Impedance Characteristics of N2 Plasma and Matching Circuit Design (질소 플라즈마의 임피이던스 특성 및 정합회로 설계)

  • In the design of an RF discharge system, the electrical equivalence of the gas discharge must be known. With this knowledge, one can design a suitable matching network for a maximum power transfer from the RF generator into the discharge. For this purpose, an experiment has been conducted in which the electrical impedance (conductance and capacitance) was determined as a function of power. In parallel with this, a detailed theoretical analysis has been done and the results are in accord with those of our experiment. Design equations are also given for a simple matching network, and a design example is presented to demonstrate its application. During the actual operation of an RF discharge system, however, it has been often observed that the reflected power tends to vary in small values due to the changes in the impedance of the system. This problem can be relieved by adding an automatic impedance matching circuit to the system and this paper presents such an automatic impedance matching network.

  • Using lobed burner, flame visualization and measurements of NOx and CO concentration in the combustor exit were carried out to evaluate the relation between the lobed structure in a burner and pollutant emission characteristics. The flame stability is enhanced by the lobed burner compared to conventional circular one. The correlation on fuel discharge velocity for flame blowout should be included on a variable related to the wall effect of the burner, because the flame blowout is observed at the burner having large perimeter. The burner having lobed structure in fuel discharge side compared to conventional burner reduces by 5% NOx emission due to lower flame intensity through flame elongation. Meanwhile the burner having lobed structure in air discharge side and both fuel and air discharge side increase the NOx emission.

  • Carbon nitride films were grown on Si (100) substrate by a laser-electric discharge method with and without a magnetic field assistance. The magnetic field leads to vapor plume plasma expending upon the ambient arc discharge plasma area. Influence of the magnetic field has resulted in increase of a crystallite size in the films due to bombardment (heating) of Si substrates by energetic carbon and nitrogen species generated during cyclotron motion of electrons in the discharge zone. Many crystalline grains were observed in the morphology of the deposited films by scanning electron microscopy. In order to determine the structural crystalline parameters, X-ray diffraction (XRD) was used to analysis the grown films.

  • We measured the optogalvanic signal and discharge voltage-current(V-I) curve under the two different discharge conditions with different buffer gases, Ar, and Ne. When the Gd was used as a cathode material at low discharge current less than 10mA, a significant change was observed in the current-voltage curve. Time resolved optogalvanic signal measurement were measured by the diode laser of which wavelengths correspond to metastable transition line of these gases (Ar, Ne). From these measurements, we found that the characteristics of the V-I curve strongly depend on the Penning ionization process.

  • This paper describes the motion characteristics and micro-discharge of the free conducting particles between plain electrodes under alternating voltage. The particles move between both electrodes due to electrostatic force by applied AC voltage. Various types and sizes of free conducting particles were used to study the motion and micro-discharge characteristics. The micro-discharge and breakdown were observed during the particle motion.

  • The objective of this study is to find solid waste decomposition in landfill without leachate discharge. This study was observed variation of landfill gas production rate and leachate for stabilization assessment, and using four sets of lysimeter as experimental apparatus. Soild waste decomposition was accelerated in without leachate discharge system by sufficient moisture for methane bacteria. And gas production rate was between 54.2ℓ/kg VS∼335.9ℓ/kg VS in each lysimeter. Generation time of methane gas was showed different in each lysimeter, but it was much faster than literature research. The time of stabilization phase were began as follows : L-1 400 day, L-2 350 day, L-3 170 day and L-4 70 day respectively. Decreasing times of BOD/COD ratio and C/N ratio were necessary more than literature research because organic matter was not discharge such as wash out.

  • It is known that the address discharge delay time during an address period strongly depends on the wall charge leakage. It was observed that the wall charge leakage during an address period is related to both the address width and the ambient temperature. Accordingly, the effects of address electrode width on the address discharge and wall voltage variation during an address period were examined under variable temperatures.

  • The influences of TiB2 additions to the β-sialon on mechanical propeties and electrical discharge machinability were investigated. Samples were prepared by adding 15, 30 and 45 vol.% TiB2 particles as a second phase to a β-sialon matrix. The β-sialon-TiB2 composites were sintered by hot pressing in a nitrogen atmosphere at 1800℃ with pressure of 30 MPa. The fracture toughness of the composites was increased with TiB2 content except 45 vol.% TiB2 composite. The crack propagation and crack deflection were observed with a SEM for etched samples after vicker's indentation. The composites containing more than 30 vol.% TiB3 had resistivity lower than 10-3 Ω㎝. The electrical discharge machining (EDM) of composited was conducted with two kind of machines such as die-sinker and wire cutter. The machinability was evaluated with the cutting rate surface roughness after machining.

  • Application field of neutron beam is very broad including industry, medicine and science. But the research and development and use of neutron beam is restricted within in narrow limits in this country, because neutron beam facility is insufficient - a big research facility of nuclear reactor(HANARO) and some small industrial facilities which use radioisotope neutron source are available. This paper compare and investigate the results of experiment and numerical analysis of the discharge in the spherically convergent beam fusion device which were expected as a portable neutron source. The spherically convergent beam fusion device will offer stability in neutron production, possibility of movement for convenience, low construction cost and higher neutron flux than radioisotope neutron source. The star mode discharge which efficiently generate neutron, were observed at both results.

  • This paper describes AC test for long delivered drum length of cable using pre-breakdown partial discharge detection(PPD) method, which can be applied to observe the causes of electrical breakdown of EHV XLPE insulation. This method is to de-energize applied voltage to cable rapidly using pre-breakdown partial discharge, and is able to prevent complete breakdown. By this effect, defects such as voids, metal particles and protrusion in cable can be observed clearly. AC resonant test set was used for PPD method. Localization of partial discharge was performed by time difference detection of the traveling wave. Accuracy of localization was 1% to the length of test cable. Through several experiments with XLPE cable, successful results of PPD method were obtained.
