  • This paper proposes a novel approach to building an occupancy grid map using sonar data. It is very important for a mobile robot to recognize and construct its surrounding environments for navigation. However, the grid map constructed by ultrasonic sensors cannot represent a realistic shape of given environments due to incorrect sonar measurements caused by specular reflection. To overcome this problem, we propose an advanced sonar sensor model which consists of distance and shape factors used to determine the reliability of sensor data. Through this sensor model, a robot can build a high-quality grid map. The proposed method was verified by various experiments and showed that the robot could build an accurate map with sonar data in various indoor environments.

  • In this paper, a real-time monocular vision based navigation system is developed for the disabled people, where online background learning and vector field histogram are used for identifying obstacles and recognizing avoidable paths. The proposed system is performed by three steps: obstacle classification, occupancy grid map generation and VFH-based path recommendation. Firstly, the obstacles are discriminated from images by subtracting with background model which is learned in real time. Thereafter, based on the classification results, an occupancy map sized at $32{\times}24$ is produced, each cell of which represents its own risk by 10 gray levels. Finally, the polar histogram is drawn from the occupancy map, then the sectors corresponding to the valley are chosen as safe paths. To assess the effectiveness of the proposed system, it was tested with a variety of obstacles at indoors and outdoors, then it showed the a'ccuracy of 88%. Moreover, it showed the superior performance when comparing with sensor based navigation systems, which proved the feasibility of the proposed system in using assistive devices of disabled people.

  • An autonomous vehicle requires a technology of generating maps by recognizing surrounding environment. The recognition of the vehicle's environment can be achieved by using distance information from a 2D laser scanner and color information from a camera. Such sensor information is used to generate 2D or 3D maps. A 2D map is used mostly for generating routs, because it contains information only about a section. In contrast, a 3D map involves height values also, and therefore can be used not only for generating routs but also for finding out vehicle accessible space. Nevertheless, an autonomous vehicle using 3D maps has difficulty in recognizing environment in real time. Accordingly, this paper proposes the technology for generating 2D maps that guarantee real-time recognition. The proposed technology uses only the color information obtained by removing height values from 3D maps generated based on the fusion of 2D laser scanner and camera data.

  • The development of Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks(WMSNs) is getting realized in accordance with the increased demands to provide multimedia data transmission service such as CCTV movie, image chapter information, audio information based on wireless sensor network. It is very important to provide the differentiated quality assurance of service. In this paper, we propose a sensor medium access control protocol based on DSMAC, which provides differentiated Quality of Service(QoS) for delay. A proposed protocol is able to reduce the delay without increasing the energy consumption by adaptively changing the duty cycle according to the buffer occupancy. Simulation results show that the new MAC protocol performs better in terms of latency than S-MAC and DSMAC.

  • In this paper discuss with research developing an LSTM model for classifying the behavior of occupants within a residence. The multi-sensor consists of an IAQ (Indoor Air Quality) sensor that measures indoor air quality, a UWB radar that tracks occupancy detection and location, and a Piezo sensor to measure occupants' biometric information, and collects occupant behavior data such as going out, staying, cooking, cleaning, exercise, and sleep by constructed an experimental environment similar to the actual residential environment. After the data with removed outliers and missing, the LSTM model is used to calculate accuracy, sensitivity, specificity of the occupant behavior classification model, T1 score.

  • This study suggested experimental study results of congestion detection method for intruding vehicle enforcement system. This congestion detection method is developed to determine optimal operation criteria of intruding vehicle enforcement system as detecting traffic congestion. In ITS sector, traffic management systems generally have used a sectional travel speed for congestion detection. However, image sensors have high error rate of congestion detection because of speed error. This study suggested comprehensive congestion detection criteria based on speed and occupancy rate using field studies. As field study results, the proposed intruding vehicle enforcement system using image sensor is capable of accurately detecting the traffic congestion using sectional speed of 20km/h and occupancy rate of 60% as congestion detection criteria.

  • In this paper we propose the method that detects moving objects in autonomous navigation vehicle using LRF sensor data. Object detection and tracking methods are widely used in research area like safe-driving, safe-navigation of the autonomous vehicle. The proposed method consists of three steps: data segmentation, mobility classification and object tracking. In order to make the raw LRF sensor data to be useful, Occupancy grid is generated and the raw data is segmented according to its appearance. For classifying whether the object is moving or static, trajectory patterns are analysed. As the last step, Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method is used for tracking the object. Experimental results indicate that the proposed method can accurately detect moving objects.

In this paper, we use the updated Baysian model for probabilistic grid map. For map construction, complete coverage navigation method in which mobile robot can navigate complete field through as short path as possible in unknown environment, is used. • In wireless sensor networks, the implementation of routing protocols is crucial owing to their limited computational capacities. Tree routing is a suitable method in wireless sensors owing to its minimal routing overhead. However, single-hop metric schemes, such as hop count, cause congestion at specific nodes, whereas multiple metric schemes cannot control dynamically changing network environments. To address these issues, we propose a scheme to implement enhanced tree routing with adaptive metrics based on hop count. This approach assigns different weights to metrics to select suitable parent nodes based on hop count. The parent-selection algorithm utilizes hop count, buffer occupancy, and received signal strength indicator (RSSI) as metrics. This study evaluates the performance through simulation scenarios to analyze whether improvements can be made to address problems encountered in traditional tree routing. The performance metrics include packet delivery speed, throughput, and end-to-end delay, which vary depending on the volume of network traffic.

  • Link attributes, such as speed, occupancy, and flow, are essential factors for transportation planning and operation. It is, therefore, one of the most important decision-making problems in intelligent transport system (ITS) to determine the optimal location of a sensor for collecting the information on link attributes. This paper aims to develop a model to determine the optimal location of a sensor to minimize the variability of traffic information on whole networks. To achieve this, a network sensor location model (NSLM) is developed to reflect discrete characteristics of data collection. The variability indices of traffic information are calculated based on the summation of diagonal elements of the variance-covariance matrix. To assess the applicability of the developed model, speed data collected from the dedicated short range communication (DSRC) systems were used in Daegu metropolitan area. The developed model in this study contributes to the enhancement of investment efficiency and the improvement of information accuracy in intelligent transport system (ITS).
