This phenomenological study aims to explore Nursing Students' Experiences who have experienced team-based learning (TBL). The purpose of this study is to contribute to fostering professional nurses required in the clinical field by improving the learning outcomes by applying the TBL classes. The study participants were seven students of the nursing department who took TBL classes in adult nursing classes. The data were collected through participating observations and in-depth interviews, and analyzed using Colaizzi's phenomenological methods. As a result of the study, nine conceptual descriptions and five theme clusters were derived. The major theme clusters for the experiences of students were 'Dedication to best results', 'Self-led learning attitudes are formed', 'Becoming a communal knowledge creator', 'Active class time', and 'Meaningless peer evaluation'. Nine conceptual descriptions were 'Doing one's best to fulfill one's role', 'Preparing for the class with the pre-learning', 'Forming confidence through pre-learning', 'Solving problems through interaction with friends', 'Becoming a mentor to each other', 'Working together to resolve issues', 'Intimacy formed', 'A lively class', and 'Peer evaluation with familiarity'. This study contributes to the improvement of the learning outcomes of the nursing students by enabling learner-centered classes and self-led learning, thereby contributing to fostering the professional nursing manpower required in the clinical field.
The aim of this study was to examine and analyze the infection management status of Jeju-area general hospitals, and in order to convey the importance of infection management, and to determine role plans of medical technologists as infection management staff, the infection management status was examined through surveys targeting 7 general hospitals located in Jeju Special Self-Governing Province. The infection management of Jeju-area medical institutions showed excellence in that all institutions operated an infection management room, there was dedicated manpower, and hospital infection management guidelines were established and executed. However most institutions were operating their infection management room with only 1 nurse, reporting many difficulties in securing dedicated manpower, microbe-related culture deciphering, frequency of multiple-resistance bacteria, infection statistics, and details on microbe testing. Accordingly, it is believed that the medical technologist who can perform the practical tasks of infection management has sufficient qualification and experience in infection management as per the medical law enforcement regulations, and in operation of an infection management room. If medical technologists (infection control microbiological technologist) with expert knowledge on microbes and infection control nurses can execute the tasks as dedicated personnel, the operation of the infection management room will be more advanced. In addition, for proper infection management in the future, the introduction of a medical system specialized in infection management and full support for infection management of vulnerable small/medium hospitals in addition to general hospitals across the country is considered important.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine dental hygiene students' image of dental hygienist and factors affecting the image of dental hygienist in an effort to provide some information useful for dental hygiene education. It's basically meant to recreate the image of dental hygienist as a professional. Methods : The subjects in this study were 310 sophomores and seniors who ere selected by convenience sampling from three different three-year-course colleges located in Gyeonggi Province, Chungcheong Province and Gwangju. After a survey was conducted, the answer sheets from 277 respondents were analyzed except for 33 incomplete ones. The collected data were analyzed with a SPSSWIN 17.0 program, and statistical data on frequency and percentage were obtained to find out the general characteristics of the subjects, and another statistical data on mean and standard deviation for each item were acquired to check their image of dental hygienist. Besides, t-test, ANOVA and Kruscal-Wallis test, one of nonparametric test, were utilized to look for connections between their general characteristics and image of dental hygienist. Results : 1. They gave a mean of 3.53 to the image of dental hygienist, which showed that the dental hygiene students took a favorable view of dental hygienists in general. 2. Their response to four items showed that they looked at the image of dental hygienist in a positive manner. The four items respectively described dental hygienists as professionals, as ones who played a crucial role in the improvement of national oral health, as ones with professional knowledge and sophisticated knowhow, and as neat and decent people. And their response to the following five items indicated that they looked at the image of dental hygienists in a negative way. One was that dental hygienists were considered to be dental nurses, and another was that the occupation of dental hygienist was a demanding and stressful job. The third was that there was no single, fixed title to call dental hygienists, and the fourth was that dental hygiene wasn't recognized as an independent area. The fifth was that the social standing of dental hygienists was sort of high. 3. In regard to the impact of the general characteristics of the dental hygiene students on their image of dental hygienist, they had a more favorable image of dental hygienist when they perceived dental hygiene in a more positive manner(p<0.001). Conclusions : In order to boost the image of dental hygienist, the working conditions of dental hygienists should be improved, and educational programs should be prepared to provided them extended continuing educational opportunities. And the kind of educational environments that could nurture dental hygienists who are convinced and have a vision should be created.
