  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the preceptorship on nursing performance and job satisfaction of the preceptor. This study was as a one group pretest-posttest study. The subjects were 33 nurses who was selected as preceptors in 1998. This study was carried out from 16 April 1998 to 25 May 1998. Nursing performance was measured on a 6-D scale developed by Schwirian (1978) and job satisfaction was measured by a tool developed by Slavitt et al.(1978) and interpreted by Yoon (1990). The collected data were analyzed by paired t-test with SPSSWIN. The results were summarized as follows: 1. After the preceptorship, nursing performance of the preceptor increased significantly compared to before the preceptorship. All of the score of subscales was increased. 2. After the preceptorship, job satisfaction of the preceptor was increased slightly compared with before the preceptorship, but it was not statistically significant. The scores of the subscales increased in job status, interaction, autonomy, and organization. However, the score of the task requirement was decreased. Through the results of this study, increase in nursing performance, but only a slight increase in job satisfaction can be observed(not statistically significant). It seems that the content of preceptor program, the principle of adult learning, scientific problem solving, communication, feedback, and direct teaching experience affect the individual nursing performance of the preceptor. The preceptorship was useful with personnel development in terms of organization. To fully carry out the role of educating the preceptee, it is important to motivate the preceptor and to induce job satisfaction of the preceptor.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to develop and test a structural model of evidence-based practice (EBP) implementation among clinical nurses. The model was based on Melnyk and Fineout-Overholt's Advancing Research and Clinical Practice through Close Collaboration model and Rogers' Diffusion of Innovations theory. Methods: Participants were 410 nurses recruited from ten different tertiary hospitals in Korea. A structured self-report questionnaire was used to assess EBP knowledge/skills, EBP beliefs, EBP attitudes, organizational culture & readiness for EBP, dimensions of a learning organization and organizational innovativeness. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS/WINdows 20.0 and AMOS 20.0 program. Results: The modified research model provided a reasonable fit to the data. Clinical nurses' EBP knowledge/skills, EBP beliefs, and the organizational culture & readiness for EBP had statistically significant positive effects on the implementation of EBP. The impact of EBP attitudes was not significant. The dimensions of the learning organization and organizational innovativeness showed statistically significant negative effects on EBP implementation. These variables explained 32.8% of the variance of EBP implementation among clinical nurses. Conclusion: The findings suggest that not only individual nurses' knowledge/skills of and beliefs about EBP but organizational EBP culture should be strengthened to promote clinical nurses' EBP implementation.

When an average capacity of 20 at Postpartum Care Center is planned, proper suitable floor space of Postpartum Care Center is above $753.9m^2$ and $37.69m^2$ per postpartum woman is required. It is indicated that an average floor space per postpartum woman of the reviewed facilities is smaller than one of the Postpartum Care Center in a plan and plane distributed by function too lack in nursing space. Expansion of space for the Postpartum Care Center is generally required, also the enlargement of nursing space is necessary to be harmonized with the management of a medical facilities and those mutual cooperation.
