The purpose of this study was (1)to undertake a survey to identify the profile of inactive nurses, who account for 42.2% of the 130,000 RN(Registered Nurses) in Korea, (2)to identify factors related to the inactivation of these nurses, (3)to identify reasons behind the high turnover rate of nurses, and (4)to delineate measures for inactive nurses to participate in professional nursing activities so as to upgrade the quality of the health care delivery system in Korea. For these purposes, this study surveyed existing literature on the turnover of nurses and, used the nominal group technique of action research, to collect ideas from hospital/nurse administrators, inactive nurses, nurses on the job, graduate students in nursing, part-time nurses, patients, and their families to formulate strategies to mobilize inactive nurses. The findings are as follows : Frist, institutional supports should be provided to mobilize inactive nurses. To be more specific : (1) A data-base needs be created at the Korean Nurses Association to link inactive nurses with jobs available. (2) Retraining programs need be established to equip inactive nurses for new jobs. (3) Comprehensive information related to employment needs should be made available. Second, a conducive environment needs to be created to draw in inactive nurses to the job market. To be more specific : (1) A system of part-time work needs to be introduced in hospitals. (2) Nurse-specialists need to be promoted. (3) Potential jobs need to be created. (4) Working environment and terms and conditions for nurses need to be improved. (5) Competent nurses need to be secured in the health care delivery system. To achieve the goals presented above, this paper presented 55 specific strategies that may help mitigate the turnover rate of nurses and, in turn, help make the Korean Nurses Association effective in implementing its policies.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the factors influencing smoking cessation in female workers. Methods: This study was secondary analysis based on the data from the Community Health Survey, 2014 with the subjects of 2,007 female workers. The data were analyzed using $x^2$ test and multiple logistic regression. Results: 29.2% of female workers had the intention to quit smoking. The subjects with office jobs showed higher smoking cessation intention than non-office jobs. Smoking cessation intention was influenced by the amount of smoking per day, previous attempts to quit smoking, sleeping time, the presence of chronic disease, the presence of depressive symptoms, weight control behavior and subjective body images. Conclusion: These findings show that tailored interventions should be provided depending on the types of occupations in order to increase smoking cessation in female workers. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate how job overload, relationship with senior perceived by nurses and emotional exhaust related to turnover and explored the mediating role of emotional exhaust in job characteristics-turnover relationship. Method: Participants were 280 nurses from around the greater metropolitan area of Seoul, completed questionnaires. Correlation and Structural Equation Models were employed to investigate the various factors associated with this. Result: Job overload related positively to emotional exhaust and turnover and the quality of relationship with senior related negatively to emotional exhaust but positively to turnover. These findings suggest the important role played by job conditions in preventing nurses' emotional burnout and the intention to quit their jobs. Furthermore, emotional burnout mediated the effects of these job characteristics on nurses' turnover. Conclusion: It is suggested that the benefit of job conditions and emotional burnout should be taken into consideration when developing strategies to improve nurse retention and. social supporting programs for nurses more generally.
Purpose: The purposes of this study were to identify differences of duties, tasks, and task elements of care helpers between long term care (LTC) facilities and client's home (CH), and to provide data for the development of educational programs and policies. Methods: This study was a descriptive investigation; the subjects of the study were 418 care helpers. Duties, tasks, and task elements were measured using the framework proposed by Shin et al. (2012). Data were analyzed by t-test using PASW 18.0. Results: All of the jobs were statistically significant differences between LTC and CH. Dietary assistance and Daily work assistance were more frequently in CH, and the frequency of other tasks was higher in LTC than CH. Tasks with higher-reported difficulty by those who worked in LTC were as follows: personal hygiene, position change and movement, exercise and activity assistance, safety care, communication assistance, dietary assistance, environment management, daily work assistance, emergency prevention, early detection and speedy reporting, and dementia patient care. Conclusion: These findings suggest that training for care helpers of each facility type will be differentiated.
