During the electromyographic evaluation for the diagnosis of neuropathy, presence for site of lesion could be predicted by a detection of denervation potentials such as fibrillation potentials or positive sharp waves in a group of muscles. Unfortunately, since denervation potentials are distinguished by examiner's experience, it is possible to make mistake identifying endplate spikes as a denervation potential. The aim of the study was to extract parameters to make an algorithm for quantitative distinction between denervation potentials and endplate spikes. It will help to minimize the examiner's bias and to localize the site of lesion thus increase the reliability on EMG diagnosis. There types of signals, endplate spike, fibrillation potential and positive sharp wave were obtained from the EDB(extensor digitorum brevis) muscle using then neuropathic patients. Eight parameters such as duration, area, slope, peak-to-peak amplitude, positive peak negative peak amplitude, ratio of positive to negative peak amplitude, and number of phase were extracted and compared. As a results, peak-to-peak amplitude, positive peak amplitude, ratio of positive to negative peak amplitude showed statistically significant differences between endplate spikes and denervation potentials. It was concluded that those parameters could be used to establish an algorithm which will improve the accuracies in automated quantitative EMG diagnosis.
Carex brevispicula (Cyperaceae) is endemic to Korea and is characterized by constricted achenes, short lateral spikes, and awned staminate and pistillate scales. The species classified in sect. Mitratae occurs throughout South Korea, perennating on mountains and/or rocky slopes under half shadow conditions. Meiotic chromosomes of the species were examined in this study, in which 33 meiotic cells from seven populations were found to be less than 2 ㎛ long with non-constricted chromosomes (n = 34II). The stable chromosome number may be related to the narrow geographical distribution and/or distinct achene morphology. Further investigations of the distribution, morphological character variation, and chromosome characteristics should be conducted with closely related taxa to understand the derivation of the species and its endemism in Korea.

The purpose of this study was to select the wheat varieties, among 8 domestic cultivates, that are suitable, for use as grain feed at paddy fields in the Honam region. The seeds of wheat were sown and harvested in Wanju County. Among the wheat varieties, "Jojoong" was the earliest for its heading date on April 15, and it showed the earliest day for the maturing date on May 24. The heading date of "Baegjong" was the same as that for "Keumkang" on April 18, and the maturing date was one day later than that for "Keumkang" on May 29. But there was no significant difference of heading and maturing dates among the 8 wheat varieties. The lowest number of spikes/㎡ was 513/㎡ of "Goso", and the highest number of spikes/㎡ was 974/㎡ of "Chongwoo". The spikes/㎡ and yield of "Baegjon" was 542kg/10a and it was the highest yielding variety among the 8 wheat varieties. The chemical compositions of DM (dry matter) and CP (crude protein) on rumen digestibility were not significantly different among the 8 wheat varieties. Furthermore, rumen digestibility of DM and CP, and the nutrients value were slightly higher than those of corn. The domestic 8 wheat varieties for grain feed, with their high nutrient qualities, could eventually replace imported grain feed and wheat grain feed. These 8 varieties are cost-effective feed and paddy field fodder for livestock farmers.

This paper proposed a random sigma-delta modulator(RSDM), which is constructed by a 1st order sigma-delta modulator(SDM) and a simple structured random binary generator(RBG). The 1st order SDM produces a switching pulse waveform which has the same low-frequency component as the reference input, while the RBG spreads the distribution of the number of sampling per switching cycle, and thus disperses the spectrum spikes in the output. The relationship between the harmonic spectra and the number of sampling per switching cycle is studied through computer simulations, and the frequency spectra of the RSDM are confirmed in an experimental setup.
To observe the effects of temperature and photoperiod on the growth and yield of winter wheat (Triticum aestivum, L) eight varieties including Chang Kwang were tested at various treatments like longday-high temperature (24hrs-20\circ), shortdayhigh temperature (12hrs-20\circ), longday-low temperature (24hrs-14\circ) and shortday-low temperature (12hrs-14\circ). Among the traits measured, days to heading, plant height, spike length, number of spikes per hill and grain yield per hill were generally decreased at high temperature and long day treatment and increased at low temperature and shortday condition. Number of grains per spike was decreased at low temperature and short day condition while increased at longday and high temperature conditions. Grain weight was decreased significantly at high temperature and shortday while increased at low temperature and longday treatment.
In order for Paldanghomil (winter rye) to be investigated if its grain yield is able to be produced after clipping just before winter season for forage utilization this experiment was carried out under the four sowing dates of four locations in Korea (Chunchon, Suwon, Hwasung and Chungju). In rye clipping plot earlier sowing showed taller plant height, more number of tillers/㎡ and higher forage yield before winter season, indicating the highest forage yield (1803 kg/10a) in Chunchon by sowing of September II. Forage yield of rye before winter season was mainly influenced by plant height and number of tillers/㎡, showing more effect of plant height. Rye plants were more or less affected on winter damages, late heading and short culm by clipping before winter season. Analysis of variance indicated that only number of spikes/㎡ among grain yield components showed the high significance according to the clipping method, and that there showed little variation for other yield components due to the sowing date and clipping method. There showed more grain yield in non-clipping rather than that of clipping plot, indicating the difference of 46kg/10a. This was resulted from short culm and severe winter damages caused by clipping before winter season. Of the grain yield components, number of spikes/㎡ was greatly influenced for grain yield by analysis of stepwise regression. Therefore, grain yield of rye was able to produce after forage utilization before winter season due to the appropriate crop and soil managements, by resulting from the little variation in grain yield between clipping or non-clipping plots and from the higher grain yield by the early sowing.
