In this article, we present a numerical scheme for solving singularly perturbed (i.e. highest -order derivative term multiplied by small parameter) Burgers-Huxley equation with appropriate initial and boundary conditions. Most of the traditional methods fail to capture the effect of layer behavior when small parameter tends to zero. The presence of perturbation parameter and nonlinearity in the problem leads to severe difficulties in the solution approximation. To overcome such difficulties the present numerical scheme is constructed. In construction of the numerical scheme, the first step is the dicretization of the time variable using forward difference formula with constant step length. Then, the resulting non linear singularly perturbed semidiscrete problem is linearized using quasi-linearization process. Finally, differential quadrature method is used for space discretization. The error estimate and convergence of the numerical scheme is discussed. A set of numerical experiment is carried out in support of the developed scheme.

Viscous flow and heat transfer phenomena in an axisymmetric cylinder which models a diesel engine have been numerically studied. In order to search for a way to minimize numerical diffusion, the effectiveness and the appropriateness of two selected numerical schemes for convective terms in the governing equations have been tested. They are Linear Upwind Difference Scheme and Hybrid Scheme. Using a standard k-.epsilon. turbulence model, the calculation has been carried out basically up to 180.deg. of crank angle. As a result, it was shown from comparison with previous experimental data that Linear Upwind Difference Scheme is less influenced than Hybrid Scheme by the numerical diffusion and it was suggested that these effects of numerical diffusion can be more significant than those due to turbulence modeling.
A parameter uniform numerical scheme is proposed for solving singularly perturbed parabolic partial differential-difference convection-diffusion equations with a small delay and advance parameters in reaction terms and spatial variable. Taylor's series expansion is applied to approximate problems with the delay and advance terms. The resulting singularly perturbed parabolic convection-diffusion equation is solved by utilizing the implicit Euler method for the temporal discretization and finite difference method for the spatial discretization on a uniform mesh. The proposed numerical scheme is shown to be an ε-uniformly convergent accurate of the first order in time and second-order in space directions. The efficiency of the scheme is proved by some numerical experiments and by comparing the results with other results. It has been found that the proposed numerical scheme gives a more accurate approximate solution than some available numerical methods in the literature.

Numerical convergence and stability of TVD schemes have been applied in the FUNWAVE-TVD model were compared. The fourth order accurate MUSCL-TVD scheme using minmod limiter suggested by Yamamoto and Daiguji (1993), the fourth order accurate MUSCL-TVD scheme using van-Leer limiter suggested by Erduran et al. (2005) and the second order accurate MUSCL-TVD scheme using van-Leer limiter in Zhou et al. (2001) were compared. Comparisons of the numerical scheme were conducted with experimental data of Vincent and Briggs irregular wave experiments. In comparison with the fourth order accurate scheme using van-Leer limiter, the fourth order accurate scheme using minmod limiter is less dissipative but required lower CFL condition for stable numerical solution. On the other hand, the scheme using van-Leer limiter required smaller resolution spatial grid due to numerical dissipation, but relatively higher CFL condition can be used compared to the scheme using minmod limiter. In the breaking wave experiments which were conducted using high resolution spatial grid to reduce numerical dissipation, the characteristic of the schemes can be clearly observed. Numerical instabilities and blow-up of the numerical solutions were found in the irregular wave breaking simulation with the scheme using minmod limiter. However, the simulation can be completed with the scheme using van-Leer limiter, but required low CFL condition. Good agreements with the observed data were also observed in the results using van-Leer limiter.
We present a multi-stage Roe-type numerical scheme for a model of two-phase flows arisen from the modeling of deflagration-to-detonation transition in granular materials. The first stage in the construction of the scheme computes the volume fraction at every time step. The second stage deals with the nonconservative terms in the governing equations which produces states on both side of the contact wave at each node. In the third stage, a Roe matrix for the two-phase is used to apply on the states obtained from the second stage. This scheme is shown to capture stationary waves and preserves the positivity of the volume fractions. Finally, we present numerical tests which all indicate that the proposed scheme can give very good approximations to the exact solution.
Numerical calculation is applied to centrifugal pump at design condition by using commercial code STAR-CD and Tascflow, and these results are compared with experimental data at impeller outlet. Numerical analysis is also performed by changing turbulence model and discretization scheme at design condition using Tascflow. Turbulence model and discretization scheme used to Tascflow are k-$\epsilon$, k-$\omega$ turbulence model and upwind, modified linear profile scheme. W;th the same turbulence model and discretization scheme, two results of STAR-CD and Tascflow are very similar. But there is significant difference in numerical results near hub and shroud of impeller with different kinds of turbulent model and discretization scheme at design condition. And with k- $\omega$ turbulence model and modified linear profile scheme, it is showed that numerical results are very similar to experimental results of impeller outlet
We present a high-resolution van Leer-type numerical scheme for the isentropic model of fluid flows in a nozzle with variable cross-section. Basically, the scheme is an improvement of the Godunov-type scheme. The scheme is shown to be well-balanced, as it can capture exactly equilibrium states. Numerical tests are conducted which include comparisons between the van Leer-type scheme and the Godunov-type scheme. It is shown that the van Leer-type scheme achieves a very good accuracy for initial data belong to both supersonic and supersonic regions, and the exact solution eventually possesses a resonant phenomenon.

A two-dimensional stepped wall jet was numerically investigated by applying three different models : One is the standard k-.epsilon. and the other is the modified k-.epsilon. model which takes account of the streamline curvature effect by modifying the Reynolds shear stress and a source term in the dissipation equation, and a third is curvature dependent third-order correlation model. In order to test the influences of the numerical result, both the upwind scheme and the skew-upwind scheme were sued for the computations. By comparing the numerical results with available experiments, it was found that the modified k-.epsilon. model gives best overall prediction accuracy only when the numerical diffusion is eliminated by using the skew-upwind scheme. The numerical scheme was found to have more pronounced effect on the accuracy of the turbulence computation than the turbulence models.

Implicit numerical scheme using fractional step method and FCT is used to improve the computational efficiency of WAM. Square wave test and simulation of typhoon generated waves are conducted to verify the numerical scheme. The applied scheme shows much less numerical diffusion and due to the implicit character of the scheme much larger time steps can be used without numerical instability. For typhoon MAEMI, comparison between the numerical results and the measured data shows good agreement.
In this paper, a numerical scheme is introduced to solve the Cauchy problem for one-dimensional hyperbolic equations. The mesh points of the proposed scheme are distributed along characteristics so that the solution on the stencil can be easily and accurately computed. This is very important in reducing errors of the scheme because many numerical errors are generated when the solution is estimated over grid points. In addition, when characteristics intersect, the proposed scheme combines corresponding grid points into one and assigns new characteristic to the point in order to improve computational efficiency. Numerical experiments on the inviscid Burgers' equation have been presented.
