Objectives: This descriptive survey study aimed to identify factors that affect job satisfaction among nurses working in integrated nursing care service wards and to explore measures to increase job satisfaction among these nurses. Methods: Data were collected between July 20 and August 3, 2018 from nurses working in integrated nursing care service wards in Busan and Changwon city, in Korea. Data were analyzed with SPSS/WIN 23.0 software(IBM corp., Armonk, NY, USA). Results: Factors affecting job satisfaction among nurses working in integrated nursing care service wards were identified as follows: professional self-concept (${\beta}=.32$, p=.003), which is a subdomain of nursing professionalism, and nursing foundations for quality care (${\beta}=.30$, p=.001), which is a subdomain of nursing work environment. The model had an explanatory power of 54.7%. Conclusions: Nursing professionalism should be strongly established among nurses, as nurses are key players in a health system that allows stable and expanded operations of integrated nursing care. Intervention measures that create a better work environment for nurses should also be implemented. Furthermore, it is necessary to develop systematic strategies and multifaceted efforts to increase nurses' job satisfaction in integrated nursing care service wards.
Purpose: This study was aimed to identify the difference in satisfaction and importance of nursing care between patients in comprehensive nursing care unit (CNCU) and general nursing care unit (GNCU). It also confirms the difference between practice environment of nursing work and nurse's intention to work. Methods: Nursing care satisfaction and importance levels were measured from 202 patients. Practice environment of nursing work and nurse's intention to work were measured from 54 nurses. Results: The satisfaction level was higher in the CNCU in comparison to the GNCU (p<.001). There was no significant difference between the importance and satisfaction level of nursing care for patients at the CNCU (p=.973), whereas in the GNCU, patients' satisfaction level was lower than the importance level (p<.001). The score for practice environment for nursing work was higher in the CNCU than in the GNCU (t=3.34, p=.002). The nurse's intention to work in the CNCU was higher than that of the GNCU, but there was no statistically significant difference. Conclusion: Through the survey, the paper suggests that comprehensive nursing care is a service type that satisfies the nursing demand (importance) that patients consider important. Results from nurses showed no significant differences.
Purpose: To study aimed to examine the impact of the Nursing and Care=giving Integrated Service on nursing work performance, nurse' job satisfaction, and patient safety. Methods: A total of 66 nurses were selected as participants, comprising 30 nurses working in Nursing and Care=giving Integrated Service hospital ward, and 33 nurses working in a general hospital ward with a similar patient and disease group and distributed moderately. For data analysis, t-tests, ANOVA, and $X^2$ tests were conducted. Results: Nursing work performance in the Nursing and Care=giving Integrated Service ward was higher than that in the general hospital ward, but this difference was not statistically significant. Conversely, job satisfaction was lower among nurses in the Nursing and Care=giving Integrated Service ward, although again the difference was not significant. However, the Nursing and Care=giving Integrated Service ward had a significantly lower rate of safety-related accidents in patients compared to the general hospital ward. Conclusion: In order to expand and improve patient safety and other aspects of the Nursing and Care=giving Integrated Service, there is a need to establish a mediation strategy for increasing nurses' work performance and job satisfaction.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify and compare the differences on perceived health status, Activities of Daily Livings (ADL), social support, and residential satisfaction between long-term care hospitals and nursing homes. Methods: Data was collected through questionnaires and interviews conducted from March 29 to April 22, 2011. The subjects were 66 old adults in 3 long-term care hospitals and 53 old adults in 6 nursing homes. Data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation analysis and t-tests. Results: ADL and subjective health status in nursing homes were worse than those in long-term hospitals, but it was not statistically significant (p>.05). Old adults in nursing homes received more emotional support from other residents and staff, and received more instrumental support from staff than those in long-term care hospitals (p<.001). The mean scores of resident satisfaction in long-term care hospitals and nursing homes were 3.53 ($SD={\pm}0.36$) and 3.97 ($SD={\pm}0.44$), respectively. Resident satisfaction in nursing homes significantly was higher than long-term care hospitals (p<.001). Conclusion: Health care personnels in long-term care hospitals should enhance resident satisfaction and social support and need to coordinate long-stay patients with nursing homes.
Purpose: This study examined differences in nursing care activity, work performance outcomes, and job satisfaction associated with upgrading nurse staffing of a nurse-to-patients ratio. Methods: Descriptive design was used in this study. In total, 148 medical and surgical nurses were recruited from one university hospital. Three instruments were used for data collection: Scale of Nursing Care Activity, Nurses' Work Performance Outcome Measurement Scale and Nurses' Job Satisfaction Scale. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and paired t-test. Results: There were significant differences in nursing care activity (t=-5.06, p<.001), in work performance outcomes (t=-5.46, p<.001) and in job satisfaction (t=4.61, p<.001) when the grading for the nursing staff was changed from three to two indicating increasing number of nurses. Conclusion: The findings from this study showed that there were more nursing care activities, better work performance outcomes, and higher job satisfaction when numbers of nurses were increased. The changes in the scale to evaluate nursing staff influence nursing activities, work performance and job satisfaction.
