  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of intensive rehabilitation programs on pain, range of motion (ROM), lumbar muscle strength, core muscle endurance, disability, and depression in patients with traumatic low back injuries and to compare the efficacy of this therapy with that of conventional rehabilitation therapy. Methods: The study was performed with a retrospective medical chart review of patients with traumatic low back injury referred to the rehabilitation center at the Daegu Hospital of the Korean Workers Compensation and Welfare Service. Forty-four patients were allocated to either the conventional rehabilitation group (CRG; n = 22) or the intensive rehabilitation group (IRG; n = 22). The CRG group patients, who received 30-min therapist-supervised physical therapy and modality therapy five times per week for four weeks, were compared with the IRG group patients, who received 60-min therapist-supervised physical therapy, 30-min therapist-patient 1:1 matching rehabilitation therapy, and modality therapy five times per week for four weeks. Outcome measures were a numerical rating scale, ROM, lumbar muscle strength, lumbar core muscle endurance, thickness of lumbar deep focal core muscle (transverse abdominis and lumbar multifidus), Oswestry disability index (ODI), and depression (Korean version patient health questionnaire-9). Results: There were statistically significant improvements after treatment in all outcome measures in both groups (p < 0.05). In the intergroup comparison, NRS scores on the activity and thickness of lumbar deep focal core muscles increased significantly more in the IRG than in the CRG (p < 0.05). There were no statistically significant intergroup differences in NRS scores on resting, ROM except left lateral bending, lumbar muscle strength, core muscle endurance, ODI, and depression. Conclusions: We could confirm the superior effectiveness of an intensive rehabilitation program compared to conventional rehabilitation therapy in patients with traumatic low back injuries.

  • Objective : This study implemented occupation-based practice as a group program for children with neurodevelopmental disabilities, and investigated the quality of occupational performance, performance and satisfaction, and efficacy levels of the program. Methods : ADOC-S(Aid for Decision making in Occupation Choice-School) and COPM(Canadian Occupational Performance Measure) were used to establish common meaningful occupational goals for 10 children with neurodevelopmental disabilities. After occupational analysis of the 'subway use', the Performance Quality Rating Scale(PQRS) were used to evaluate the quality of occupational performance. Occupation-based interventions were implemented by participants individually performing meaningful occupations in the most natural and real-life environments as possible. The trial consisted of 1 session of pre-intervention assessments, 8 sessions of intervention, where a single session of 100 minutes is provided once a week. Post-intervention evaluation was conducted over one session. Results : The quality of occupational performance by PQRS was 38.10 higher than before intervention. The occupation-based intervention as a group program used the maintain and modify(compensation, adaptation) approaches and acquisition model. In the early stages of intervention (1 to 4 sessions), the occupational performance was greatly improved. The performance level of COPM increased by 5.80 and the satisfaction level was increased by 7.00. In addition, high scores were found in program satisfaction through parental interview. Conclusion : The results of implementing occupation-based interventions to children with neurodevelopmental disabilities showed increase in quality of occupational performance, performance, and satisfaction along with positive effects of satisfaction levels for the program.

The total questionnaire result collected and analyzed are 232 responses. Results : In terms of ratio of therapist who are administrating sensory integration, occupational therapist takes biggest percentage. In most case, it is equipped enough to do treatment in terms of space and tools. Generally, therapists are performing evaluation and documentation earnestly, and willingly participating to continued education and clinical training coursework. However, it is found that some cases are implementing treatment without through evaluation and/or without professional training. • This study was conducted to find out the appropriateness of knowledge and education of occupational therapists' community rehabilitation jobs for community care. A questionnaire was developed to find out the job knowledge level of occupational therapists working in the community and the appropriateness of school education and maintenance education, and the validity and reliability were verified through a preliminary survey. Based on the verified questionnaire, a survey was conducted on occupational therapists working in the community. As a result, overall, the average score was low in the level of knowledge about the job of occupational therapists engaged in the community and the appropriateness of school education and maintenance education. Through this study, we were able to know the necessary knowledge in the practice of community occupational therapy, understand the level of knowledge retention of occupational therapists working in the community, and learn about the appropriateness of school education and maintenance education. Referring to the results of this study, if a systematic education program related to community occupational therapy jobs is developed in existing medical institution-centered education, the job knowledge level of occupational therapists in the community can be raised. Amid the rapidly changing times and the pandemic of infectious diseases, additional research is needed on job-related knowledge and education corresponding to various occupations in charge of rehabilitation in the community.

Fourth, no correlation between the application time and the perception of effectiveness of intervention model. Also didn't find correlation between applying time of intervention model and intervention area. When putting the various research result together, the model school-based occupational therapists using was similar to medical model. Therefore it is need a study to develop effective intervention model and apply it in school environment.
