  • 1)iscussed in this paper are the effects of phase modulation on the line spread functions (LSF) and MTFs of ;I binocular objective system. The binocular objective lens is made in Korea. It has rotationally symmetric aberrations. The LSFs and MTFs are measured experimentally. The phase modulation is carried out by applying phase retardation $\pi$ on the aperture. The area where the phase is not retarded presents a double annular type. The OTF curves of phase modulated aperture are compared with that of unmodulated aperture. The comparison shows that there is the aberration compensation effect in aberration loaded system. Therefore the performance of many optical system can be improved without any loss of light energy by properly modulating the phase on the aperture.

  • According to previous studies, the effect of intrinsic motivation related variables such as cognitive absorption (CA) on the use of information technology(IT) should be mediated by the conscious intention. However, CA, which is a thought of previous emotional experience, a deep involvement with a software, may be one of environmental cues stimulating the use of IT independently of conscious intention. The objective of this study is to show the direct effect of CA on the automatic use of IT. For this purpose, as well as the relation between CA and use, two relations, CA-intention and intention-use, were also suggested as hypotheses, which will show that conscious intention would not fully mediate the relation between CA and automatic use. Moreover, for seeing the effects of CA as time passes, the proximal effect, which is short term and transitory effect, and the distal effect, which is long term and lingering, were simultaneously included in hyptheses. Finally, the effect of past use was also suggested as a hypothesis which aimed to show that automatic use would be controlled mostly by habit rather than not only intention but also CA. For the empirical validation of the hypotheses, 174 users of 'Cyworld', one of most influential social network services, were longitudinally surveyed, which showed that the hypotheses were accepted.

  • The anchoring effect can be found when a decision shows cognitive prejudice towards the initial information given. Several studies have argued that such an effect is present even for judges in the courtroom. This paper seeks to find a relationship between judges' decisions on penalty sentences and the sentences recommended by prosecutors. In this study, 2,773 actual court cases are considered in the analysis, and quantile regression is used to show that the sentencing decisions judges make are anchored by the recommendations of prosecutors. However, this reliance on recommendations differs according to the seriousness of the crime committed. Specifically, at the lowest penalty levels, a one-month increase in the prosecutors' sentencing recommendation results in a 0.25-month increase in the judges' sentence, while at the highest sentence level, the judges' sentences increase by 0.78 months under an identical condition. The results of this research indicate the need to create more objective and clear sentencing guidelines in the future in an effort to mitigate the psychological pressure experienced by judges with regard to serious offences or heinous crimes.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze correlation effect size between Basic Psychological Needs (BPN) and factors affecting BPN. Methods: This research was reviewed and synthesized systematically by meta-analyse. Fifty-eight published studies between 2008 and 2016 were sampled and the effect sizes were acquired. Results: The major findings were as follows. In general, medium correlation effect sizes were found. Competency among sub-factors of BPN showed highest effects. Parental factor was more related to BPN than school and individual factors. Parenting behavior and family psychological backgrounds were the most crucial factors in the parental factors. School adjustment was the most critical factor in the school factors. In school grade, the elementary school was more related to BPN than junior high school and high school. Conclusion: Based on these results, we suggest a number of components for parent-education programs, and information for future research.

  • Turbulent mixed convection in heated vertical annulus is investigated using Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) technique. The objective of this study is to find out the effect of buoyancy on turbulent mixed convection in heated vertical annulus. Downward and upward flows with bulk Reynolds number 8500, based on hydraulic diameter and mean velocity, have been simulated to investigate turbulent mixed convection by gradually increasing the effect of buoyancy. With increased heat flux, heat transfer coefficient first decreases and then increases in the upward flow due to the effect of buoyancy, but it gradually increases in downward flow. The mean velocity and temperature profiles can not be explained by the wall log laws due to the effect of buoyancy, too. All simulation results are in good quantitative agreement with existing numerical results and in good qualitative agreement with existing experimental results.

  • The objective of this paper is to propose a new velocity measurement method for an electro-mechanical fin actuator. The model of the electro-mechanical fin actuator includes uncertainties such as unknown disturbances and parameter variations in flight condition. So, an electro-mechanical fin actuator system needs robust control algorithm which requires not only position information but also velocity information. Usually, analog tachometers have been used for velocity feedback in an electro-mechanical fin actuator. However, using these types of sensors have problems such as the cost, space, and malfunction. These problems lead to propose a new velocity measurement method using linear type Hall-effect sensor. In order to verify the proposed method, several experiments are performed using Model Following Sliding Mode Controller(MFSMC). It is shown that the MFSMC with a new velocity measurement method using linear type Hall-effect sensor can satisfy the requirements without using of velocity sensor.

  • When the liquid tanks only partially filled and under translational acceleration, large quantities of liquid move uncontrollably inside the tanks and generate the liquid sloshing effect. Liquid sloshing effect could be a severe problem in launch vehicle stability and control if the liquid modes of motion couple significantly with the launch vehicle's normal modes of motion. Several methods have been employed to reduce the effect of sloshing, such as introducing baffles inside the tanks or dividing a large tank into a number of smaller ones. These techniques, although helpful in some cases, do not succeed in canceling the sloshing effects. In this paper, An attitude controller is designed for a launch vehicle with liquid sloshing effect. Both PD controller and sloshing filter are designed for the objective. PD gains and design parameters are determined by optimal algorithm. The performance of the attitude controller is evaluated via computer simulations.

  • The preservation of the voice-producing mechanism is an important feature in the management of laryngeal cancer by radiotherapy. But, radiation therapy has certain side effects such as mucositis, tissue edema, necrosis and fibrosis which could effect on normal voice production. Several subjective studies that used questionnaires and auditory perceptual judgements of voice have been interpreted to mean that radiation results in a normal or near-normal voice. Objective evidence of the status of vocal function after radiation treatment, however, is still lacking. We analyzed the changes that occur in voice parameters in a group of patients undergoing radiation therapy, in order to determine the effect of radiation on voice quality. In this study acoustic, aerodynamic measures of vocal function were used to determine the characteristics of voice production. We found that voice parameters in early glottic cancer changed meaningfully comparing to normal larynx with or without radiation and radiation therapy has an little effect on normal larynx.
