  • Fuel consumption in fisheries is a primary concern due to environmental effects and costs to fishermen. Much research has been carried out to reduce the fuel consumption related to fishing operations. The fuel consumption of fishing gear during fishing operation is generally related to hydrodynamic resistance on the gear. This research demonstrates a new approach using numerical methods to reduce fuel consumption. The results from the simulation were verified with results that mirrored the model experiments. By designing the fishing gear using drawing software, the whole and partial resistance force on the gear can be calculated as a result of simulations. The simulation results will suggest suitable materials or gear structure for reducing the hydrodynamic forces on the gear while maintaining the performance of the gear. Furthermore, the efficiency of low energy used anchovy dragnet as economic point of view will be dealt. This research will helpful to reduce the GHG emissions from fishing operations and lead to reduce fishing costs due to fuel savings.

전과정 평가 방법에 의한 한국 대형선망의 온실가스 배출량 정량적 분석 (A quantitative analysis of GHG emissions from the Korean large scale purse seine fishery using LCA method)

  • The global warming related to GHG (greenhouse gases) emissions from industries is a major issue globally. Furthermore, GHG emissions from the fishery industries also represent an important issue, as indicated by "The Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries" at the Cancun, Mexico, meeting in 1992 and by the Kyoto protocol in 2005. Korea pronounced itself to be a voluntary exclusion management country at the 16th IPCC at Cancun, Mexico, in 2010. However, few analyses of GHG emissions from Korean fisheries have been performed. Therefore, a quantitative analysis of GHG emissions from the major Korean fisheries is needed before guidelines for reducing GHG emissions from the fishing industry can be established. The aim of this study was to assess the present GHG emissions from the Korean Purse seine fishery using the LCA (life cycle assessment) method. The system boundary and allocation method were defined for the LCA analysis. The fuel consumption factor of the purse seine fishery was also calculated. The GHG emissions for the edible fish were evaluated by determining the weights of whole fish and gutted fish. Finally, the GHG emissions required to produce 1kg of whole fish and 1kg of edible fish were deduced. The results will help determine the GHG emissions from the fishery. They will also be helpful to stakeholders and the government in understanding the circumstances involved in GHG emissions from the fishing industry.

  • 전 세계적으로 온실가스 및 대기 오염물질 배출 저감을 위한 환경 규제가 강화되고 있고, 그에 따라 여러 가지 대책들이 마련되고 있다. 또한 환경오염 최소화와 더불어 효과적이고 합리적인 에너지 절감 방법에 대한 필요성이 점차 커지고 있는 실정이다. 선박 분야의 경우에는 친환경 선박 개발이 활발히 연구되고 있으며 배기가스 배출저감, 대체 연료 개발, 새로운 추진 방식의 선박 등이 이러한 연구 범주에 속한다. 본 논문에서는 하이브리드 전기추진선박에 대한 기본 개념을 제시하고, 선박 운전환경 분석에 따른 하이브리드 전기추진선박의 전력공급 시스템 배터리 단독 운전, 발전기 단독 운전 및 전 출력 운전 모드로 구성하고 각 운전 모드별 속도, 전류, 전압 및 출력 특성을 분석하였다.

  • A demand for bio-diesel oil increases as one of solution for exhaustion of fossil fuel and reduction of $CO_2$ emission, and research on bio-diesel is being carried out. Bio-diesel oil is mainly esterified from vegetable oil with methanol in order to use for fuel on diesel engine and has demerit that costs are increased as compared with directly using like non-esterified one. Bio-diesel oil within 3% mixed with gas oil is used at present, proportion of bio-diesel oil will be increase by 5% in future. We judged that wasted soybean oil non-esterified could be used on diesel engine with an electronic fuel injection according to previous researches with a mechanical fuel injection. A performance test using only gas oil, gas oil with esterified bio-diesel oil 5% and wasted soybean oil non-esterified 5% on diesel engine with the electronic fuel injection were carried out. It is noticed that gas oil with wasted soybean oil non-esterified 5% has more similar characteristics to gas oil than gas oil with esterified bio-diesel oil 5%.