The purpose of this study was to provide qualified nursing care to examine the degree of satisfaction with nursing care of pediatric patients visiting emergency center. Data were collected from March, 8 to June, 5, 1999 from 304 subjects including 2 University hospitals located in Seoul. Using the 23 item questionnaire, which made out by Davis CHECSS tool through modification and supplement by researchers. The collected data were scored by use of means and standard deviations according to the degree of satisfaction with nursing care of pediatric patients visiting emergency center and each item as an independent variable was analysed by t-test and ANOVA test. The results are as follows. 1. The degree of satisfaction with the nursing care of pediatric patients visiting emergency center showed as an average of 3.69. 2. With the resept of general characteristics related to pediatric patients visiting emergency center, there were statiscally significant difference in duration of stay at emergency center(F=2.908, p=.014), type of disease(F=1.777, p=.046). The degree of satisfaction with the nursing care of pediatric patients of examiners showed relatively high, but emotional care and information supply are required.
Purpose: The main purpose of this study was to compare the level of satisfaction of patients with nursing care received, and of nurses with nursing care provided to their patients. Another purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between job satisfaction by the nurses and satisfaction with nursing care they provide. Method: A self-report questionnaire developed by Yoo & Hong (1999) was used to measure patient and nurse satisfaction. The participants were 147 patients and 133 nurses and data were collected from October 23 to October 30, 2002. Data analysis was done uslng SPSS WIN 11.0. Result: The average score for patient satisfaction was 2.47 (maximum score 5.0) and for nurses, 2.20. This difference was statistically significant. The patients gave high scores on care related personal hygiene, but they gave low scores for critical nursing areas such as following appropriate procedure for administering medications. No significant relationship was found between satisfaction with their nursing care by the nurses and satisfaction with the job. Conclusion: Even though the patient scores were significantly higher than nurses', the overall average score was very low and critical nursing actions received the lowest scores. It is necessary to identify areas in need of improvement and develop continuing education programs for nurses.
This study was to identify the utilization of home care service and home care nursing satisfaction for clients with cancer who had completed secondary and tertiary chemotherapy session. Raw data was collected by reviewing charts and questionnaire of 23 clients with cancer between September, 2002 and November 2002 at an university hospital located in Seoul. Korea. The result are as follows: 1. Characteristics in the use of home care: After applying for home care service, patients were visiting an average of 1.88 days later. The major purpose of using home care service was to help recovery after hospitalization or to maintain present health. The average period for home care service was 14.6 days, with 4 visits over this period, for 35.78 minutes per visit. 2. Content of home care service: A total of 47 items of service were provided - basic nursing care, education and counseling, and therapeutic nursing care. On every visit, an average of 19 items of home care service were provided, and the majority (7 items) were therapeutic nursing care. 3. Satisfaction with home care services: Satisfaction was very high, an average of 3.88 on a scale of 4 points. Both patients and families expressed high satisfaction with all sub-domains of nursing care: guidance by the home care nurses, knowledge, skill, attitude, interpersonal relationships, emotional support, and accessibility. In conclusion, home care served basic nursing care, teaching and counseling, and therapeutic nursing to clients with cancer going through secondary or tertiary chemotherapy. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify patient satisfaction about nursing care provided by Advanced Practice Nurses (APN) using the La Monica-Oberst Patient Satisfaction Scale (LOPSS). Methods: The investigation was conducted including 263 patients who experienced care provided by 41 APNs at a tertiary hospital in Korea. Patient satisfaction with nursing care was measured using 41-item LOPSS. We analyzed the data using descriptive statistics, independent t-test and one-way ANOVA. Results: Overall patient satisfaction with APN care was high. The LOPSS scores for APNs were 52.26 for good impression, 61.75 for interpersonal support, 81.32 for dissatisfaction and 195.93 for total score. "APNs talk down to me" was a reverse coding item which demonstrated the highest score for patient satisfaction. Among patients' characteristics, age and type of main caregiver were independent factors related to patients's satisfaction. Among APN's characteristics, work experience was significantly related to patients' satisfaction. Conclusion: This study identified patient satisfaction regarding nursing care provided by APNs. High patient satisfaction in APN services demonstrated APNs' contribution to quality improvement in health care services. It is recommended that various outcome research about APN service needs to be performed.
