction forces and moments become important since surge/sway and pitch/roll natural frequencies are lower than those of typical incident waves. The computational effort related to the full second-order diffraction calculation is typically very heavy, so in many cases, the simplified approach called Newman's approximation or first-order-wave-force-only are used. However, it needs to be justified against more complete solutions with full QTF (quadratic transfer function), which is a main subject of the present study. The numerically simulated results for the 5MW OC4 semisubmersible floating wind turbine by FAST-CHARM3D are also extensively compared with the DeepCWind model test results by Technip/NREL/UMaine. The predicted motions and mooring tensions for two white-noise input-wave spectra agree well against the measure values. In this paper, the numerical static-offset and free-decay tests are also conducted to verify the system stiffness, damping, and natural frequencies against the experimental results. They also agree well to verify that the dynamic system modeling is correct to the details. The performance of the simplified approaches instead of using the full QTF are also tested.

  • Marine seismic data have not only primary signals from subsurface but also ghost signals reflected from the sea surface. The ghost decreases temporal resolution of seismic data because it attenuates specific frequency components. For eliminating the ghost signals effectively, the exact ghost delaytimes and reflection coefficients are required. Because of undulation of the sea surface and vertical movements of airguns and streamers, the ghost delaytime varies spatially and randomly while acquiring seismic data. The reflection coefficient is a function of frequency, incidence angle of plane-wave and the sea state. In order to estimate the proper ghost delaytimes considering these characteristics, we compared the ghost delaytimes estimated with L-1 norm, L-2 norm and kurtosis of the deghosted trace and its autocorrelation on synthetic data. L-1 norm of autocorrelation showed a minimal error and the reflection coefficient was calculated using Kirchhoff approximation equation which can handle the effect of wave height. We applied the estimated ghost delaytimes and the calculated reflection coefficients to remove the source and receiver ghost effects. By removing ghost signals, we reconstructed the frequency components attenuated near the notch frequency and produced the migrated stack section with enhanced temporal resolution.

  • The Riemann's zeta function $\zeta(s)$ has been known as answer for a number of primes $\pi$(x) less than given number x. In prime number theorem, there are another approximation function $\frac{x}{lnx}$,Li(x), and R(x). The error about $\pi$(x) is R(x) < Li(x) < $\frac{x}{lnx}$. The logarithmic integral function is Li(x) = $\int_{2}^{x}\frac{1}{lnt}dt$ ~ $\frac{x}{lnx}\sum\limits_{k=0}^{\infty}\frac{k!}{(lnx)^k}=\frac{x}{lnx}(1+\frac{1!}{(lnx)^1}+\frac{2!}{(lnx)^2}+\cdots)$. This paper shows that the $\pi$(x) can be represent with finite Li(x), and presents generalized prime counting function $\sqrt{{\alpha}x}{\pm}{\beta}$. Firstly, the $\pi$(x) can be represent to $Li_3(x)=\frac{x}{lnx}(\sum\limits_{t=0}^{{\alpha}}\frac{k!}{(lnx)^k}{\pm}{\beta})$ and $Li_4(x)=\lfloor\frac{x}{lnx}(1+{\alpha}\frac{k!}{(lnx)^k}{\pm}{\beta})}k\geq2$ such that $0{\leq}t{\leq}2k$. Then, $Li_3$(x) is adjusted by $\pi(x){\simeq}Li_3(x)$ with ${\alpha}$ and error compensation value ${\beta}$. As a results, this paper get the $Li_3(x)=Li_4(x)=\pi(x)$ for $x=10^k$. Then, this paper suggests a generalized function $\pi(x)=\sqrt{{\alpha}x}{\pm}{\beta}$. The $\pi(x)=\sqrt{{\alpha}x}{\pm}{\beta}$ function superior than Riemann's zeta function in representation of prime counting.