  • 증류수 및 수도수 중에서 방열기로 사용되는 알루미늄합금재의 온도 변화, 탈기에 의한 개로전위, 부식전류밀도에 관하여 연구한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1. 청수 중에서 개로전위는 온도가 높아짐에 따라 비전위화 되고, 또한 탈기 후의 개로전위는 탈기 전의 개로전위보다 비전위화 된다. 2. 증류수 중에서의 부식전류밀도는 수도수 중에서의 부식전류밀도보다 더 억제된다. 3. 탈기 후의 부식전류밀도는 탈기 전의 부식전류밀도보다 크게 억제된다

LED와 메탈핼라이드 집어등을 겸용한 갈치채낚기 어선의 조업 성능 (Operating Performance of hair-tail angling vessel using the LED and metal halide fishing lamp combination)

  • One of representative Korean fisheries, jigging and angling has 5,700 vessels for squid and hairtail. Hairtail angling is the most typical fishery in Jeju and has an enormous impact on regional economy. However, the price hike in oil and labor costs triggered the necessity of developing a high efficient and energy saving fish luring lamp in recent times. For that reason, this study aimed to analyze the fishing performance of the aircooled LED lamp targeting hairtail angling fishery. The experiment was conducted from September through October in 2009-2011 for a 9.77 ton of fishing vessel setting up 100 lamps. The fishing performance was tested compared with 6 vessels using metal halide lamps in the same waters. As the LED lamp's performance goes up, different lamps were used in 2008 for 80W, 2009 for 120W and 2011 for 180W respectively. The catch and CPUE of the experimental vessel have gradually increased respectively taking the $4^{th}$ and $6^{th}$ place in 2009, the $4^{th}$ and $2^{nd}$ place in 2010, the $1^{st}$ and $1^{st}$ place in 2011 among the 7 vessels. In summary, the LED fishing lamp showed higher fishing performance than comparison groups. It saved 33% of oil consumption and cut down on operating expenses and greenhouse gases emission.

육상용 LED 램프의 선박 적응력에 관한 연구 (A study on the accommodation of common LED to shipboard)

  • Common LED (Light Emitting Diode) lamp has many advantages to compare with fluorescent lamp, long life and no pollution matter like the mercury. The LED lamp is a good light source especially for shipboard lighting because of its compact structure which prevents explosion and shock. Also, low maintenance cost is expected due to its longer life time in comparison with conventional lamps. The LED lamp, however, need some estimates that change of voltage and frequency, vibration, moisture on board to definite accommodation of the LED lamp to shipboard. The purpose of this study is to compare physical properties of a fluorescent lamp with one of the common LED lamp so as to analyze accommodation of common LED lamp on board. This study was carried out in two stages. First, temperature, humidity of illumination, voltage, electric current, frequency and electric power were measured by using experimental equipments. Second, a comparative analysis of consumption electric power, annual oil charge, annual CO2 emission and lamp life time, etc of the fluorescent lamp and common LED one was made. As a result of the study, the consumption electric power of fluorescent lamp was 50% higher than one of the common LED lamp. As a result of measuring life time, it was found that life time of common LED lamp was more about 3.5 fold than one of the fluorescent lamp. Considering these results, it's thought that common LED lamp is verified that energy saving is possible and using is possible as substitute for fluorescent lamp on board.

