  • In this paper, it is proposed to improve the robustness of the Fast Recursive Least Squares(FRLS) algolithms with the exponential weighting, which is an important class of algolithms for adaptive filtering. It is well known that the FRLS algolithm is numerically unstable with exponential weighting factor ${\lambda}<1$. However, introducing some gains into this algolithms, numerical errors can be reduced. An accurately choice of the gains then leads to a numerically stable FRLS algolithm with a complexity of 8m multiplications and we shown it by computer simulations.

  • This paper proposes a new and simple input prediction method for robust servo system. A robust tracking control system for optical disk drives was proposed recently based on both Coprime Factorization (CF) and Zero Phase Error Tracking (ZPET) control. The CF control system can be designed simply and systematically. Moreover, this system has not only stability but also robustness to parameter uncertainties and disturbance rejection capability. Since optical disk tracking servo system can detect only tracking error, it was proposed that the reference input signal for ZPET could be estimated from tracking errors. In this paper, we propose a new control structure for the ZPET controller. It requires less memory than the previously proposed method for the reference signal generation. Numerical simulation results show that the proposed method is effective.

  • This paper provides a heuristic theory for modeling and analysis of vector quantization effects in 2-dimensional subband filter banks. This model is used as the basis for optimal filter bank design. The scalar non-linear gain-plus-additive noise quantization model can be used to represent each vector quantizer in 2-band subband codec. The validity and accuracy and of this analytic model is confirmed by comparing the calculated model quantization errors with actual simulation of the optimum LBG vector quantizer. Numerical design examples for the optimum separable paraunitary filter banks are suggested in this paper.

  • Recently kriging model has been widely used in the DACE (Design and Analysis of Computer Experiment) because of prominent predictability of nonlinear response. Since DACE has no random or measurement errors contrast to physical experiment, space filling experimental design that distributes uniformly design points over whole design space should be employed as a sampling method. In this paper, we examine the maximum entropy experimental design that reveals the space filling strategy in which defines the maximum entropy based on Gaussian or exponential. The influence of these two correlation functions on space filling design and their model parameters are investigated. Based on the exploration of numerous numerical tests, enhanced maximum entropy design based on exponential correlation function is suggested.

  • The present work is concerned with the development of a procedure for adaptive computations of shear localization problems. The maximum jump of equivalent strain rates across element boundaries is proposed as a simple error indicator based on interpolation errors, and successfully implemented in the adaptive mesh refinement scheme. The time step is controlled by using a parameter related to the Lipschitz constant, and state variables in target elements for refinements are transferred by $L_2$-projection. Consistent tangent moduli with a proper updating scheme for state variables are used to improve the numerical stability in the formation of shear bands. It is observed that the present adaptive mesh refinement procedure shows an excellent performance in the simulation of shear localization problems.

  • This paper proposes the modeling of the dynamics of two cooperating robot manipulators performing the assembly job such as peg-in-hole while coordinating the payload along the desired path. The mass and moment of inertia of the manipulators and the payload are assumed to be unknown. To control the uncertain system, a robust control algorithm based on the computed torque control is proposed. Usually, the robust controller requires high input torques such that it may face input saturation in actual application. In this reason, the robust control algorithm includes fuzzy logic such that the magnitude of the input torque of the manipulators is controlled not to go over the hardware saturation while keeping path tracking errors bounded. A numerical example using dual three degree-of-freedom manipulators is shown.

  • In this paper, modified discrete time preview control algorithms for active and semi-active suspension systems are derived based on a simple mathematical 4 DOF half-car model. The discrete time preview control laws for ride comfort are employed in the simulation. The algorithms for MIMO system contain control strategies reacting against body forces that occur at cornering, accelerating, braking, or under payload, in addition to road disturbances. Matlab simulation results for the discrete time case are compared with those for the continuous time case and the appropriateness of the discrete time algorithms are verified by the of simulation results. Passive, active, and semi-active system responses to a sinusoidal input and an asphalt road input are analysed and evaluated. The simulation results show the extent of performance degradation due to numerical errors related to the length of the sampling time and time delay.

  • This paper presents a region offsetting algorithm for tool-path generation. The proposed region offsetting algorithm is developed by expanding the 'PWID offset algorithm [Choi and Park, 1999]'designed to offset a simple polygon. The PWID offset algorithm has three important steps; 1) remove 'local invalid ranges'by invoking a PWID test, 2) construct a raw offset owe and 3) remove 'global invalid ranges'by finding self-intersections of the raw offset cure. To develop a region offsetting algorithm, we modified the PWID offset algorithm by expanding the concept of the 'global invalid range'in the third step. The time complexity of the proposed algorithm is approximately Ο(n), where n is the number of points, and it is free of numerical errors for practical purposes. The proposed algorithm has been implemented and tested with various real regions obtained by intersecting a sculptured surface with a plane.

  • This paper studies the errors that associated with particle velocity and intensity in a space. We theoretically derived their bias error and random error. The analysis shows that the more samples do not always guarantee the better results. The random error of the velocity and intensity are increased when we have many samples. The characteristics of the amplification of the random error are analyzed in terms of the sample spacing. The amplification was found to be related to the spatial differential of random noise. The numerical simulations are performed to verify theoretical results.

  • The reflection coefficient of a material at oblique incidence is measured in a free field. The sound pressure distributions are measured at discrete points on two measurement lines and then decomposed into plane wave components by using spatial Fourier transform. The inciedent and reflected plane wave components are obtained from a set of "decomposition equations" of which uses the plane wave propagation theory. Numerical simulations and experiments have been performed to see the effect of finite size of measurement area. To reduce this effect, a window fuction has been performed to see the effects of finite size of mesurement area. To reduce this effect, a window function has been proposed and its effect on the measurement of sound absorbing material property has been studied as well. The reflection coefficient obtained by this method is compared with those obtained from other methods; 2-microphone method in a duct and an expirical equation of which determines the characteristic impedance .rho.c and propagation constant k of a material from flow resistance information.formation.