Purpose: Parents with a premature infant are usually confronted with difficulties in caring for their babies and need education on appropriate care. The purpose of this paper was to describe the components of caring education for parents with a premature infant based on an integrative literature review and to present strategies for future education. Methods: Four electronic databases were searched to identify studies. Sixteen articles were selected through full text screening of related research published in domestic journals from January 1990 to October 2012. Results: Through in-depth discussion and investigation of the relevant literature, three components emerged; (a) nurses as educators and parents as learners, (b) education content including caring on admission or discharge, and effects of education, and (c) education environment including timing, place and materials. Conclusion: Future education on caring for premature infant should include the nurse as educator and have diverse content including parent's role, interaction with healthcare providers, and special care for premature infants with special problems. Moreover, highly technical teaching materials should be provided, along with continuous support of institution and government to individual caregivers. Results of this study provide comprehensive prospective and basic standards for education on premature infant care.
The periodic health examination have been shown the important role on early detection, early treatment and prevention of disease. Until now, there have been many studies that showed the effectiveness of the periodic health examination on the early detection and early treatment of disease to some extent. But there are few studies about primary prevention before health problem arise. In this case-control study, 29 newly detected hypertensive cases, 31 liver disease cases and 65 controls which are all available for 6-year data in the periodic health examination of a occupational field were compared to investigate the significant increase trend of health status between the groups. The results will be used for the occupational health nurses to provide appropriate primary prevention to the employees. The hypertensive and liver disease cases were divided observation-needed group and treatment-needed group. The data on systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, Body Mass Index and Broca Index in hypertensive cases and SGOT, SGPT, Body Mass Index and Broca Index in liver disease cases were analyzed by t-test and ANOVA. The specific findings are summarized as follows. 1. In the comparison between the hypertensive cases and controls, SBP and DBP of the observation-needed group and the treatment-needed group were significantly higher than the data of the controls for past 6 years. It was 2-3 years ago showing increase over 140/90mmHg of blood pressure in the hypertensive cases before they are categorized as hypertensive cases. In the observation-needed group and the treatment-needed group, the trend of the blood pressure for 6 years were significantly higher than the one of the controls. 2. In the comparison between the liver disease cases and controls, SGOT and SGPT of the observation-needed group and the treatment-needed group were significantly higher than the data of the controls for past 6 years. It was 2 years ago showing increase within upper normal limit of SGOT and 5 years ago of SGPT in the liver disease cases before they are categorized as liver disease cases. In the observation-needed group and the treatment-needed group, the trend of the liver enzyme for 6 years were significantly higher than the one of the controls. With these results, the author proposed that intervention for the primary prevention such as continuous follow-up, health education and weight control to the population who has over 140/90mmHg of blood pressure and upper normal limit of AST and ALT.
This study tried to formulate and operate an interdisciplinary case management team in Eun-Pyung Gu, Seoul. This was a part of an effort to promote efficiency of service delivery system for low-income elderly or the handicapped by linking. coordinating. and integrating various health and human services providers. In-depth qualitative analysis described the process of which the interdisciplinary case management team was formed, along with the process of the team operation. The interdisciplinary team consisted of home helpers, visiting nurses, and social workers from Health Center and Social Welfare Centers. Issues dealt with by the team include: 1) information exchange of clients' social, economic, and medical situations; 2) identification of types of service provision to clients; 3) clients' needs assessment and its prioritization; 4) assignment of a leading case manager for each case; 5) identification of problems and issues regarding integration of service delivery system The team approach to case management contributed to the systematic delivery of services to the elderly and the handicapped by avoiding service duplication and fragmentation. This study argued that public agency played a key role in constituting and operating the interdisciplinary case management team Suggestions for further studies were presented.
