  • Nowadays an information exchange on XML such as B2B electronic commerce is spreading. Therefore the systematic and stable management mechanism for storing the exchanged Information is needed. For this goal there are many research activities for connection between XML application and relational database. But because XML data have hierarchical structures and relational database can store only flat-structured data, we need to store XML data in object-oriented database that support hierarchical structure. Accordingly the modeling methodology for storing XML data in object-oriented database is needed. In order to build good quality application systems, modeling is an important first step. In 1997, the OMG adopted the UML as its standard modeling language. Since industry has warmly embraced UML, its popularity should become more important in the future. So a design methodology based on UML is need to develop efficiently XML applications. In this paper, we propose a unified design methodology for XML applications based on object- oriented database using UML. To this goal, first we introduce a XML modeling methodology to design W3C XML schema using UML and second we propose data modeling methodology for object-oriented database schema to store efficiently XML data in object-oriented databases.

  • An object-oriented database was developed as a framesork for integrating into ergonomic interface models data for workplace modelling and ergonomic evaluation functions as well as basic anthropometric data required to construct a man model. In order to develop an ergonomic man model representing operators that interact with his working evnironments, not only anthro- pometric data but also efficient handling of such data and accurate representation of the work- space are needed as a prerequistite to proper ergonomic evaluation. Most existing man models are not, however, capable of fully utilizing these data due to the lack of a generallized formalism of data handling, which results in system performance degradation or a potential difficulty when the system is upgraded. In this research, these three sets of data with distinct characteristics were incorporated into a comon integrated database required to manipulate an ergonomic interface model fully coupled with the man model itself. An object- oriented scheme was sued for the database design Specifically, UniSQL/X, an object-oriented database management system and the X-window system on SPARC workstation were used for implementation. The ergonomic man model generated from the object-oriented database is found to possess great flexibility and performance compared to existing ergonomic interface models or ergonomic CAD systems.

  • Nowadays many tasks are performed using the Web. Accordingly, many web-based application systems with various and complicated functions are being requested. In order to develop such web-based application systems efficiently, object-oriented analysis and design methodology is used, and Java EE(Java Platform, Enterprise Edition) technologies are used for its implementation. The security issues have become increasingly important. For such reasons, Java EE provides mechanism related to security but it does not provide interconnections with object-oriented analysis and design methodology for developing web application system. Consequently, since the security method by Java EE mechanism is implemented at the last step only, it is difficult to apply constant security during the whole process of system development from the requirement analysis to implementation. Therefore, this paper suggests an object-oriented analysis and design methodology emphasized in the security for secure web application systems from the requirement analysis to implementation. The object-oriented analysis and design methodology adopts UMLsec, the modeling language with an emphasis on security for the requirement analysis and system analysis & design with regard to security. And for its implementation, RBAC (Role Based Access Control) of servlet from Java EE technologies is used. Also, the object-oriented analysis and design methodology for the secure web application is applied to online banking system in order to prove its effectiveness.

  • A transition-based Objet-oriented programming system(TOPS) is a transition-based object-oriented system suitable for development of various concurrent systems.A TOPS consists of a collection of interacting structural active objects(SAOs),and their behaviors are determined by the transition statements provided in their class definitions.Furthermore,SAOs can be structurally and hierarchcally composed from their component SAOs like hardware commponents. These features allow SAOs to model components for circuit simulation more naturally than passive objects used in ordinary object-oriented programming. Also,we can easily add new kinds of components by using the inheritance mechanism.Executions of transition statements may be eventand/or time-driven, and hence digital, and mixed-mode simulation is possible.Prototype simulation programs with graphical user interfaces have been developed as TOPS progrms for digital, analog, and mixed-mode circuit simulation.

  • Object-oriented methodologies are widely used in the development of huge and complex systems since these methodologies produce the comprehensible and extensible model of systems. In order to apply an object-oriented methodology to a software development, developers should derive a method customized to a specific project from the methodology and, then, construct a development process from the method. Unfortunately, existing object-oriented methodologies lack a systematic facility for the construction of a method and a process. In this paper, we present a customizable object-oriented methodology to support the systematic derivation of a project specific method from the generic methodology. To derive a project specific method from the methodology, we transform the problem of a derivation to a planning problem and apply planning techniques. Our planning technique uses the description of an architecture that captures the structure and characteristics of a software under development as input and constructs an appropriate method with respect to the architecture. The architecture-centered construction facilitates the effective handling for the characteristics of the software since an architecture capture the decisions that must be maintained consistently during the development.

  • The primary goal of the database design is to organize a large amount of data effectively in users and systems view point. Effective design of a database is very important for processing applications efficiently. In this paper, we discuss database design for an urban geographic information system that effectively maintains the cadastral and planimetric information. We first collect and analyze the requirements for the target urban geographic information system and then perform database design for these requirements. Our database design is based on the object-oriented approach that has rich expressive power and good reusability in comparison with the traditional relational approach. Especially, we employ the OMT, one of the most widely-used object-oriented models. We expect that our result would be helpful in building large databases for urban geographic information systems practically.

  • Many object oriented database systems manage object buffers to provide fast access to objects. Traditional buffer replacement algorithms based on fixed length pages simply assume that the cost incurred by operating a buffer is propertional to the number of buffer faults. However, this assumption no longer holds in an objects buffer where objects are of variable length and the cost of replacing an object varies for each object. In this paper, we propose a cost based replacement algorithm for object buffers. The proposed algorithm replaces the have minimum costs per unit time and unit space. The cost model extends the previous page based one to include the replacement costs and the sizes of objects. The performance tests show that proposed algorithm is almost always superior to the LRU-2 algorithm and in some cases is more than twice as fast. The idea of cost based replacement can be applied to any buffer management architectures that adopt earlier algorithms. It is especially useful in object oriented database systems where there is significant variation in replacement costs.

  • Group collaborative systems are recently emerging to support a group of users engaged in common tasks such as group decision making, engineering design, group scheduling, or collaborative writing. This paper provides an change management framework for the group collaborative system to facilitate managing dependency relationship between shared objects and dependent user views, and coordinating change and propagation activities between the two in distributed computing environments. Specifically, the framework adopts an object-oriented database paradigm and presents several object constructs capturing dependency management and change notification mechanisms. First, it introduces change management mechanisms with transient shared objects and secondly, it extends them into presistent object computing environment by integrating transaction management mechanisms and change notification mechanisms. A prototype change management framework is developed on a commercial object-oriented database management system.

  • In the development process of application systems, the most important works are analysis and design. Most of the application systems are implemented on database system. So, database design is important. Also, IT System are confronted with more and more attacks by an increase interconnections between IT systems. Therefore security-related processes belong to a very important process. Security is a complex non-functional requirement that can interaction of many parts in the system. But Security is considered in the final stages of development. Therefore, Their increases the potential for the final product to contain vulnerabilities. Accordingly, Early in development related to security analysis and design process is very important. J2EE gives a solution based on RBAC((Role Based Access Control) for security and object-relational database also has RBAC for security. But there is not a object-oriented analysis and design methodology using RBAC of J2EE and object-relational database for security. In this paper, the unified object-oriented analysis and design methodology is developed for security-critical web application systems based on J2EE and object-relational database. We used UMLsec and RBAC of object-relational database and J2EE for this methodology.
