  • The kinematic analysis of Stewart platform manipulator(SPM) is carried out in order to reduce the calculation time for its forward kinematic solution when the iterative numerical method is employed. The kinematic equations for three substructures of the 6-3 SPM are newly derived by introducing Denavit-Hartenberg link parameters and using kinematic constraints associated with the SPM and substructure kinematics. It is shown that the forward kinematics can be easily solved from three nonlinear equations with three unknown variables only, leading to a great reduction in calculation time.

  • The characteristics of dynamic systems subjected to multiple linear constraints are determined by considering the constrained effects. Although there have been many researches to investigate the dynamic characteristics of constrained systems, most of them depend on numerical analysis like Lagrange multipliers method. In 1992, Udwadia and Kalaba presented an explicit form to describe the motion for constrained discrete systems. Starting from the method, this study determines the dynamic characteristics of the systems to have positive semidefinite mass matrix and the continuous systems. And this study presents a closed form to calculate frequency response matrix for constrained systems subjected to harmonic forces. The proposed methods that do not depend on any numerical schemes take more generalized forms than other research results.

  • This paper discussed about Application Technique of Numerical Methods for large structure. The dynamic behaviours of a vehicle were investigated through finite element modelling. After dividing a vehicle body into three substructures, Basic Mass System was composed of 60 flexual modes which was obtained from the dynamic characteristics of each substructure using Modal Synthesis Method. Engine, transmission and rear axle, etc. were added to Basic Mass Model, consequently Full Mass System was constructed by 72 degree of freedoms. Full Mass System was analyzed over the frequency range 0.5-50.0 Hz under the loading conditions which were Stationary Gaussian Random Process. Results and discussions provided the guidelines to eliminate resonances among the parts and to improve the Ride Quality. The Absorbed Power was used as a standard to determine the Ride Quality. The RMS value of driver's vertical acceleration was obtained 0.423g from the basic model and 0.415g from the modified model.

  • This paper presents an experimental investigation into the progressive collapse behavior of composite steel-concrete frames under various column removal scenarios. This study involves testing two two-bay, two-story composite frames featuring CFST columns and profiled steel decking composite slabs. Two removal scenarios, involving the corner column and middle column, are examined. The paper reports on the overall and local failure modes, vertical force-deformation responses, and strain development observed during testing. Findings indicate that structural failure initiates due to fracture and local buckling of the steel beam. Moreover, the collapse resistance and ductility of the middle column removal scenario surpass those of the corner column removal scenario. Subsequent numerical analysis reveals the significant contribution of the composite slab to collapse resistance and capacity. Additionally, it is found that horizontal boundary conditions notably influence the collapse resistance in the middle column removal scenario only. Finally, the paper proposes a simplified calculation method for collapse resistance, which yields satisfactory predictions.

  • The underlying ground state of a railway plays a significant role in maintaining the integrity of the overlying concrete slab and ultimately supporting the train load. While effective nondestructive tests have been used to evaluate the rail track system, they can only be performed during non-operating time due to the stress wave generated by active sources. In this study, finite element numerical simulations are conducted to investigate the feasibility of detecting unfavorable substructure conditions by using a moving train load. First, a train load module is developed by converting the train load into time-variant equivalent forces. The moving forces based on the shape functions are applied at the nodes. A parametric study that takes into account the bonding state and the train class is then performed. All the synthetic signals obtained from numerical simulations are analyzed at the frequency domain using a Fast Fourier transform (FFT) and at the time-frequency domain using a Short-Time Fourier transform (STFT). The presence of a void condition amplifies the acceleration amplitude and the vibration response. This study confirms the feasibility of using a moving train load to systematically evaluate a rail track system.

  • This paper studies the finite element modeling and analytical parameters for the numerical evaluation of dynamic stiffness of large foundation for shipboard equipments such as marine diesel engine. For the purpose, numerical method and procedure to evaluate the dynamic stiffness are established based on the impact test method, which are applied for the dynamic stiffness evaluation of a real diesel generator foundation of ship. Numerical investigations compared with the measured data are carried out to evaluate the effects of modeling ranges of ship substructure, finite element sizes, lower support structures and damping coefficients. From the results, modeling and analytical parameters for proper evaluation of dynamic stiffness of large foundation of shipboard equipment are suggested.

  • In recent years, the stability, safety and comfort of trains has received increased attention. The mechanical characteristics and differential settlement of the foundation are the main problems studied in high-speed railway research. The mechanical characteristics and differential settlement of the foundation are greatly affected by the ground treatment. Additionally, the effects of train load and earthquakes have a great impact. The dynamic action of the train will increase the vibration acceleration of the foundation and increase the cumulative deformation, and the earthquake action will affect the stability of the substructure. Earthquakes have an important practical significance for the dynamic analysis of the railway operation stage; therefore, considering the impact of earthquakes on the railway substructure stability has engineering significance. In this paper, finite element model of the CFG (Cement Fly-ash Gravel) pile + cement-soil compacted pile about composite foundation is established, and manual numerical incentive method is selected as the simulation principle. The mechanical characteristics and differential settlement of CFG pile + cement-soil compacted pile about composite foundation under train load are studied. The results show: under the train load, the neutral point of the side friction about CFG pile is located at nearly 7/8 of the pile length; the vertical dynamic stress-time history curves of the cement-soil compacted pile, CFG pile and soil between piles are all regular serrated shape, the vertical dynamic stress of CFG pile changes greatly, but the vertical dynamic stress of cement-soil compacted pile and soil between piles does not change much; the vertical displacement of CFG pile, cement-soil compacted pile and soil between piles change very little.

  • In the study, three 1:3-scale unequal span steel-concrete composite substructures with top-seat angle and double web angle connection were designed and identified as specimens GTSDWA-0.6, GTSDWA-1.0, and GTSDWA-1.4. Pseudo-static tests and refined numerical model analysis were conducted to examine the anti-progressive collapse performance of a semi-rigid steel-concrete composite substructure. The results indicated that the failure modes of the three specimens revealed that the fracture occurred in the root of the long leg of the top/seat angle in tension at the connection. With increases in the span ratio of the left and right composite beams, the bearing capacities of the composite substructures decreased, and the corresponding displacement increased. With respect to GTSDWA-0.6 and GTSDWA-1.4, the resistance due to the short composite beam corresponded to 62% and 60%, respectively, and the total resistance provided by the short composite beam exceeded that of the long composite beam. With respect to GTSDWA-1.0, the resistance due to the left and right composite beams was similar. All three specimens underwent the flexure mechanism and flexure-axial mixed mechanism stages. They resisted the external load mainly via the flexure mechanism. Moreover, the addition of stiffeners on both sides of the top and seat angles is advantageous in terms of improving the collapse resistance and ductility of unequal span composite substructures.
