Numerical Analysis on Iron Loss and PM Loss of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Considering the Carrier Harmonics

  • In this paper, the influence of inverter switching harmonics on iron loss and PM loss of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) is numerically investigated by Finite Element Method (FEM). In particular, nonlinear FEM is applied for a multi-layered PM Synchronous Motors (PMSMs), Interior buried PMSM (IPMSM) and PM assisted Synchronous Reluctance Motor (PMa-SynRM), which are adoptively designed and compared for Electric Vehicle (EV) propulsion. In particular, iron loss and PM eddy-current loss under the real current waveform including the carrier harmonics from inverter switching are numerically analyzed with nonlinear FEM by considering the skewed stator structure employed for minimizing spatial harmonics.

  • For seismic imaging and inversion, the inverted image depends on how we define the objective function. ${\ell}^1$-norm is more robust than ${\ell}^2$-norm. However, it is difficult to apply the Newton-type algorithm directly because the partial derivative for ${\ell^1$-norm has a singularity. In our paper, to overcome the difficulties of singularities, Huber function given by hybrid ${\ell}^1/{\ell}^2$-norm is used. We tested the robustness of our new object function with several noisy data set. Numerical results show that the new objective function is more robust to band limited spiky noise than the conventional object function.

  • The fractional slot windings are widely used in rotating machine in order to increase the flexibility of design and improve the voltage waveform. However, the MMF wave of fractional-slot windings are found to contain unique harmonic component, which are designated as even order space flux harmonics, fractional number flux harmonics, or both. They may cause stray loss and stator core vibration. This paper proposes new winding methods "novel interspersed windings" and "expanded group windings" to reduce these harmonics. The advantages of two proposed windings are verified by using numerical analysis and measurement test of winding model.

  • The newly developed speed sensorless control scheme is proposed to estimate both motor speed and rotor resistance simultaneously using variable rotor flux. The rotor flux is given as sinusoidal waveform with an amplitude and a frequency without affecting precise torque control. Especially the proposed method makes the simultaneous estimation of rotor resistance and speed with high precision even though at the low speed area including a few rpm. Moreover, on-line identification of rotor resistance can be performed simply without calculating troublesome trigonometric functions and complicated integral computation. Therefore, the proposed system can be accomplished by using very cheap microprocessors for several applications. The results of the numerical simulations and experiments demonstrate that this method is effective to estimate the speed and on-line identification of rotor resistance for sensorless induction motors.

  • In this paper the electromagnetic torque developed in IPMSM(Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) is analyzed. If flux distributions in the motor are not sinusoidal, a sinusoidal current produces important torque ripple. Torque ripple causes vibration and noise of motors. The optimized current waveforms for ripple free is able to be obtained by analysis of Back-EMF and torque equation. The method to find the optimal current is based on numerical predetermination. In this paper proposes current waveform which can eliminate the torque ripple, and the validity is verified through the simulation.

  • In this paper, the voltage control is applied to the adjustable speed operation of BLDC motor with the trapezoidal back emf waveform. Torque chrateristics of BLDC are investigated through Fourier analysis when the pulse width modulation inverter is applied. Also, this paper consisders the theoretical problem of eliminating some harmonic components in inverter output waveforms, which, in turn, allows to remove some ripple components. Numerical technique is applied to solve the transcendental equations of the problem by the computer.

  • This paper presents an analytic 3rd order calculation methods, without simulations, for delay time of RC-class circuits which are conveniently used to on-chip interconnects. While the proposed method requires comparable evaluation time than the previous 2nd order calculation method, it ensures more accurate results than those of 2nd order method. The proposed analytic delay calculation method guarantees allowable error tolerances when compared to the results obtained from the AWE (Asymptotic Waveform Evaluation) technique and has better performance in evaluation time as well as numerical stability. The first algorithm of the proposed method requires 8 moments for the 3rd order approximation and yields more accurate delay time approximation. The second algorithm requires 6 moments for the 3rd order approximation and results in shorter evaluation time, the accuracy of which may be less than the first algorithm.

  • Since blast-induced vibration may cause serious problem to the rock mass as well as the nearby structures, the prediction of blast-induced nitration and the stability evaluation must be performed before blasting activities. Dynamic analysis has been increased recently in order to analyze the effect of the blast-Induced vibration. Most of the previous studies, however, were based on the continuum analysis unable to consider rock joints which significantly affect the wave propagation and attenuation characteristics. They also adopted pressure corves estimated tv theoretical or empirical equations as input detonation load, thus there were very difficult to reflect the characteristics of propagating media. In this study, therefore, we suggested a dynamic distinct element analysis technique which uses velocity waveform obtained from a test blast as an input detonation load. A distinct element program, UDEC was used to consider the effect of rock joints. In order to verify the validity of proposed method, the test blast was simulated. The predicted results from the proposed method showed a good agreement with the measured vibration data from the test blast. Through the dynamic numerical modelling on the planned road tunnel and slope, we evaluated the effect of blast-induced nitration and the stability of rock slope.

  • Distributed acoustic sensing (DAS), an increasingly growing acquisition technique in the oil and gas exploration and seismology fields, has been used to record seismic signals using optical cables as receivers. With the development of imaging methods for DAS data, full waveform inversion (FWI) is been applied to DAS data to obtain high-resolution property models such as P- and S-velocity. However, because the DAS systems measure strain from the phase distortion between two points along optical cables, DAS data must be transformed from strain to particle velocity for FWI algorithms. In this study, a plane-wave FWI algorithm based on the relationship between strain and horizontal particle velocity in the plane-wave assumption is proposed to apply FWI to DAS data. Under the plane-wave assumption, strain equals the horizontal particle velocity, which is scaled by the velocity at the receiver position. This relationship was confirmed using a numerical experiment. Furthermore, 4-layer and modified Marmousi-2 velocity models were used to verify the applicability of the proposed FWI algorithm in various survey environments. The proposed FWI was implemented in land and marine survey environments and provided high-resolution P- and S-velocity models.

  • Hydrodynamic characteristics of wave propagation through density stratification have not been identified in details. So this study conducted a numerical simulation using LES-WASS-3D ver. 2.0 for analysis of density current due to water temperature and salinity in order to analyze hydraulic characteristics under wave action in a two-layer density stratified fluid. For the validity and effectiveness of numerical wave tank used, it was compared and analyzed with the experiment to show waveform based on $3^{rd}$-order Stoke wave theory at the internal of a density stratification. Using the results obtained from numerical simulation, the surface and internal wave heights are reduced as the wave propagates in a two-layer density stratified water. And the surface or internal wave attenuation became more serious as the vorticities were increased by the velocity difference of wave propagation due to the upper-lower density difference around the interface of a density stratification. As well, the surface and internal wave attenuations became more serious with higher density difference and depth ratio between upper and lower layers when the wave propagates through a density stratification.
