  • Despite the various smoking cessation programs that are available for college students, students have lower rates of quitting smoking than do other age groups. This study identifies the variables associated with continuous abstinence from smoking among college students. This study used the data from the National Tobacco Control Center and 781 college students who participated in the program conducted by the Daejeon Tobacco Control Center from June, 2015 to December, 2016. The results showed that the expiration CO level and the frequency of attending smoking cessation counseling were the significant variables related to the continuous abstinence rate at 4, 12, and 24 weeks. Students who had a low expiration CO level (?10 ppm) had a higher abstinence rate than did the students who had a high expiration CO level (≥10ppm), and the OR was 2.53 at 4-week, 2.33 at 12-week, and 2.13 at 24-week. The ORs for the 4-week, 12-week, and 24-week abstinence rates with one additional counseling session were 12.39, 13.13, and 12.21, respectively. This study suggests the need to increase the number of smoking cessation counseling sessions for effective smoking cessation intervention among college students.

  • The present study aims at investigating the effects of the Korean language ability, social support and acculturative stress of migrant laborers on hope and life satisfaction. The results of structural equation model showed that the social support and acculturative stress of migrant laborers influences life satisfaction through hope. The Korean ability of these laborers was intermediate level where they performed well in reading while they showed low performance in speaking and listening. The results of the study are as follows. First, hope mediates the effects of Korean ability on life satisfaction and does the effects of social support and acculturative stress on life satisfaction. Second the results that the better they hope the bigger life satisfaction gets implied that hope is the immediate cause of life satisfaction. Third, for their hope, we should provide not only language education but also opportunities for the perception that the role of family and neighbors is important. It is also necessary to facilitate active movements with the local community so that the migrant laborers take part in roles as members of society. Further we need to operate lifelong education programs for helping the migrant labores to adapt their lives in Korea.

  • The purpose of the present study is to determine the occurrence of dyslipidemia and the effects of health life practices among Korean males and females. The study subjects were 4,036 persons aged at least 19 years, as selected from the health questionnaire data out of the third year data(2012) Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. They were divided into a dyslipidemia group of 2,092 subjects (male 1,042, female 1,050) and a normal group of 1,944 subjects (male 740, female 1,204) by applying the dyslipidemia treatment guidelines of the Korean Society of Lipidology and Atherosclerosis. In the present study, the SPSS 18.0 program was used to conduct t-tests, a ${\chi}^2-test$, and a logistic regression analysis of descriptive statistics. Therefore, dyslipidemia-related healthy life practice programs should apply the characteristics of Korean males and females that show differences in serum lipid concentrations and to this end, continued studies, and national-level customized education applying the effects of healthy life practices is considered necessary.

Data were collected via web site, using a structured questionnaire and for the analysis of the data, a multiple linear regression analysis was carried out by the statistical program SPSS 20.0. According to the results, the perpetrators of violence turned out to be "passengers" in all types of workplace violence: physical violence, verbal violence, sexual harassment and disregard for personality. As for the relationship between workplace violence and the mental health of the workers, statistically significant differences were shown between all the above mentioned workplace violence types and sub-areas of mental health. Also, as for the impact of workplace violence on the mental health of the workers, significant differences were found in physical violence, sexual harassment and disregard for personality, with 8.3 percent of explanatory power. Based on these findings, the study suggests the establishment and the application of customer interaction guidelines to protect subway workers from workplace violence along with specific measures customized for each work environment to prevent violence.

  • To determine the biological effects of exercise on hippocampus in mice brain exposed to radiofrequency radiaton (RF), the expression of AMPKα, p-AMPKα, ERK1/2, p-ERK1/2, p38, and p-p38 protein in the mouse exposed to RF were investigated in the hippocampal tissues, Western blot method was used to compare the protein expression levels for each molecule. Significant increases in protein expression of individual and phosphorylated molecules were observed in the spontaneous exercise group, and the expression of these molecules was notably decreased in the RF exposure and spontaneous exercise group. This study shows that neuroplasticity can be increased by exercise in hippocampus that is responsible for memory, but memory and cognitive function may be affected by exposure to RF. We may expect clinically interesting results on dementia or Alzheimer disease if we proceed further investigation on the effect of RF.

  • This study was conducted to provide the basis for the establishment of various youth policies by analyzing and validating the mediated effects of ego resilience on the impact of adolescents' self-rated health on life satisfaction. The population consisted of a nationally representative sample of adolescents(n=1,979) in high school first grade student who completed the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey(KCYPS) in 2016. The study analyzed the data by descriptive analysis, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients and path modeling, using the SPSS and AMOS program. The result is following; Self-rated health has significant effects of ego-resilience(β=.26, p<.05). Self-rated health(β=.18, p<.05) and ego-resilience(β=.45, p<.05) have shown significant implications for life satisfaction. In addition, ego-resilience have been shown to be partial mediation effect between Self-rated health and life satisfaction. The results revealed that the adolescents who scored high on self-rated health were better the life satisfaction, and ego-resilience partially mediated the relationship between self-rated health and life satisfaction in adolescents. In order to increase the life satisfaction for adolescent, it was confirmed that a multi-dimensional approach is needed to consider the self-rated health as well as self-resilience.
