  • The electronic distance measurement instrument, first introduced in the 1950s has, since those early days, undergone continual refinement. Rapid advances in related technologies have provided lighter, smaller and more precise equipment. Understanding for the principle, the standardized observation technique and the precision of EDM instrument is mostly important to improve the quality and the reliability of by-product in the field of engineering and industrial surveying. Simple and accurate calibration is regularly and periodically necessary to maintenance the precision of EDM instrument. This paper describes the calculated example of zero error and scale error as a correction of EDM by applying the least square method to baseline observations. Here we deals also with the testing criteria for precision instrument testing according to different types of EDM instruments.

  • Currently, looking at the field of producing national coastlines, the lengths of coastlines are inaccurate due to the vague definition of dividing coastline boundaries and insufficient observation data. The level of accuracy and reliability of previous data are also in the very low. This paper used aerial photographs with certain intervals to monitor the change in coastal areas of Songjeong, Haeundae, Kwanganri, Songdo and Dadaepo. The local area subjected for this research was limited to areas near Busan. Launching quantitative/time series analyses on the change of coastal areas using aortal photographs, satellite image data and RTK-GPS surveys. And developing an automatic edge detection program to extract coastlines, suggesting the performance of the program and analyzing the efficiency of the program.

  • Objectives: The aim of this review was to compare the findings of 14 studies of tongue diagnosis in Korean stroke patients. Methods: The purpose, subjects, observation methods, statistical methods, classification of tongue diagnosis, significance, and limitations were analyzed and compared. Results: In Korean stroke patients, tongue diagnosis is significant in pattern identifications, prognosis evaluation, degree of neurological deficit, past history, blood tests, and pulse diagnosis. Interobserver reliability of tongue diagnosis is relatively high.

  • We present results from an extensive synthetic observation analysis of numerically-simulated radio galaxy (RG) jets. This analysis is based on the first three-dimensional simulations to treat cosmic ray acceleration and transport self-consistently within a magnetohydrodynamical calculation. We use standard observational techniques to calculate both minimum-energy and inverse-Compton field values for our simulated objects. The latter technique provides meaningful information about the field. Minimum-energy calculations retrieve reasonable field estimates in regions physically close to the minimum-energy partitioning, though the technique is highly susceptible to deviations from the underlying assumptions. We also study the reliability of published rotation measure analysis techniques. We find that gradient alignment statistics accurately reflect the physical situation, and can uncover otherwise hidden information about the source. Furthermore, correlations between rotation measure (RM) and position angle (PA) can be significant even when the RM is completely dominated by an external cluster medium.

  • In this paper, the result of a performance study on a home-built spinning disk type confocal microscope is presented. The confocal microscope was fabricated with a Nipkow disk made of the made of the microfilm. The throughput of the disk was 0.5%, allowing the observation of specimen with higher reflectivities only. A laser diode at 692.7nm was used as the light source. The topographic structures of a PC ROM and the CD ROM were observed with sufficient reliability, while the effect of the convolution of the beam size with the finite object size was found dominant. Also the shadowing effect by the etched pattern was observed.

  • The Classification of defected oil-seals using a vision system with the artificial neural network is presented. The artificial neural network fur classification consists of 27 input nodes, 10 hidden nodes, and one output node. The selection of the number of the input nodes is based on an observation that the difference among the defected, non-defected, and smeared oil-seals is greatly pronounced in the 26 step gray-scale level thresholding. The number of the hidden nodes is chosen as a result of a trade-off between accuracy and computing time. The back-propagation algorithm is used for teaching the network. The proposed network is capable of successfully classifying the defected from the smeared oil-seals which tend to be classified as the defected ones using the binary thresholding. It is envisaged that the proposed method improves the reliability and productivity of the automotive vision inspection system.

  • Recently the importance of website becomes confident in realizing the long distance education (teleeducation) as web. The purpose of this research is evaluating the websites of cyber university and analyzes web usability and web accessibility and analyzes to suggest the good quality content and several personalized service. Also we tried to improve website quality and contribute the reliability of the long distance education with all these. For these we applied the of professor Hyung Nam Moon's SM-ABCDE website evaluation model and developed the check list suitable for cyber university and evaluated websites in the five views of Attraction, Business, Content, Design, Engineering. Totally Kyunghee Cyber University, Busan Digital University, Hanyang Cyber University is selected best in sequence. • The brushless DC motor (BLDCM) has many advantages. As a result, it is widely used in electric vehicle (EV) drive systems. To improve the reliability of the motor control system, a position sensorless control strategy based on a sliding mode observer (SMO) is proposed. The global fast terminal sliding mode observer (GFTSMO) is proposed to enhance the control performance of the SMO control system. The advantages of the linear sliding mode and the nonsingular terminal sliding mode (NTSM) are combined in the control strategy. The convergence speed of the system state is enhanced. The motor commutation point is obtained with the observation of the back EMF, and the instantaneous torque value of the motor is calculated. Therefore, the position sensorless control of the BLDCM is realized. Experimental results show that the proposed control strategy can improve the convergence speed, dynamic characteristics and robustness of the system.

  • This study argues the nature of the microgenetic method in respect to child development research and explores its merits and limitations. The microgenetic method focuses on observations that span the entire period from the beginning of developmental change to the time it reaches a relatively stable state. This produces a high density of observations relative to the rate of change in the phenomenon. In this way, observed behavior may be used in intensive trial-by-trial analysis. The microgenetic method is superior to other methods in the possibilities for observing developmental changes as they occur, examining various aspects of change, detecting variability in behavior, and flexibility in application regardless of theoretical perspectives. Limitations of this method include reliability problems due to repeated observations, artificiality relative to the natural situation, inconsistency of short-and long-term change, and demands on children's motivation for participation in research.

  • For a man's approaching limitation in radiation environment, all work must be performed with remoted system to ensure worker's safety and reliability from radiation damage. The remoted system is mostly used in visual observation CCTV system. In high radiation environment of unclear power plant, RI(Radio-isotope) facility, medical radiation treatment facility must be used to radiation tolerant CCTV cameras for radiation damage. We have studied a radiation basic performance of camera components and CCTV cameras to develop radiation tolerant CCTV cameras. As a result, we are able to design a radiation tolerant camera of 108 rad total dose.