  • 풍력에너지는 20여년 전부터 새로운 대체 연료로서 주목받기 시작하여 현재는 글로벌 비즈니스 모델로 성장하고 있다. 전 세계적으로 풍력발전이 차지하는 비율은 전체 발전량의 30%를 차지하며, 이 비율은 지난 10여 년 간 꾸준히 증가해 왔다. 근래에 들어 일반 발전방식들의 탄소 배출량 증가 및 온실효과로 인한 환경문제 등으로 인해 풍력발전에 대한 국제적 수요는 점차 커져가고 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 풍력 발전용 부품에 대한 효율적인 운송경로를 제안하기 위해 풍력 발전용 부품의 운송 특성에 따라 그 경로를 접근성 우선 경로, 경제성 우선 경로, 편의성 우선 경로 등으로 분류하였다. 본 연구를 통해 풍력발전부품 제조업체들은 제품의 운송기간의 문제 뿐 아니라 운송경로의 효율성과 경제성까지 판단할 수 있게 되었다. 즉 지금까지 선박회사나 포워더를 통해 이루어지던 운송경로의 결정을 제조업체도 해당 운송경로의 효율성과 경제성을 분석하고 비교할 수 있게 되었다.

진해 당동만의 성층과 빈산소에 따른 퇴적물내 혐기층 발달이 메탄 거동에 미치는 영향 연구 (A Study on the Effect of the Development of Anaerobic Respiration Processes in the Sediment with the Water-column Stratification and Hypoxia and Its Influence on Methane at Dangdong Bay in Jinhae, Korea)

  • Hypoxia can affect water-atmosphere methane flux by controlling the production and consumption processes of methane in coastal areas. Seasonal methane concentration and fluxes were quantified to evaluate the effects of seasonal hypoxia in Dangdong Bay (Gyeongsangnamdo, Jinhae Bay, South Korea). Sediment-water methane flux increased more than 300 times during hypoxia (normoxia and hypoxia each 6, 1900 µmol m-2 d-1), and water-atmospheric methane flux and bottom methane concentration increased about 2, 10 times (normoxia and hypoxia each 190, 420 µmol m-2 d-1; normoxia and hypoxia each 22, 230 nM). Shoaling of anaerobic decomposition of organic matter in the sediments during the hypoxia (August) was confirmed by the change of the depth at which the maximum hydrogen sulfide concentration was detected. Shoaling shortens the distance between the water column and methanogenesis section to facilitate the inflow of organic matter, which can lead to an increase in methane production. In addition, since the transport distance of the generated methane to the water column is shortened, consumption of methane will be reduced. The combination of increased production and reduced consumption could increase sediment-aqueous methane flux and dissolved methane, which is thought to result in an increase in water-atmospheric methane flux. We could not observe the emission of methane accumulated during the hypoxia due to stratification, so it is possible that the estimated methane flux to the atmosphere was underestimated. In this study, the increase in methane flux in the coastal area due to hypoxia was confirmed, and the necessity of future methane production studies according to oxygen conditions in various coastal areas was demonstratedshown in the future.

독립형 LNG 화물창의 공학적 결함 평가 (Engineering Critical Assessement for an Independent Type-B LNG Cargo Tank)

  • The demand for Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) carriers and LNG-fueled ships has significantly increased in recent years due to the sulfur-oxide emission regulations by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The main goal of this paper is to introduce the process for the Engineering Critical Assessment (ECA) of IMO independent type-B cargo tanks made from 9% nickel alloy. A methodology proposed by the British Standard was used to conduct ECA for any structure with initial flaws. Based on this standard, a Matlab code was developed to perform ECA. Coarse mesh Finite Element Analysis (FEA) was performed on an independent type-B LNG cargo tank with a capacity of 15,000 m3. The location with the highest development of maximum principal stress was identified at the bottom of the cargo tank. Fine mesh FEA was performed to obtain the stress range required for ECA. The dynamic cargo tank loads used for FEA were determined using some ship rules presented by Det Norske Veritas. As a result of performing a 20-year long-term crack propagation analysis with a semi-elliptical surface crack, the fracture-to-yield ratio exceeded the Fracture Assessment Line (FAL) and some structural reinforcement was necessary. Performing a 15-day short-term crack propagation analysis, the fracture-to-yield ratio remained within the FAL, and no significant LNG leaks were expected. This paper is believed to provide a guide for performing ECA of LNG cargo tanks in the future by providing the basic theory and application sample necessary to perform ECA.
