  • One of the most important issues of object-oriented geographical database system is to develop an indexing technique which enables more efficient I/O processing within aggregation hierarchy or inheritance hierarchy. Up to present, several indexing schemes have been developed for this purpose. However, they have separately focused on aggregation hierarchy or inheritance hierarchy of object-oriented data model. A recent research is proposing a nested-inherited index which combines these two hierarchies simultaneously. However, this new index has some weak points. It has high storage costs related to its use of auxiliary index. Also, it cannot clearly represent the inheritance relationship among classes within its index structure. To solve these problems, this thesis proposes a pointer-chain index. Using pointer chain directory, this index composes a hierarchy-typed chain to show the hierarchical relationship among classes within inheritance hierarchy. By doing these, it could fetch the OID list of objects to be retrieved more easily than before. In addition, the pointer chain directory structure could accurately recognize target cases and subclasses and deal with "select-all" typed query without collection of schema semantic information. Also, it could avoid the redundant data storing, which usually happens in the process of using auxiliary index. This study evaluates the performance of pointer chain indexing technique by way of simulation method to compare nested-inherited index. According to this simulation, the pointer chain index is proved to be more efficient with regard to storage cost than nested-inherited index. Especially in terms of retrieval operation, it shows efficient performance to that of nested-inherited index.

  • In recent years, object-orientation is rising to notice as a new paradigm for developing software. This paper suggests the diagramming technique and a tool for developing C++ program effectively. This technique can represent the modularity and the interactions of classes definitely by emphasizing the characteristics of classes of C++. It can do the direct mapping from the logical idea to the physical screen image, so programmers can reuse the design resources in design phase as well as transforming the resources into chode in the implementation phase.

  • Object-oriented methodologies are widely used in the development of huge and complex systems since these methodologies produce the comprehensible and extensible model of systems. In order to apply an object-oriented methodology to a software development, developers should derive a method customized to a specific project from the methodology and, then, construct a development process from the method. Unfortunately, existing object-oriented methodologies lack a systematic facility for the construction of a method and a process. In this paper, we present a customizable object-oriented methodology to support the systematic derivation of a project specific method from the generic methodology. To derive a project specific method from the methodology, we transform the problem of a derivation to a planning problem and apply planning techniques. Our planning technique uses the description of an architecture that captures the structure and characteristics of a software under development as input and constructs an appropriate method with respect to the architecture. The architecture-centered construction facilitates the effective handling for the characteristics of the software since an architecture capture the decisions that must be maintained consistently during the development.

  • For the construction of thesaurus, a thesaurus management system is needed which can process dynamic variations fast and exactly such as input. correction and deletion of words, and definition of new relationship between words. In this paper, I developed a thesaurus management system based on the object-oriented technique and GUI(graphic user interface) screen, and to enhance the effectiveness of information retrieval. I put emphasis on the expansion of synonym, English and Korean words containing the same concept.

  • The objective of this research is to develop a cost model for integrated CAD system. A computerized system realizing this model then is used to aid designers. The first area is to propose a conceptual framework of a multilevel cost model. The methodology of constructing the model is discussed. Then suggestion of an object oriented programming technique for implementing the model is presented. Complicate estimation procedure can be systematically handled by this technique. Interval analysis to deal with the uncertainty of information and decision during design process is used. An experimentation algorithm for calculating the cost distribution is proposed to overcome the shortcoming of interval analysis. Major focus of this research is on net shape manufacturing processes including die casting, injection molding, and metal forming.

  • This paper suggests a data modeling scheme of human interface elements and their properties for consumer electronic products. The human interface elements were classified into three categories: individual, interaction and integration interface. The representative properties of each interface element were identified, and modeled by using the object-oriented technique. The results of this study are expected to be used for expressing the user interface of consumer electronic products. They are also expected to help understand the relationship between the usability and the user interface elements of a product.

  • Power system is becomming more and more complex and large. Exsiting procedual programming technique can't cope with software flexibility and maintance problems. So, Object-Oriented Programming is increasingly used to solve these problems. OOP in power system analysis field has been greatly developed. This paper applies OOP in power flow analysis, and presents new algorithm which uses only a Jacobian to solve mismatch equations, and introduces new method which is different from exsisting method to store elements.

  • To fulfill user expectations, the rapid evolution of software techniques and approaches has necessitated reliable and flawless software operations. Aging prediction in the software under operation is becoming a basic and unavoidable requirement for ensuring the systems' availability, reliability, and operations. In this paper, an improved evolutionary computing-driven extreme learning scheme (ECD-ELM) has been suggested for object-oriented software aging prediction. To perform aging prediction, we employed a variety of metrics, including program size, McCube complexity metrics, Halstead metrics, runtime failure event metrics, and some unique aging-related metrics (ARM). In our suggested paradigm, extracting OOP software metrics is done after pre-processing, which includes outlier detection and normalization. This technique improved our proposed system's ability to deal with instances with unbalanced biases and metrics. Further, different dimensional reduction and feature selection algorithms such as principal component analysis (PCA), linear discriminant analysis (LDA), and T-Test analysis have been applied. We have suggested a single hidden layer multi-feed forward neural network (SL-MFNN) based ELM, where an adaptive genetic algorithm (AGA) has been applied to estimate the weight and bias parameters for ELM learning. Unlike the traditional neural networks model, the implementation of GA-based ELM with LDA feature selection has outperformed other aging prediction approaches in terms of prediction accuracy, precision, recall, and F-measure. The results affirm that the implementation of outlier detection, normalization of imbalanced metrics, LDA-based feature selection, and GA-based ELM can be the reliable solution for object-oriented software aging prediction.