'What is nursing' this question could always be arised and such a question could bring forth the new possibility to definete the nursing concept more clearly. At the middle of 19th Centry, Mrs. Nightingale defined the concept of nursing as follows; 'Nursing is a kind of treatment act to aid the patient so that the health of patients may be recovered naturally, as keeping the most comfortable circumstances.' But after then, the role and function of nurses about purpose and method of nursing has continuously been studied, as the social circumstance has been changed. The fact that care provider and client have the same concept about nursing is very important at the first step of assessment. But at the present time, the care provider and client have not same concept yet, so the difference of unrsing concept between care provider and client is analyzed in this study. This study would be belived to be helpful for the advance of nursing in the future. In this study, 20 questionare from nursing objectives developed by Abdellah(basic care needs, sustenal care needs, remedial care needs and restorative care needs) are used for adult. The data of this study by the 6 point rating scale are analyzed by SAS as follows; 1. Respondent's view is that nursing is necessary in case of group(school or company) rather than private and in case of abnormal conditions rather than normal conditions. 2. Every questionares of nursing objectives are divided into 4 points of view such as basic care needs, sustenal care needs, remedial care needs and restorative care needs are examined. The evaluation by 6 point rating scale revealed that $5.08\pm0.65$ point in basic care needs $4.93\pm0.68$ point in sustenal care needs $4.91\pm0.80$ point in remedial care needs and $4.61\pm0.91$ point in restorative care needs. While basic care needs and substenal care needs that need more physical care show high points, remedial care needs and restorative care needs that need more psychological, social and spiritual care show low points. 3. It was checked whether there is any significant difference between above 4 point of views in nursing objectives and qeneral characteristics or not. As a result, there is significant difference between 4 point of view and ages, educational level, marriage, composition of children. And also there is significant difference between religion and basic care needs, remedial care needs and restorative care needs. But there is no significant difference between any point of view and sex, occupation, experience of admission and experience of family admission. As this study is based on the data gethered from a restricted area, the result can not represent the opinion of all the clients. Therefore the same kind of study should be carried out on many areas repeatedly and also it should be tried to extract objective concept. And also periodical study is needed to observe the changing process of nursing concept.
A review of this literature and discussions reveal a development of ideas concerning the elements of nursing models. The elements of a nursing model are the nurses view of the human being, nursing's goal, and nursing activities. It has long been recognized that human beings, at one time or another, require nursing care. Varieties of literature were reviewed in regard to the human being as recipient of nursing care through the theory development in nursing. Florence Nightingale initiated the modern era of nursing and described more clearly man as the recipient of nursing care. She looked at man as responding to the laws of nature whether the person was healthy or sick. Henderson added to Nightingale's concept of man , the recipient of nursing care by emphasizing that man is a whole, complete, and independent being. Her view is further specified by her enumeration of the activities the human being must perform. Johnson has developed a very comprehensive view of man as the recipient of nursing care. Man is a behavioral system which has a tendency to achieve and maintain stability in patterns of functioning. Like Nightingale, Johnson sees that similar patterns occur in both health and illness. Johnson postulates that the whole behavioral system of the human is composed of eight sub-systems: affiliative, achievement, aggressive, dependency, eliminative, ingestive, restorative, sexual. Roger's main contribution to the development of nursing models was her emphasis upon unitary man. She pointed out that man is a unified whole, possessing his own integrity and manifesting characteristics that“are more than and different from the sum of his parts.”Rogers focuses on the life processes of the human and points out that these processes have the following characteristics. Wholeness, openness, unidirectionality, pattern and organization, sentence, and thought. According to Roy, man is a biopsychosocial being in constant interaction with a changing environment. To cope with this changing environment, man has certain innate and acquired mechanisms. Man's ability to respond positively or to adapt, depends upon the degree of the change taking place and the state of the person coping with the change. When she analyzes man as an adaptive organism she further describes man as being composed of four adaptive modes: physiological needs, self-concept, role function, and interdependence. Based on the literary review through the theory development in nursing, general approach by a unified nursing model to a view of the recipient of nursing care may be stated as follows: Man is a unified whole composed of subsystems with a flexible and normal line of defense; his internal regulating mechanisms help him to cope with a changing environment; he functions by the principles of homeodynamics.