For successful visual perception by visual prosthesis using electrical stimulation, it is essential to develop an effective stimulation strategy based on understanding of retinal ganglion cell (RGC) responses to electrical stimulation. We studied RGC responses to repetitive electrical stimulation pulses to develop a stimulation strategy using stimulation pulse frequency modulation. Retinal patches of photoreceptor-degenerated retinas from rd1 mice were attached to a planar multi-electrode array (MEA) and RGC spike trains responding to electrical stimulation pulse trains with various pulse frequencies were observed. RGC responses were strongly dependent on inter-pulse interval when it was varied from 500 to 10 ms. Although the evoked spikes were suppressed with increasing pulse rate, the number of evoked spikes were >60% of the maximal responses when the inter-pulse intervals exceeded 100 ms. Based on this, we investigated the modulation of evoked RGC firing rates while increasing the pulse frequency from 1 to 10 pulses per second (or Hz) to deduce the optimal pulse frequency range for modulation of RGC response strength. RGC response strength monotonically and linearly increased within the stimulation frequency of 1~9 Hz. The results suggest that the evoked neural activities of RGCs in degenerated retina can be reliably controlled by pulse frequency modulation, and may be used as a stimulation strategy for visual neural prosthesis.
This experiment was carried out to investigate the occurrence of tiller and its proportion to grain yield under 5 different plant densities. Plant density 5 x 5cm was more favorable for increasing the number of spikes per unit area, where leads to improve grain yield. Effective tillers showed only main stem, M$_1$-axil and M$_2$-axil, indication more effective tillers in M$_1$ rather than main stem. Every tillers held at least 6 leaves to bear spikes, indicating that main stem has 12 -13 leaves. Leaves attached on main stem M$\sub$0/ and M$_1$ were very important as main source of photosynthesis, especially under more compart plant densities while leaves of M$_1$ occupied 66.8% in a plant. The proportion of grain yield of each tiller to total grain yield per plant was high in main stem under conpact plant density, in M$_1$ stems under less compact plant density, and in M$_2$ -stems under wide plant density, indicating same result on multiple regression analysis.
Differing in water conditions, the dry matter weight per plant was highest at 0 cm flooding depth, and was decreased at above 2 cm flooding depths. The shoot and spikes per pot developed best at flooding depths of 0 and 2 cm, but worst at -5cm or above 4cm flooding depths. The dry matter weight of shoots was linearly increased, but the weight of roots was sharply decreased according to high temperature after flower initation. The shoots and spikes per pot developed more effectively at 25$^{\circ}C$ than at 35 or 15$^{\circ}C$. The number of shoot and spike per pot were decreased according to higher shading. The effects of shading of 25-45% were not significantly small. The natural white and yellow spectra were the most effective to increase dry matter weight, shoots and spikes per pot. The dry matter weights of shoot and root per plant were not significantly different among at: 50 and 75% clay. The number of shoots were best and continuously increased at 75% clay, and the increments at 0 and 100% clays showed the lag period at early stage. The pattern of spikes was similar to shoots with less difference in various clay composition. The dry matter weight per plant in paddy field and upland field was basically similar. The numbers of shoot and spike were increased in response to increased fertilizer levels up to 20Kg per 10a of each component.
To cope with increasing importance of water stress in food crop production, some physiological characteristics, their cultivar-differences and grain yield of winter barley cultivars in response to water stress during reproductive stages were studied employing three covered-barley cultivars, Milyang 12, Durubori, and Olbori, one naked-barley cultivar, Baegdong, and one two-row malting-barley cultivar, Hyangmaeg. The barley grown in pot-soil was conditioned for 10 days under water stress, varying the time of water stress : 20 days before heading, 10 days before heading and the time of heading. The decrease in growth due to water stress varied greatly with the cultivars and time of water stress. The greatest injury occurred when water stress was imposed for 10 days from 10 days before heading : the culm length of water-stressed plants have shown reduced by 85∼98% of the non-stressed; the number of spikes per plant by 52∼83%; the number of grains per spike by 71∼86%; 1,000-grain weight by 80∼84%; yield per pot by 60∼94%. The number of spikes per plant as one of yield components was most sensitively affected. As a whole, the drought resistance of cultivars was high in the order of Olbori> Milyang 12 and Durubori> Hyangmaeg>Baegdong. On rewatering the plants after termination of the water stress treatment the recovery rate of free proline content and relative turgidity of flag leaf were higher in 3 covered-barley cultivars, and lower in cultivars Baegdong and Hyangmaeg.