The work of visiting nursing personnel consists mostly of direct nursing and it is absolutely necessary that training of the nursing personnel for infection control be emphasized because most of patients are composed of elderly people with chronic diseases and malnutrition who are highly susceptible to infection. Accordingly. this study was designed to provide basic data for the development of an infection control program in public health centers as well as the promotion of perception and performance of infection control by analysing the perception of importance and performance in the infection control of visiting nursing personnel who carry out visiting nursing services. The subjects of this study consisted of a number of visiting nursing personnel working for 15 public health centers. 15 health-center branches. and 16 health clinics. The collection of data was grounded on a questionnaire method. The questionnaire breaks down to 8 questions about general characteristics and 108 questions in connection with the perception and performance of infection control. The results of this study are as follows: 1. 82 subjects (78.1%) responded that it is necessary to control infection. 79 subjects(75.3%) responded that education is necessary for infection control. 50 respondents (47.6%) answered in the affirmative in regard to the role of infection carriers. 2. The mean score for the perception of importance in infection control was 4.55 and that performance accounts for 4.03. this turns out to be very high. 3. In terms of the perception of importance per each field of infection control. medication. the management of contamination and sterilization, the control of environments and instruments. washing hands and individual hygiene as well as the prevention of cross-infection and the supervision of infection stand at 4.72. 4.64. 4.60. 4.58. 4.52 and 4.21 respectively. In terms of performance. the supervision of infection. the control of environments and instruments, individual hygiene and the prevention of cross infection. medication. washing hands, and the management of contamination and sterilization was 4.21. 4.12. 4.10. 4.03. 3.91 and 3.81 respectively. 4. In terms of the correlation between the perception of importance and the performance of infection control. the score stands high in all fields: this means the high perception of importance leads to high performance statistically (P< .05). 5. In terms of the perception of importance in general characteristics. there is no significant difference while the form of working places. working career and the career as visiting nursing personnel show a significant difference in terms of performance(P< .05). From the results. it is suggested that the visiting nursing personnel should be constantly educated with the aid of the development of infection control programs and that instructions and instruments for the management of infection should be worked out so as to enhance the performance of infection control on the part of nurses in applicable communities.
The paper investigates a mediating effect of job embeddedness in the influence of positive psychological capital on organizational citizenship behavior(OCB) for members of medical institutions. The members include medical doctors, nurses, medical technicians, health administrative staffs, and other medical service staffs of hospitals in Daejeon City, Chungcheongnam-do, Chungcheongbuk-do, and Sejong City. Using 453 questionnaires for hypothesis tests, the main results are as follows. Firstly, positive psychological capital exerts a significantly positive effect on OCB. Secondly, the fit and links of job embeddedness turn out to have a significant and positive effect on OCB, whereas the sacrifice does not have statistically significant effect on it. Thirdly, while the fit and links of job embeddedness appear to have mediating effects between positive psychological capital and OCB, the sacrifice of it does not exert a mediating effect. The findings thus suggest that we need a new approach to the role of job embeddedness in the positive impacts of positive psychological capital on OCB through the fit and links of job embeddedness. Furthermore, organizations need to focus on key elements in the application of job embeddedness.
